Summary

The Gigabyte GS27QA is a 27-inch QHD IPS monitor running at 180Hz that Reddit has largely embraced as one of the better budget-friendly 1440p options available. Sentiment across threads skews positive, with users frequently calling it a solid buy at its typical $140-$200 price range. It attracts budget-conscious PC builders and PS5 gamers looking to step up from 1080p without breaking the bank. The panel is praised for accurate colors and clean motion out of the box, though the overdrive setting needs manual adjustment to avoid ghosting. A recurring complaint is the stand — it's not height-adjustable and some users even report difficulty tilting it, which pushes many toward a VESA arm purchase.

Pros

  • Widely considered one of the best-performing 1440p 180Hz IPS panels in its price tier, with users on r/buildapcsales and r/buildapcmonitors endorsing it over pricier alternatives like the Asus XG27ACS
  • Colors are accurate and vivid out of the box — multiple owners report being satisfied with image quality for both gaming and productivity use
  • Zero ghosting in real-world use when overdrive is set to 'Picture Quality' mode; the 'Speed' setting does introduce trailing but is not the default
  • AMD FreeSync with G-Sync compatibility means it works well with both Nvidia and AMD GPUs without needing proprietary hardware
  • Works decently with PS5 — users report a noticeable improvement over playing on a TV, particularly in FPS games, and the panel handles 120Hz console output without issue
  • 3-year warranty in some markets (notably Brazil and Canada), which users cite as a key differentiator over white-label or competing budget monitors with shorter coverage

Cons

  • Stand offers no height adjustment and reportedly difficult tilt — multiple users in r/gigabyte couldn't get the tilt mechanism to move without fearing damage, with one resorting to propping it up with a wooden block
  • 300 nits peak brightness is below average for the category; competing monitors like the MSI MAG 274QRFW or AOC Q27G3XMN offer more brightness and mini-LED backlighting at similar or only slightly higher prices
  • HDR marketing is misleading — it's labeled 'HDR Ready' but uses an 8-bit panel without FRC, meaning real HDR performance is essentially nonexistent
  • Can't ship to California or Minnesota due to state energy regulations, limiting availability for a chunk of US buyers
  • Shipping internationally adds significant cost — one user outside the US paid $90 in shipping on top of the monitor price, pushing total cost to around $265
  • Some QC concerns surface in Brazilian user reports, with a couple of users receiving defective units and citing slow or difficult warranty service in their region

The Overdrive Trap Nobody Warns You About

New owners frequently discover the GS27QA ships with overdrive on 'Speed' mode, which causes visible ghosting. Switching it to 'Picture Quality' eliminates the issue entirely — but Gigabyte buries this in settings without a clear heads-up in the manual.

A $140 Monitor Reddit Keeps Recommending Over $200+ Alternatives

Despite having a barebones stand and modest brightness, the GS27QA consistently outranks pricier competitors in community recommendations thanks to its strong panel performance and value proposition at the budget end of 1440p.

PS5 Owners Are Quietly Adopting This Monitor

While it's marketed as a PC gaming monitor, a growing number of PS5 users in Reddit threads report using the GS27QA as their console display — citing better responsiveness and sharpness compared to TVs, especially in fast-paced FPS titles.

Ticks all the boxes for a great monitor at a good price. Monitor with these specs in 2017 cost like 600+ dollars lol

60 -> 144hz big difference. 144 hz -> 180hz I highly doubt you'll notice the difference. I've had one RMA with Gigabyte for a GPU a few years ago. Wasn't the worst. They responded within 1 business day and I got it shipped out by the next day. Not sure how it is with their monitors.

Yeah this is a pretty good value for $140. Not a great stand though, so I recommend paying a few bucks for a VESA monitor arm or something (which is also useful for future monitors)

Can't ship to Minnesota either. FWIW I've been referred to this law for other monitor brands, could be CA has a similar law.

The jump from 60Hz to 144Hz is honestly insane and well worth the upgrade.

It's 1440p 165Hz IPS with 300 nits brightness. That alone makes this a solid price. But it seems like nothing special. Can't find reviews on this one, but the similar G27Q seems to do well on rtings, though with worthless backlight strobing.

I just got this monitor and it's definitely very good, it has accurate colors and whatnot and there aren't any issues with ghosting out of the box. However, there is a setting called "overdrive" that does add noticeable ghosting when on the "speed" setting, but if you change that to "picture quality" the ghosting goes away (it isn't on speed by default anyway).

Recomendo demais!

There's been a good few reports in the monitor world that the XG27ACS has had a panel swap since monitors unboxed initial reviews, so I would probably not consider paying the premium for it. The GS27QA is known to perform well already

I'm interested in this too for my PS5. Unfortunately it seems like no non-OLED monitors are good for 60hz anymore (what most PS5 games operate in), only some that are decent. From what I can see this is one of the decent ones.

It is only going to do 1440p in indy games and much older AAA games. Now, if her main use is going to be watching media then 1440p is a no brainer for image quality.

I had a G24f2 Model.. I replaced it over 4 times already because of the display line issues... The replacement process is very slow... It's been over 2 Months already since i gave my g24f2 monitor to the service center... Idk abt the gigabyte service centers in other countries but in India its trash...

At 299$ in my case, I can officially say Canada Computers reached more rock bottom with this sale. Their site mentions they have like 10+ of these Monitors in NEW condition at most locations, but most of them were actually Open Box. I actually had to find a specific location and ask someone to search a lot of Boxes to find a NEW one.

Same 1000:1 contrast similar brightness 300 vs 350 nits but the M27Q2 QD has quantum dots so if you care about colors get that one. 100% vs 150% sRBG. 180hz vs 200 not a big deal.

Not a bad gaming monitor for the price. 300 nits, middling ppi are the cons but like, for the price with RE. Solid deal. Probably wouldn't notice the cons if you are in a dim room.

I already had the game, sold it to someone online for like 60 bucks after buying the monitor. This thing is definitely a steal. Although the height is not adjustable, it's perfect for my wife's battle station.

Had an issue with a Gigabyte 3080 out of warranty. They did not RMA it, but they agreed to send me the replacement parts for free to do it myself (it was a loose PCIe connector). Fast communication and no issue at all.

Nope, gave up, since i got so few helpful comments. I dont wanna break the thing. I ended up placing a wooden corner piece under the stand to make it angled flat
