Summary

The MSI MAG 275QF is a 27-inch 1440p 180Hz IPS monitor that punches well above its price point, drawing strong praise from budget-conscious PC gamers on Reddit. Most owners report a smooth, responsive gaming experience out of the box, with competitive pricing that made it a frequent deal-thread favorite. The main caveat is that default color settings are noticeably off — a yellowish tint and poor factory calibration are widely reported, though the community has developed popular fix guides. It's genuinely excellent for FPS and AAA gaming on PC, but Mac users consistently report eye strain issues tied to the low PPI, and brightness falls short at just 300 nits.

Pros

  • 180Hz refresh rate at 1440p for under $160 makes this one of the best value QHD monitors available — multiple users confirmed $150-170 is the floor for this spec tier
  • 0.5ms GtG response time with IPS panel delivers clean motion in fast-paced FPS titles; ghosting is mostly a non-issue at 'Fast' response setting
  • G-Sync and FreeSync compatible, works with both Nvidia and AMD GPUs without issues
  • Solid adjustable stand, VESA mount support, and MSI Gaming OSD app for on-screen tuning from desktop
  • Owners report it holds up well over months of daily use — multiple long-term owners confirmed zero panel issues after 3-6+ months
  • Includes a DisplayPort cable in the box, which supports QHD at the full 180Hz

Cons

  • Factory color calibration is poor — yellowish tint out of the box is a near-universal complaint requiring manual RGB and contrast adjustments to fix
  • 300 nits peak brightness is low for the category; users noticed it appears dimmer than other 300 nit panels and SDR HDR headroom is limited
  • Panel lottery is real: multiple users reported dead pixels or stuck pixels on first units, requiring exchanges
  • Poor choice for Mac users — the ~109 PPI causes significant eye strain on macOS, which no longer handles non-Retina scaling well
  • HDMI is capped at 144Hz (or lower); 180Hz requires DisplayPort — a point of confusion for console users expecting full refresh over HDMI
  • Some users report long-term reliability concerns with MSI monitor panels in general, citing failures around the 2-year mark on older MSI models

The Yellowish Tint Fix That Went Viral

A community-made color settings guide for the 275QF became one of the most upvoted posts in r/Monitors, with hundreds of owners thanking the poster. The default profile is widely considered unusable — but the fix takes about 10 minutes and the results are dramatic.

Best Sub-$200 1440p Monitor or Just Cheap?

Reddit's consensus is that the 275QF represents a genuine value ceiling for budget QHD gaming — multiple users noted that $150-170 has been the brick wall for IPS 1440p 144Hz+ monitors, and this one delivers the specs without compromise on the things that matter most for gaming.

Mac Users: Skip This One

Two separate high-engagement threads featured Mac users debating whether to return the 275QF due to eye strain. The verdict was nearly unanimous — the low PPI is incompatible with how modern macOS handles scaling, making it a frustrating experience for anyone coming from a Retina display.

Note that shipping is extremely slow; I ended up asking Best Buy to price match and got 5% extra with Paypal BB cashback, ETA is by 10/09.

Have you tried changing some of the settings like brightness, HDR mode, etc?

It's a gaming monitor, hence the lower resolution and high refresh rate. It's not good for anything else. Agree with getting a 4K monitor at minimum, or a 5K Studio Display if you can swing it.

Your eyes / head are the absolute & best judge. If they hurt, run! Monitors for loads of text work need to be different than video than gaming. The general comments here make sense - 4K 27'' is probably the way to go.

Ignoring these disrespectful, intelligence-insulting advices about wrong brightness, I can say that you will probably not get used to it. Reasons for discomfort are diverse and are not restricted to brightness, gamut, color temperature etc; you may be sensitive to backlight spectrum, polarization direction, subtle flickering due to improperly configured panel. Just return and buy something else. G2724D is a good candidate.

This is good pricing, $150-170 is good pricing for a monitor with these specs. Prime day is very unlikely to bring 1440p 144+ IPS monitors down further.

Return it. That display is ~110dpi and text looks bad on 110dpi displays with modern versions of MacOS. A 27" 4K display in 2560x1440 scaled mode will look good.

Keep in mind that Dell is using different type of panels on G2724D. I don't know if it's just me but I didn't like colors of it.

I did purchase few days ago. Very good. 0 dead pixels, no backlight bleed. Colors are good. After trying so many different RGB color settings, this came out best for me: R: 45, G: 45, B: 97

If you have ghosting just put the response time to fast instead of fastest in monitor settings.

I picked up two of the g2724d and also have the MSI QPF from last year's deal and the QPF is better in a side by side comparison than the Dell panels I received.

Just wanna say, I followed all these instructions, instantly it looks a lot better. Text isn't hard to read, the screen doesn't look like my eyes are out of focus. I played a round of CS2 and hadn't realised how green and yellow some things actually are, or how colourful the buy menus can be. Looking forward to playing and watching more with this on.

I was looking at these earlier in the year on amazon and the amount of light bleed photos in the reviews instantly put me off.

I had to send my 1st order back since it had about 50 pixels that were only showing red green or blue. Also the 2nd one that they sent me has 3 dead pixels and about 10 to 20 pixels stuck on red or blue or green. I have the older gen 274qpf and gotta say the panel and the stand on that one has a better quality. Either buy the 274qpf or go with something else that can beat the 274qpf quality in the same price range.

It's a great monitor. I've got the white version on my desk and I've got no complaints. As for IPS glow, I'm not staring at dark screens all day, so it's not really an issue for me. Every panel type has its pros and cons anyway — OLED has burn-in concerns, IPS has glow, and VA panels have those bad viewing angles. Just depends what matters most to you.

I daily drive this, its a great monitor, and as long as you don't look for perfect blacks and just want a decent responsive monitor, go for it. My wife has an Asus strix OLED and even next to hers I'm content and happy.

Bought and returned last year, owned for over 2 weeks, it had terrible light bleed around the edges. Ymmv I just didn't have good luck. I purchased the 40" monitor from MSI for $280 on Black Friday.

Don't buy MSI monitors. Idk what panels or models are affected, but since years, the panels start to fail after ~2 years. I'm a massive MSI fan, but I'll never buy a monitor from them again. I saw at least 30+ confirmed cases of those panel/PSU issues, and mine broke down too after barely 2 years, and according to MSI, can't be repaired.

I just purchased this monitor 3 days ago. Absolutely love it. It's paired with a 9800x3d and 5080. As long as your rig can push 300fps then it's forsure worth it.

I own it, and it's great. I also have the 4K oled Alienware, several more ips alienwares and I actually use this more for gaming than the others.

I bought the 274UPF 16 months ago. The panel went out. It was going to cost over $200 to ship it and insure the package for RMA. I won't buy MSI monitors again.

I recently got mine and after using it for 1-2 hours, I feel uncomfortable and there's bad eye strain no matter what brightness/contrast I set. Coming from a 24inch IPS monitor.

I just bought 3 of them for my triple monitor setup. I upgraded from an Alienware PC with an i7/2080 Super to a Lenovo with a 285k/5090 RTX. I originally had triple Dell Ultrasharps at 1080p/60hz. So far the upgrade is great. You really can tell the difference between normal office work and gaming. Everything just seems smoother.

I decided to buy the cheaper 274QF, I'm very happy about it, it's night and day compared to my old 1080p 60Hz TN monitor. I was impressed by the vibrant colors the first time I turned it on, and the fluidity of having 180Hz. The included DisplayPort cable is very handy and decent quality, supports QHD at 180Hz perfectly so no need to buy it separately.

I just bought the 274 for €170 in Spain. Very happy with the change from my old MSI 60hz 1080. Night and day... now I can enjoy my 5070.

Does anyone know how to fix FPS mode on the 275QF? Everything green is grey. I've reset the monitor multiple times and can't find anything online about this. I do not recommend this monitor at all, it's the worst monitor ever made.

I saw this post and it actually looks good after trying all these out. Do you always prefer HDR on? On the MSI MAG 275QF sharpness on 5 looks really good I have to say so but it's probably personal preference.
