Summary

The LG UltraGear 27G610A-B is a budget 1440p IPS gaming monitor that's earned genuine praise from Reddit users who prioritize panel quality over premium pricing. Sentiment is largely positive, with most owners reporting minimal backlight bleed, solid colors, and clean build quality — especially impressive given the sub-$200 street price. It targets budget-conscious gamers upgrading from 1080p or older panels, and repeatedly comes out on top when users compare it head-to-head with competitors in the same tier. The main caveats are an awkward oversized power brick, mediocre HDR implementation, and a lack of professional reviews at launch — but neither complaint seems to deter buyers who've actually used it.

Pros

  • IPS panel quality is consistently praised for minimal IPS glow and well-controlled backlight bleed — multiple users report zero bleed on their units
  • 200Hz native refresh rate and 1ms GTG response time deliver smooth gameplay with no reported ghosting issues at rated specs
  • Fully ergonomic stand with height adjustment and pivot makes it stand out from similarly priced monitors with tilt-only stands
  • 400 nits brightness gives it an edge over competitors like the ASUS TUF VG27AQ5A (300 nits) in brighter environments
  • Comes in well under $200 USD at sale prices — users have picked it up for as low as $140–$170, making the IPS quality feel punching above its weight
  • DisplayPort 1.4 support allows full bandwidth for higher refresh rates, unlike older HDMI 1.2-based alternatives

Cons

  • Power brick is large and directly attached to the plug with a very short cord — a recurring complaint that affects cable management
  • HDR (DisplayHDR 400) is largely ineffective in practice; black bars glow gray during movies and dark scenes lose detail — one user returned it specifically for this reason
  • Color accuracy requires manual calibration out of the box — some users find the blue channel runs deeper than expected compared to reference screens
  • No RTINGS review at launch left early buyers flying blind on objective panel measurements, making purchase decisions harder to validate
  • HDMI port is 2.0, not 2.1 — limits console users to around 164Hz over HDMI, not the full 200Hz
  • A few users report chromatic aberration artifacts (red/blue halos on sharp edges) that may require driver or settings adjustments to resolve

Is the Backlight Bleed Lottery Worth It?

Reddit opinions are split — some units arrive with zero bleed, others with noticeable glow that worsens over time. The majority report good luck, but it's still a panel lottery with no RTINGS data to calibrate expectations.

Best Budget 1440p IPS Right Now — If You Skip HDR

Users consistently rank it above competing budget options from Acer and MSI at the same price point, but only if you treat HDR as a checkbox feature rather than a real selling point. For SDR gaming at 200Hz, the value case is hard to beat.

The Power Brick Is Weirdly Annoying for a Monitor This Good

Multiple owners across threads flag the same issue: the oversized power adapter plugs directly into the wall and the cord is barely long enough to reach a power strip. It's a minor complaint, but oddly consistent for a monitor that gets almost everything else right.

I have this monitor, since 2020, excellent quality, HDR support is questionable however. Weird to see it at half the price I paid for it back then.

HDR sucks and the power brick is directly attached to the plug. It's huge and takes up space. The power cord is extremely short as well. Still, it's a good monitor, though a bit outdated today.

I couldn't find any reviews, but seems great price for the specs.

I think at this price range, going with a reputable brand with a decent warranty is going to serve you well. The actual specs of the monitor are going to be limited by how cheap they can make it, thus the warranty is nice to have.

Purchased this monitor back in 2022 for $379.99 (pre-tax, etc.) and have used it as my main since then. No regrets but, as mentioned, HDR support is weak so I just opt not to use it at all. Also, a niggling issue is that the power supply cord is weirdly short and cumbersome. Despite that, I think you'd be hard pressed to do better at this price point if the specs suit you.

This LG monitor is several tiers above that Acer Nitro. A discerning eye would be dissatisfied with the latter in a side by side comparison.

So the excellent $400 dell monitor i bought 5 years ago is really good but only 165hz. I picked this monitor up the other day on sale for $169 because at that price i really needed to cure my curiosity. Fantastic monitor that I would argue is better in every way than this dell that i already love. Build feels slightly cheaper of course but was expected. No light bleed or dead pixels on my panel. I'd like to believe it is worth every bit of its list price going off of my initial time with it.

Decent monitor but yeah, that power cord is short as hell like others have mentioned. I have an adjustable desk so I just attached the surge protector underneath my desk so I could adjust the desk height without it getting yanked out.

I also remember paying double of that for a monitor with the same panel (legion y27). For 200$ you could only get around a 1080p @75hz TN monitor. Getting this panel for almost the same price is great imo.

I bought 2 to have on each side of my 42" LG C2 oled monitor/tv and am happy with them for the price. I'd spend more for a primary but I don't think the value can be beat for these. I'm replacing a 12 year old 23" dell 1080p and 10 year old dell S2716DG gsync 144hz 1440p monitor I originally paid $650 for. The LG viewing angle is a little less than the Dell S27 but head on color and contrast are much better.

Yes. I just got this monitor for like a week. I think it's a pretty good monitor for that price. I got it for $140.

I just got this monitor two days ago, have only played maybe 5 hours on it on my ps5 (not pro). I haven't noticed any issues and think it's amazing.

Okay so I was going to upload a picture of it but a picture is completely exaggerating it. In person it honestly looks like I see next to none, it's very minimal.

I bought this one for $170, tested and compared it with 2 similar products (ROG xg27acg, KTC 27m1). Pros: Slim and not too heavy for an IPS monitor. Great design. No backlight bleeding, IPS glow well controlled. Has deeper/clearer blacks. Cons: Power plug is too big and space consuming. The brightness too low even at 100. The blue color seems 'deeper' than other monitors (using Macbook Pro screen as standard).

I just got it.. it has zero back bleeding.. it's awesome.. there is one thing though - there is awful moire.. like on edges between white and black sharp edges there are red and blue halos which are painful for the eyes.. should I return it? or try to fix it with the settings?

I tried at least 3 monitors during this time. The KTC VA one and the MSI MAG from Costco x3. The panel on this LG 610A is fantastic, as in the quality is good. Very little IPS-Glow (which is a miracle) and doesn't have that excessive Parallax effect on the side (just a little) and the Black Stabilizer is solid.

210$ for a 27in 200hz 1440p monitor is pretty good.

I have a similar LG (27G640A-B), it's 300hz instead of 200hz, and have zero complaints. Minimal backlight bleed, no dead pixels, good color and brightness, no ghosting etc. I'd recommend the 610 based on my experiences.

I just recently got the LG UltraGear 27G610A-B and honestly, you can tell the panel quality itself is...well, quality. Very little color/glow bleed, the black stabilizer works, the colors seem decent at first inspection. The previous monitor I tried (that I compare it with) was an MSI MAG (300hz) from Costco, which sadly had insane IPS Glow Bleed.

I had the LG for 20 or so days and returned it. I couldn't get used to the colors, and the back bleed got worse in the 20 days. When watching a movie, the black bars were almost glowing and gray. At the same time, in darker scenes, it was like it was missing details, HDR made no difference and might as well not have it.

I used to have LG 27GL83A and idk which one's better but my eyes miss that one. I can't find it for reasonable price that's why I got this one right now.

LG seems to have good specs — 400 nit brightness, good refresh rate, it has 1.4 DP which allows for more bandwidth if you want higher refresh rate. Samsung is still pushing 180hz from a 1.2 older system — something to be aware of.

Been wondering the same. No reviews on Amazon but the specs look good and my friend's old ultragear looks amazing imo.

This was a great pickup 6 years ago, but today who's still buying this outdated crap in 2025 when affordable OLED is just around the corner.

I would get VA not IPS, because blacks look way better, has better contrast.

It has extremely poor contrast (735:1 according to rtings). It gets to a bit above 300 cd/m^2 brightness. Should be buying panels around the 400 cd/m^2 mark or greater. Out of the box colour calibration is questionable (way too blue). Luckily you can more or less fix this one with some calibration profiles and effort. I wouldn't buy this panel in 2025.
