Summary

The LG UltraGear 27GS93QE-B is a 27-inch QHD 240Hz WOLED gaming monitor that lands in a polarizing spot within the OLED community. Owners consistently praise its motion clarity, deep blacks, and fast response time, calling it a transformative upgrade from IPS panels. However, the heavy matte coating is the most debated aspect — some users barely notice it, while others feel it significantly dulls the OLED pop they expected, particularly when comparing it side by side with glossy OLED TVs. It's best suited for competitive gamers and first-time OLED adopters who game in brighter rooms and can tolerate text fringing inherent to the WOLED subpixel layout. As newer QD-OLED and Tandem OLED alternatives emerge at similar price points, this monitor's value proposition becomes harder to justify for buyers who prioritize image quality over price.

Pros

  • 240Hz at 0.03ms response time delivers a noticeably smoother experience — multiple owners coming from IPS panels describe the motion clarity as 'night and day' for fast-paced games
  • Deep blacks and OLED contrast impress in dark-room gaming, with owners praising the color accuracy even through the matte coating after proper calibration
  • Automatic pixel refresh runs in the background without interrupting use — a notable advantage over Asus OLEDs, which prompt users every 4 hours and require manual action
  • Functionally identical to the 27GS95QE-B at a lower price — the only meaningful difference is the absence of RGB lighting on the back, saving $50-$100 depending on the sale
  • HDMI 2.1 support makes it a dual-purpose monitor for PS5 and PC users, with confirmed 1440p console gaming capability
  • Strong discount availability — units have sold for $450-$495 USD during sales, making it one of the more accessible entry points into OLED gaming

Cons

  • Aggressive matte anti-glare coating visibly reduces perceived contrast and color vibrancy compared to glossy OLED panels — owners switching from glossy OLED TVs like the LG C2 report feeling underwhelmed
  • WOLED subpixel layout causes text fringing at 1440p, which is noticeably worse than QD-OLED alternatives like the AOC Q27G4ZD that offer cleaner text rendering at a lower price
  • Vertical banding on certain color palettes (especially uniform backgrounds like in Valorant) is a panel lottery issue — some units are unaffected, others require many pixel refreshes to improve
  • VRR flickering has been reported by multiple users even with VRR disabled; considered a broader OLED trait but still a real limitation for users sensitive to it
  • Audible fan noise from the back of the unit reported by at least one owner, present even when the monitor is off — a dealbreaker for quiet setups
  • Increasingly aging technology in 2025-2026 as Tandem OLED and QD-OLED panels at similar price points offer better brightness, subpixel layouts, and coatings

The Matte Coating Divides Owners More Than Any Other Feature

Across multiple Reddit threads, the matte anti-glare coating is the single most argued aspect of this monitor. Some owners barely notice it and love the glare control; others return it after comparing it to their glossy OLED TV and finding the 'pop' just isn't there. Your tolerance for matte will determine your satisfaction more than any spec sheet will.

Same Panel as the GS95, Minus the RGB Tax

Reddit has largely confirmed that the 27GS93QE-B and the 27GS95QE-B share the same OLED panel and specs — the price gap between them comes down to RGB lighting on the back of the 95. If you don't care about aesthetics, the 93QE offers the same performance at a meaningful discount.

First-Time OLED Owners Love It; Glossy OLED Veterans Don't

The pattern in community reviews is striking: users upgrading from IPS monitors are consistently blown away, while those coming from glossy OLED TVs or comparing it to QD-OLED panels are often disappointed. This monitor's sweet spot is the first-time OLED buyer who games in a bright room — not the enthusiast chasing maximum image fidelity.

I would get the AOC Q27G4ZD which is cheaper over this because QD-OLED 1440p subpixel layout has less noticeable text fringing than these older 1440p WOLED panels. I'd generally avoid these older WOLED unless you severely dislike some of the characteristic/cons of QD-OLED.

I'd have to disagree, I think 27 inch 1440p is perfect for a desk. I had a 34 inch ultra wide but I sold it, it just felt overwhelming to use for both games and desktop use. And anything over 27 inch just seems too damn big, at least for my desk setup.

I can promise you that the text fringing is noticeable on gen 2 woleds.

34 felt like a gimmick to me. The part your focused on isn't any bigger. You're not looking at the extended parts very often. Also some games just aren't optimized and they seemed zoomed in.

I checked LG and compared gs93 vs gs95 using their comparison feature and only difference I found was the pixel pitch and the RGB in the back. I wanna say g93 and g95 are the same panel and specs but 93 has no RGB whereas 95 does have it. Price difference at retail is exactly 100 bucks and I can see LG charging 100 bucks more just for RGB.

It's a great panel. Obviously it's matte, which ppl have a myriad of opinions on. Do a couple of pixel refreshes and update the firmware before you start tinkering.

This monitor is AMAZING! I tested the LG and the Asus side by side for several hours, and they are almost identical. However, I find the text is sharper on the LG, and the HDR is also better on this model. In the end, I returned the Asus and kept the LG. I even bought a second LG for my wife's PC. Nothing to complain about, excellent build quality and easy settings thanks to the remote control.

Matte monitors generally just look worse on oled compared to semi glossy and glossy. You kinda gotta either put up with the matte or block out some light.

One major difference between LG and Asus is that the LG OLEDs automatically perform the pixel refresh. Asus OLEDs will interrupt you with a prompt every ~4 hours to perform a refresh which can be annoying if you are in the middle of something.

I ordered the 93 today. Rtings says the GS95 has better performance, with substantially higher brightness in SDR and HDR. Additionally, it has better motion handling with less inverse ghosting, making the 27GS95QE-B the better choice. Also RGB in the back. However, I still think the GS93 is a sweet deal at $600.

With this specific panel, the resolution is actually the last thing you're paying for lol. $500 for this specific 1440p is a DEAL. Would beat out most 4k panels in everything but resolution.

It really annoys me that even trying to research before buying it, never knew about vertical banding. People really doesn't care regarding cons on OLED because "it's too pretty". Potential burn in, VRR flickering, vertical banding, and edge fringing are really worth it for just a panel that gives yeah, pure black and maybe more "colorful" images, but I'm not gonna be spending that much for those BIG downsides.

I've had some VRR issues (like all OLEDs), but personally, I have a powerful PC, so I simply disabled VRR on the monitor, and it's fine. Other than that, I have no issues at all with my LG monitors.

27GS93 is not semi glossy its heavy matte trust. I wouldn't consider that one in 2026.

The 27GS95QE is the same panel minus a remote and led lights in the back. Reviews for that model will apply to the model you are looking at.

It's definitely older. I wouldn't really call it a bad buy, but I'm not sure how good I'd classify it either. It really depends on what you were looking for. Gigabyte is releasing the first 27 inch Tandem OLED with a launch price of $499, and Alienware is releasing a 27 inch 1440p 280hz QD-OLED for $549 any time now.

The monitor is incredible to say the least. I was skeptical when I finally made the decision to go for it. But I am glad I did. I've never owned an OLED tv or monitor before and I was blown away at how good the colors were, deep blacks, and most importantly the response time. The motion clarity is leaps and bounds above the led ips panel I came from. It's a night and day difference and you can tell it.

I'm sending the one I bought back. Waiting for the xg27aqwmg like someone else recommended in the thread. After looking up the reviews, it's the best thing that will look like my C2.

Glossy or not, oled monitors cannot compete with the lg c series TVs in brighter content as of yet. That should change when the ASUS xg27aqwmg gets released later this year.

Even at $399 it wasn't worth it to me and I'd rather go for something with more reliable QC-wise and warranty-wise.

Got this monitor on sale for $482 around Christmas. Also my first oled monitor. So far its been really great. Deep blacks, great vibrant color, text clarity needed a bit of tweaking via monitors settings and windows to get it just right. Now I don't notice it at all. In game text clarity is no issue, just for viewing websites/documents etc.

Just got my GS93. Honestly, I'm satisfied and I feel good about it. 240hz is blazing fast, like if you play enough FPS you can tell the difference immediately. Picture is good, but not "fall of your seat" good. However, the contrast is solid and that creates harmony with the colors making them pop even considering the matte coating which btw does not create that dirty/smeared screen effect people talk about on my panel. Like at all. Monitor had no dead pixels and I was very happy about how thin it is.

The vertical banding thing is apparently normal to some extent, but is more common for WOLED with variance between units. It's supposedly possible to get a perfect panel, but you gotta play the panel lottery. In my 150 hours of using a WOLED ASUS it has gotten less noticeable the more pixel cleans I run. I tolerate it because it's only really visible in certain colors and is getting even less noticeable.

27GX704A-B all the way!! Glossy screen rocks. I had 27GS93QE-B (matte), now i have 32gx850a (true black glossy) and the difference in picture quality is abysmal.

I have the 27GS93QE-B, the only difference between it and the 27GS95QE-B is that the 27GS95QE-B comes with RGB lighting. The anti-glare coating isn't great but it helps a lot when you can't control lighting. I would choose glossy over anti-glare any day if my monitor was going to be in a light controlled environment.

A bigger concern than its age is that it has an aggressive matte coating. This makes legibility great in bright rooms but it reduces perceived contrast, which affects how the black levels look. If you're expecting it to look like your oled phone or oled tv, it's likely you'll be disappointed. If you're ok with that, it's otherwise a great panel.

I am very happy with this monitor. I think the biggest thing I've noticed in colorful games is how accurate and popping those colors feel compared to IPS. Also, 240Hz is insanely smooth when you can actually get those frames in games.

I've got a 27GS95QE-B and absolutely love it. For that price I'd definitely get the GS93...hell if I can get one for a similar price in the UK I may get one to replace my 27GR75Q-B which I use for a second monitor.

This makes so much more sense. If that's the case I'll definitely purchase it as it's about half the price of the 95. Thanks heaps.

Just keep in mind, as a new OLED user, it does take some configuration to really get things looking right in HDR. I would recommend looking up a settings guide video for it if you're not very familiar with monitor settings. Running the Windows HDR Calibration tool is also strongly advised if you're on Windows 11.

Like a step down in resolution when it comes to clarity. It's noticeable, and at first, was distracting, but I've gotten used to it after a few days. If it's a big deal I'd wait since LG is coming out with a WRGB subpixel layout that basically mitigates the issue.

I'm looking at this very model right now, and I'm very tempted to get it. Buuuuut, I don't know if my use case or rather, the viewing habits I have on my current monitor will be suitable for this OLED. I spend about 50% browsing, the other 50% gaming, admittedly, I'm terrified that my habits will make it burn in quick.

Best buy has a Black Friday deal on this machine. Been looking for an affordable monitor with an OLED display. For now this one checks every box. And for the prices I've seen this one's a steal.

The general consensus is that matte displays look worse than glossy. There's this grainy haze to it that just looks low quality relative to glossy.
