Summary

The Dell E2314H is a budget 23-inch 1080p monitor that Reddit users mostly pick up secondhand or as part of multi-monitor setups. Sentiment is generally positive for its price tier, with users appreciating its sturdy stand and solid build quality for an entry-level office display. The lack of HDMI is the most commonly raised complaint, though the presence of DisplayPort and DVI-D makes it workable for most desktop setups. It's primarily recommended for budget battlestations, secondary screens, or anyone who just needs a reliable 1080p panel without spending much.

Pros

  • Excellent value for multi-monitor setups — users have picked up units for as low as $20 each on the used market
  • Ergonomic stand with 90-degree swivel and height adjustment, rare for budget monitors in its class
  • Includes DisplayPort and DVI-D inputs, giving enough flexibility for dual/triple monitor configurations without an HDMI adapter
  • Solid build quality and consistent panel performance reported across multiple ownership experiences
  • 1920x1080 native resolution with no known color or backlight uniformity complaints at this price point

Cons

  • No HDMI port — the most frequently cited limitation, requiring adapters for consoles or newer devices like the Steam Deck
  • DisplayPort-to-DVI passive cables can cause resolution issues (stuck at 1024x768) when used with certain docks like the Steam Deck dock
  • 60Hz refresh rate makes it unsuitable as a primary gaming monitor, especially when paired with high-refresh main displays
  • Mixed resolution scaling issues arise in multi-monitor setups when the primary display runs at a non-native resolution
  • Older panel technology with no HDR, no FreeSync, and no modern connectivity — tough to justify buying new when better options exist at similar prices

The No-HDMI Problem Is Real, But Manageable

Nearly every Reddit thread mentioning the E2314H brings up the missing HDMI port. Most users work around it with DVI or DisplayPort, but Steam Deck and MacBook users have reported frustrating compatibility issues with passive adapters.

A $20 Monitor That Holds Its Own in Triple Setups

Multiple Reddit users have built full triple-monitor battlestations around the E2314H, picking up units for as little as $20 each used. For anyone willing to buy secondhand, it punches well above its price.

The Stand Alone Makes It Worth Considering

Reddit users consistently call out the E2314H's height-adjustable, 90-degree swivel stand as a standout feature — something you rarely get on budget panels. Several users kept it specifically for the stand quality.

Each monitor was 20$ a pop, the middle one is E2314H and the side monitors are E2318H. Pretty damn happy with this setup, very clean down there even though I have like 100 things to manage.

Way too many adapters. You're losing bitrate through every adapter, so you're not gonna get 1080p. Just use hdmi or display port straight from the dock.

I ended up getting three of them and have no complaints. Lack of HDMI is annoying but it comes with VGA, DVI, and displayport so I just used two DVI and displayport to hook them up to my card. The standard stand is really good since it swivels 90 degrees and goes up and down, but I'm putting them on a VESA mount soon.

Considering buying one of these myself at 129 CAD. Any pitfalls to this monitor? Seems lack of HDMI is the only thing people dislike in customer reviews.

I'm just going DisplayPort on Dock to the DVI input in the monitor. Nothing else in-between. The HDMI -> DVI adapter I use works for 1080p, but it might be an active adapter and I didn't realize it.

You're doing better than me. None of my DP adapters work at all with the dock to any port and they are active adapters.

I had the same issue and what fixed it was changing the scaling mode from monitor to gpu in the nvidia app. This only fixed a part of it, I then had to change the resolution in game via the nvidia app to fix it completely.

That happens with fullscreen games if the coordinates of the second monitor is a positive continuation of the first monitor. The pixels of the monitor is split up by Windows as a coordinate system.

Move your second display to the left on the nvidia control panel. At first it's weird having to swipe your mouse to the right to go to your second monitor on the left, but I got used to it and it solved the scaling issue.

You should get a cheap USB-C hub and plug power and HDMI into it, then get a USB-C to VGA adapter and plug it into the other port on your computer. That way you can connect the Dell E2314H without issues.

The monitor only has VGA and DVI-D dual link ports, which makes connecting it to a modern MacBook Pro a bit of a challenge since everything is USB-C now.

I recently used my previous primary monitor as my secondary monitor — that is a Dell E2314H with the display being 1920x1080 at 60hz. It works fine as a secondary display.
