Summary

The MSI MAG 275F is a budget 27-inch 1080p gaming monitor that has earned a mostly positive reception on Reddit, particularly among gamers who prioritize high refresh rates over resolution. At its typical street price of $90–$140, users consistently praise the value-to-performance ratio, calling it a 'diamond in the rough' for competitive gaming. The main community debate centers on whether 1080p at 27 inches is acceptable — a significant portion of users recommend sticking to 24 inches for FHD, citing lower pixel density as a visible compromise. Default color settings are widely regarded as poor out of the box, with a noticeable yellowish tint that requires manual calibration. For competitive gamers on a tight budget, it delivers on the specs that matter most: smooth motion, zero tearing, and fast response.

Pros

  • Exceptional value at $90–$140 street price — 180Hz and 0.5ms response time at this price point is rarely matched by competing brands
  • Adaptive sync (both G-Sync compatible and FreeSync) eliminates screen tearing without requiring a premium GPU
  • Fast IPS panel means no VA-style black smearing or ghosting — setting response time to 'Fast' instead of 'Fastest' resolves the few ghosting complaints
  • Minimal input lag makes a noticeable difference in reaction-based games like Marvel Rivals, Tekken 8, and Tarkov according to owners
  • Slim bezels and a clean, understated design make it well-suited for multi-monitor setups
  • Sturdy, adjustable stand with solid build quality — users compare it favorably to pricier alternatives in terms of physical construction

Cons

  • Running 1080p at 27 inches results in a PPI of ~81 — roughly 33% lower pixel density than a 1440p panel at the same size, which is clearly visible to many users
  • Default color profile ships with a distracting yellowish tint; requires significant manual tuning in both monitor OSD and GPU control panel to look its best
  • No built-in speakers — users who expected audio output from a monitor at this price point were caught off guard
  • Panel quality control has been inconsistent — some users received units with dead pixels or stuck pixels on first or replacement orders
  • MSI's long-term monitor reliability is questioned by experienced users, with reports of panels failing around the 2-year mark on older MSI models
  • At similar or slightly higher prices, 1440p alternatives (like the Sealan 27" QHD 180Hz or KOORUI 27E1QA) offer meaningfully better resolution for the same use case

The Color Settings Problem Nobody Warns You About

The MAG 275F ships with a yellowish tint and poorly optimized default profiles that left multiple users frustrated. A community-created settings guide on r/Monitors has become essential reading, with hundreds of users reporting dramatic improvements after manual calibration — suggesting MSI's out-of-box experience doesn't reflect what the panel is actually capable of.

Is 1080p at 27 Inches Really Worth It?

The most heated debate in MAG 275F threads isn't about performance — it's about pixel density. Many Redditors argue 27 inches is simply too large for FHD, recommending 24-inch panels for the same resolution. Owners who came from laptops or weaker GPUs that can't drive 1440p tend to be satisfied, while enthusiasts consistently push back on the value versus stepping up to a QHD panel.

Console Gamers Are Quietly Adopting This Monitor

Several threads reveal Xbox Series X and PS5 owners buying the MAG 275F and 275QF as budget console monitors, drawn by adaptive sync and high refresh rate support. The monitor accepts 1440p signals via DisplayPort, and some users report running custom 4K resolutions on Nvidia GPUs — a niche but notable use case that keeps coming up across multiple subreddits.

I recently discovered that the monitor I bought last week doesn't come with well-optimized settings or profiles, despite its potential. The default ready-to-use profiles are far from ideal, and I noticed an annoying yellowish tint on the screen, whether HDR was turned on or off.

Note that shipping is extremely slow; I ended up asking Best Buy to price match and got 5% extra with Paypal BB cashback.

This is good pricing, $150-170 is good pricing for a monitor with these specs. Prime day is very unlikely to bring 1440p 144+ IPS monitors down further

Good luck with those protective stickers, they left visible marks on my monitor, spent like an hour of intensive cleaning to rub them off and still they are visible at certain angles

It will accept an HDR10 signal, but has no VESA certification and no real ability to display HDR properly.

I did purchase few days ago. Very good. 0 dead pixels, no backlight bleed. Colors are good. After trying so many different RGB color settings, this came out best for me: R: 45 G: 45 B: 97

Keep in mind that Dell using different type of panels on G2724D, I don't know if it's just me but I didn't like colors of it.

Personally not a fan of running 1080p at 27 inch. For 1080p I only go up to 24 inch, everything above I would get 1440p. Still a nice monitor and if the pixel density doesn't bother you then rock it.

Solid monitor - 27", 180Hz, 0.5ms, and the price is really good. But there's also the Sealan 27" QHD 180Hz, which gives you 2K resolution, HDR10, and 99% sRGB, for around the same price.

I picked up two of the g2724d and also have the msi qpf from last years deal and the qpf is better in a side by side comparison than the dell panels I received.

I was looking at these earlier in the year on amazon and the amount of light bleed photos in the reviews instantly put me off.

Just wanna say, I followed all these instructions, instantly it looks a lot better. Text inst hard to read, the screen doesn't look like my eyes are out of focus. I played a round of CS2 and hadn't realised how green and yellow some things actually are, or how colourful the buy menus can be.

Late reply but, if you notice ghosting then you can change the Response Time setting to Fast instead of Fastest. Cause trouble for me in TLoU2 and AC Shadows. Finally figured out when playing AC Shadows lol

Really depends if you have a great computer or not. Maybe in games like counter strike or valorant you might use the full 300hz. But if youre playing AAA game I dont think youll be able to get 300 frames so you won't notice much if any difference. The monitor seems fine. Not top of the line.

i had to send my 1st order back since it had about 50 pixels that were only showing red green or blue. also the 2nd one that they sent me has 3 dead pixels and also about 10 to 20 pixels stuck on red or blue or green. i have the older gen 274qpf and gotta say the panel and the stand on that one has a better quality.

The MAG274QRF is extremely good. The only benefit of the 275QF is 165hz vs 180hz (nothing). Upgrade to something much better if you're looking to.

It's a great monitor. I've got the white version on my desk and I've got no complaints. As for IPS glow, I'm not staring at dark screens all day, so it's not really an issue for me. Every panel type has its pros and cons anyway — OLED has burn-in concerns, IPS has glow, and VA panels have those bad viewing angles.

Bought and returned last year, owned for over 2 weeks, it had terrible light bleed around the edges. I purchased the 40" monitor from MSI, for 280$ on Black Friday.

I just purchased this monitor 3 days ago. Absolutely love it. It's paired with a 9800x3d and 5080. As long as your rig can push 300fps then it's forsure worth it

I daily drive this, its a great monitor, and as long as you don't look for perfect blacks and just want a decent responsive monitor, go for it. My wife has an Asus strix OLED and even next to hers I'm content and happy.

Don't buy MSI monitors. Idk what panels or models are affected, but since years, the panels start to fail after ~2 years. I'm a massive MSI fan, but I'll never buy a monitor from them again. I saw at least 30+ confirmed cases of those panel/PSU issues, and mine broke down, too, after barely 2 years, and according to MSI, can't be repaired.

I bought the 274UPF 16 months ago. The panel went out. It was going to cost over $200 to ship it and insure the package for RMA. I won't buy MSI monitors again.

I just bought 3 of them for my triple monitor setup. I upgraded from an Alienware PC with an i7/2080 Super to a Lenovo with a 285k/5090 RTX. I originally had triple Dell Ultrasharps at 1080p/60hz. So far the upgrade is great. You really can tell the difference between normal office work and gaming. Everything just seems smoother.
