Summary

The LG UltraGear 24G411A-B is a budget-friendly 24-inch IPS gaming monitor aimed at casual gamers and office users who want a reliable 1080p display without spending a lot. Reddit sentiment is cautiously positive — most owners are satisfied for the price, praising the image quality, thin bezels, and clean aesthetics. However, a recurring pattern of backlight bleed, oversaturated colors out of the box, and signal dropout glitches when running at the overclocked 144Hz have surfaced in multiple threads. It's widely seen as a solid entry-level pick, particularly for those pairing it with mid-range or mobile GPUs like a 3060.

Pros

  • Strong IPS image quality for the price — multiple owners called it noticeably better than older budget LG models, with clean visuals and vibrant colors once calibrated
  • Thin bezels and minimal design that looks premium on a desk despite the budget price point
  • VESA mount compatible and G-Sync Compatible (FreeSync works with Nvidia cards), making it versatile for both AMD and Nvidia builds
  • Acceptable for PS5, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch users who are already playing at 1080p — a good match for console gaming on a budget
  • Available under $100 during deals, making the IPS + 144Hz combo one of the best value propositions in the 24-inch budget segment
  • Works well as a secondary or LAN-party monitor — a number of users specifically bought multiple units for this purpose

Cons

  • 144Hz requires overclocking via monitor settings — it ships at a lower refresh rate by default, and some users get stuck at 120Hz without manually enabling OC mode through Windows Advanced Display settings
  • Signal dropout and screen flickering reported by multiple owners when running the overclocked 144Hz mode, sometimes requiring FreeSync to be disabled entirely as a workaround
  • Colors are oversaturated and poorly calibrated out of the box according to several users, with some reporting eye strain from the default settings
  • Backlight bleed is a known quality control issue — at least one unit was returned due to noticeable bleed, and others report it as a lottery
  • Stand offers only tilt adjustment with no height or swivel options, which is a consistent frustration for ergonomics-conscious buyers
  • At 24 inches and 1080p, pixel density is fine, but competing monitors like the Xiaomi G24i offer 200Hz with better out-of-box color accuracy at a comparable or slightly higher price

The 144Hz Overclock Is a Gamble

Multiple Reddit users report signal drops, black screens, and static when pushing the monitor to its advertised 144Hz — a mode that requires manual activation and comes with stability trade-offs that LG doesn't advertise upfront.

Under $100 IPS Gaming: Is This the Sweet Spot?

For budget builders pairing it with a mid-range mobile GPU or a console, the 24G411A-B delivers genuine IPS quality at a price where TN panels used to dominate. It's not perfect, but the competition at this price isn't either.

Eye Strain Complaints Pile Up From Casual Users

A surprising number of non-enthusiast buyers — people using it for office work and casual gaming — report eye strain tied to oversaturated colors and poor brightness calibration, suggesting the default profile needs adjustment right out of the box.

Price is good, but 1080p at 27" ain't the move.

Any thoughts on this monitor from someone that owns it? Just looking to game at 1080 144hz.

I've owned the 27in for about a year, also bought at Costco — love it. I think 24in is actually the ideal size for 1080p. The base took up a fair bit of desk space and had a slight wobble.

1080p, 27in fyi — just a heads up for anyone considering this size.

These IPS 1080p 144hz monitors have been floating around the $120 range for the past few months. Doesn't look like a bad deal if you're in for a monitor though.

It's less about resolution and more about pixel density. I find 1080p at 27 inch to look pixelated, but 1080p at around 24 inches looks good.

They charge you $11 for not being a member, btw.

I have the 27 inch version of this model and it's great. No complaints so far.

If you don't care for 4K or good HDR then this'll be great for PS5, especially for 120 fps games like COD.

High refresh IPS — nice. VESA holes — very nice. External power brick though — ugh.

I picked this up from Best Buy and had it for about a month. The one I received had very poor IPS glow where the screen had this golden glow to it at the slightest angle. Also the backlight uniformity was really bad — the left side of the screen was brighter in dark screens. I returned it.

Once you tried 144hz, you don't want to go back to 60hz.

I have a 1060 too, but even the general desktop/browsing experience at 144Hz was worth it. I just slid the old 60Hz monitor over and ascended to dual monitor setup.

LG panels are nothing to scoff at, this is a great deal for their up to date lineup and IPS.

I just received that monitor today and from a few tests, the picture quality is awesome for the price, but I think my unit has some backlight bleed that is somewhat noticeable.

I have the same monitor and I love it, I have no issues and the display is definitely better than the previous models like the 24GS60F-B.

Do you think its worth double the cost though? 144hz to 180hz isn't that crazy of a difference especially since I'm not gonna be playing any esports fps games. Plus I only have a 3060 6gb mobile so I might not get past that.

I have this exact one and I can't seem to get it to use 144hz, it's stuck at 120hz (119.98hz).

For this price, this is a great way to try a 144hz IPS monitor with minimal risk.

You can bring your LG monitor to an accredited service center for servicing — that's a big advantage over MSI where you have to let the shop handle returns.

LG hasn't failed me before and I hope this monitor keeps that streak alive.

I have this monitor, very nice design really thin bezels looks really great on the desk. But for some reason the colors are very poorly calibrated, too oversaturated and strain my eyes.

Bought it on December 1st, but experienced an issue with the display cutting out for a few seconds then coming back on every day or two. I tried doing some troubleshooting like messing with the monitor/Windows settings and changing power outlets, but I just decided to bring it back to Staples for a swap.

I just bought this and got on this thread looking for help — when watching Netflix, the infamous Netflix subtitles are not as bright white as they used to be on my old monitor which was about 10 years old.

I am experiencing the same signal issue. It goes black for a second or so. It also happens that it gets static for a millisecond sometimes. Something that made it even less common was making sure that your color depth is at 8bpc and not at 10 or 12.

I just grabbed two to use for a home office and gaming setup. I like them, definitely not as sharp as my MacBook Air Retina display but they work just fine.

I got two of these, and have the same 120Hz issue. I'm not a super graphics snob, these monitors are great for me at the price point, but am curious why we can't reach the advertised refresh rate.

Currently using this monitor with my work laptop. I do play games sometimes like Pathfinder, COD, some RPGs and all. The overall experience is good, though could use height adjustment for me personally. Bought in India at 10k price, seems worth the price for me.

If your gaming setup is on a budget and you wanted to add a cheap upgrade, you can't do better than this for $90. 144hz IPS 27in. Just sit farther back.

I don't recommend any cheap LG monitor, they suck nowadays, especially the UltraGear series.

Between those two I'd lean toward the Xiaomi G24i for the extra $15. It usually has better color accuracy out of the box and a higher refresh rate. The LG is decent but often has more backlight bleed. I was comparing similar budget monitors last month and the Xiaomi panels tend to have better quality control.

It's a pretty good swap for 60hz. The only downside is the stand — that is something I wasn't a fan of. It wobbles when you type.

It most definitely will be solid for PS5. I own this monitor and you can set the PS5 to output 4K/60. The games ran beautifully and smooth. Highly recommend this monitor.

The problem seems to have come back a day after turning on the advertised 144hz overclock. It seems like this monitor doesn't like being pushed too far.

I pressed the button on the monitor to access its settings and set it to overclock mode to enable 144hz. I did so much running around buying the best HDMI cords and DisplayPort cables when it wasn't necessary.

No problems with overclock to 144Hz hooked up via DP to USB-C to my Lenovo Legion 5 with a i9-14900HX and RTX 4060.

250 nits is low though. If you can swing it financially, there's a better build with height adjust available.

I got the Xiaomi a week ago — for the price point at 200hz the color accuracy is decent. Hope this thing lasts.
