Summary

The Asus TUF Gaming VG259QM5A is a 24.5-inch 1080p Fast IPS monitor running at 240Hz (overclockable) that has earned a strong reputation as a budget-friendly competitive gaming display. Reddit sentiment is largely positive, with users praising its motion clarity, bright panel, and the rare combination of ELMB and G-Sync compatibility at this price point. It's primarily aimed at competitive FPS players who prioritize frame rate and response time over pixel density or ergonomic flexibility. The main recurring criticism is the stand — it offers only tilt and swivel with no height adjustment and no pivot, which is a notable limitation for a modern monitor. Overall, users consistently recommend it as a solid value pick for 1080p competitive gaming.

Pros

  • 240Hz panel with G-Sync Compatible and FreeSync Premium support — users can run both ELMB and G-Sync simultaneously, a rare feature at this price tier
  • Fast IPS panel with 0.3ms response time delivers excellent motion clarity with zero noticeable ghosting at default overdrive settings
  • Bright panel with 99% sRGB coverage — significantly more colorful than older TN alternatives, making it viable for both gaming and productivity use
  • Competitive FPS performance praised by high-ranked Valorant and CS2 players; enemies are easy to distinguish in-game
  • Strong value at its typical $129–$169 price range — users describe it as a no-brainer for 1080p 240Hz
  • Reported panel quality is consistently good out of the box — users mention no dead pixels, no significant backlight bleed issues

Cons

  • Stand is very limited — only tilt and swivel, no height adjustment and no portrait/pivot mode, requiring a monitor arm for proper ergonomics
  • 1080p at 24.5" is a divisive choice in 2025 — buyers stepping up from 1440p or considering future-proofing may find the resolution underwhelming
  • Overclock headroom is modest — the panel is rated 240Hz natively with no confirmed stable OC to 300Hz unlike some sibling models
  • Limited long-term Reddit data — the monitor is relatively new and early community threads have low engagement, making reliability trends hard to fully assess
  • Not ideal for content creation or color-critical work despite decent sRGB coverage — Fast IPS panels at this tier sacrifice color accuracy for speed
  • A DOA power-on issue was reported by at least one user, suggesting QC isn't perfect — worth buying from a retailer with easy returns

ELMB + G-Sync Together? Apparently Yes

One of the most-cited positives on Reddit is the ability to enable both ELMB and G-Sync simultaneously — something users say is uncommon at this price. The brightness drop is reportedly minimal compared to other panels, making it a practical option rather than a spec-sheet gimmick.

Great Panel, Frustrating Stand

The near-universal complaint across threads is the stand: no height adjustment, no pivot, just tilt and swivel. Multiple users say their first purchase after the monitor was a monitor arm or riser. At $129–$169, it's not a dealbreaker, but it's a recurring annoyance worth budgeting for.

High-Rank Competitive Players Are Using This Daily

Several Immortal+ Valorant and high-Premier CS2 players have specifically called out this monitor as their daily driver. For a budget TUF panel, that's a meaningful endorsement — and it lines up with the motion performance specs that make it competitive at this level.

After using this monitor I can 100% say especially for this price that I recommend it even at its regular price of $200. Monitor feels very responsive and fluid. Have had no issues with it. Running it on fps mode with color temp set to user mode with Red green and blue maxed out at 100. I can clearly tell the enemies apart from the world itself in the games I played being Fortnite, Valorant, and cs2.

I stayed with 1080p since I didn't want to make the GTX 1650 struggle with 1440p or 4K on my 4 year old Acer Nitro 5. I'd much rather have the FPS than a sharper image. So far I'm really impressed with it. Since the VG259QM is an IPS monitor the difference is night and day compared to TN panels!

Love it. Perfect panel. No dead/stuck pixels. No issues. Great little panel, gets very bright and is way more colorful than I thought it would be. Great motion handling. You can layer on top of each other ELMB and Gsync at the same time, a rare feature down at this price point, altho you do lose a little bit of brightness when you do but much less than I've seen on other panels. Or you can run Gsync by itself or ELMB by itself. I get a consistent 240 hz with zero ghosting.

If a 24" 1080p is your jam, there's no way you can do better than $119 on this one. Plus it's new so it should have at least a year of factory warranty and if you try it out and don't like it, send it back! I've spent more on a pair of jeans, this is a no-brainer.

As far as ergonomics go, it is VERY limited at this price point, there is no 90-degree pivot and not even a height adjustment. It comes with a small fixed stand that you install with screws and all it does is give you some tilt and some swivel but NO height adjustment and NO pivot.

Between these two, the vg259qm5a has the faster panel - 280hz vs 180hz on the msi. Asus also uses a newer fast-ips implementation. The mag 245f x24 has better contrast ratio usually but slower response times. If you play competitive fps, the asus is the play. Both are solid 1080p options though. Just keep in mind the asus has less adjustable stand if that matters to you. I'd lean asus personally for the motion clarity.

I have been using an excellent monitor for 3-4 years, it satisfies me with everything, it is a complete price performance product, it is 280 hz for its price, on top of its response times etc. it feels very good, single colors are also good in my opinion, in general, it is a complete home user monitor that can be bought at this price, I use it both competitively and for movies / series.

I just bought the 240hz vg259qm5a from asus and it's a great bang for buck. Motion performance is great for fps titles.

I went for the Lenovo one eventually because that was in stock, and it was around $50 cheaper at that time. The colors are decent on the Lenovo. I mean you can't expect some top-tier monitor at that price range, but it's pretty much similar. The 320hz is kinda nice if you can hit the frames.

Have you tried connecting it to all different ports of the monitor? Tried going in the menu of the monitor and look for the setting to select which display output you want to use? (Set it to display port 1/2, hdmi port1/2, etc...)

Thank you for the review. How do you like it? Is there any problems like noticeable ghosting or excessive bleeding or horizontal lines or dead pixels or is it good?
