Summary

The MSI MPG 322URX QD-OLED is a 32-inch 4K 240Hz monitor built on a third-gen QD-OLED panel, and Reddit's overall verdict is that it delivers a genuinely stunning display experience — vivid colors, true blacks, and silky motion — but the value proposition is heavily debated. It's positioned as the only truly native DP 2.1 UHBR20 32-inch OLED (no DSC required at 4K 240Hz), which makes it the logical pick for RTX 5000 series GPU owners who want to avoid compression entirely. The target audience is enthusiast PC gamers willing to pay a premium for future-ready connectivity and top-tier panel quality, though plenty of users argue the DP 2.1 premium over the 321URX isn't worth it for most people. Owners who have it tend to love the image quality; critics mostly take issue with the pricing, not the display itself.

Pros

  • True DP 2.1 UHBR20 (80 Gbps) enables native 4K @ 240Hz without DSC compression — a genuine advantage for RTX 5000/5090 owners running triple monitor setups where DP 1.4 would require two display heads per monitor
  • QD-OLED panel delivers exceptional color accuracy with near 99% DCI-P3 coverage, infinite contrast, and True Black 400 HDR certification — owners consistently describe the image quality as a dramatic leap over IPS or VA displays
  • MSI provides a DSC toggle switch, giving users flexibility that rivals like the Gigabyte FO32U2P lack — a feature that owners with both units specifically called out as a meaningful differentiator
  • Comprehensive connectivity package: USB-C with 98W power delivery, KVM mode, HDMI 2.1, and G-Sync Compatible certification — making it viable as a productivity and gaming hybrid display
  • Gaming Intelligence software allows in-Windows monitor control, and MSI offers 3-year burn-in warranty coverage alongside proactive Panel Protect firmware to reduce OLED degradation risk
  • Third-gen QD-OLED text clarity is rated as nearly indistinguishable from quality IPS panels, addressing a longstanding OLED concern for users who also do productivity work

Cons

  • Priced at $1,299 versus the functionally near-identical 321URX at $949 — the $350 premium buys DP 2.1 and USB 3.2, which most users with current-gen cards won't meaningfully benefit from since DSC introduces no perceptible visual difference
  • HDR 1000 mode has a documented EOTF curve issue in real-world use — a Monitor Unboxed investigation found that MSI's claimed firmware fix improves specific test patterns but not actual gaming scenarios, making True Black 400 the preferred HDR mode for most owners
  • Panel Protect anti-burn-in routine is disruptive and can trigger at inconvenient times, locking out the monitor for 5-10 minutes — some users report it firing randomly even with lenient settings, though this appears to be a firmware bug
  • Some users report intermittent DisplayPort signal loss issues, requiring either a power cycle (unplugging from outlet) or GPU reset to restore — isolated but a recurring complaint in negative threads
  • The monitor ships with only a 1-meter DP 2.1 cable, and at least some early units may have shipped with the wrong cable — users recommend buying a certified third-party 80 Gbps cable (e.g., Silkland) to ensure native DP 2.1 speeds
  • Competing Gigabyte FO32U2P offers the same panel at $999-$1,149 with additional ports (DP out) and a lower price, making the 322URX hard to justify unless the DSC toggle or G-Sync certification matters to you specifically

DP 2.1 Without DSC: Who Actually Needs It?

Reddit's power users are split. RTX 5090 owners running triple 4K setups genuinely need native DP 2.1 bandwidth. For everyone else, users with both the 321URX and 322URX say they can't tell the visual difference between DSC and native — making the $350 gap hard to swallow.

The HDR 1000 Controversy Isn't Fully Resolved

MSI marketed a firmware fix for the 322URX's HDR 1000 EOTF tracking issue, but a Monitor Unboxed deep-dive found the improvement only applies to controlled test patterns. In actual games, True Black 400 still outperforms HDR 1000 — a meaningful caveat for buyers chasing peak HDR performance.

Console Gamers Are Overpaying for Nothing Here

If your primary use is PS5 or Xbox, DP 2.1 does nothing — both consoles top out at HDMI 2.1, which both the 321URX and 322URX share. Several Reddit threads explicitly flag this: for console-only setups, the older model at $300 less is the obvious call.

This is a lot of words for "the price difference to gain DP 2.1 is not worth it"

MSI MPG color calibration and EOTF is better than the Aorus. I have both and know first hand

Review TLDR: Same as the 321URX for $400 more. DP 2.1 isn't essential or worth the price bump. MSI is insane for charging so much for DP 2.1. Product dead in the water as far as sales unless the price drops at some point.

I currently have a PG32UCDM, which I will sell to buy the MSI 322URX. I have tested all the OLEDs (I work in a computer store) and the best is the 322URX, which I am going to buy. You are right. This is the best choice.

Thank you for this post. The price has been irritating me.. no reason why this monitor should be priced this high. If we are being real, it's just DP 2.1 that has changed.

Visual comparison plus MSI provides DSC toggle. Aorus doesn't. Another major plus for MSI

The MSI MPG 322URX is $999.99 on MSI's website. Just bought one earlier this week.

I just put in an order for the 322URX from Best Buy yesterday. Would it have made more sense to get the 321? Probably. But I was deadset on an LG C4 42" for the longest time. The way I see it, I'm getting 240HZ, DP 2.1 and 32" formfactor vs the C4's 144HZ, HDMI 2.1 and 42" for only $200 more.

To me, it sounds bogus, and you should have returned to the seller, not RMA.

After consideration, here's what I did - I bought the MSI MAG 321UPX QD-OLED. For me, image quality is the most important, and the panel of the MPG 322URX QD-OLED is the same as the MSI MAG 321UPX QD-OLED. The MPG 322URX QD-OLED costs 1500€ versus 880€ for the MSI MAG 321UPX QD-OLED currently on sale online.

Nah, I ordered the MPG 322URX for $1,299 yesterday. I'm good with it. Being able to use 4K @ 240Hz without DSC is worth it to me.

MSI is a scum company that used third party sellers on amazon and ebay to sell their video cards with scalped prices. So they are officially scalping this

Monitor Unboxed made a video investigating this claim and found it untrue, it improves HDR in specific test patterns but not during real world use

Got the same one 2 months ago, amazing! I gave up 3440x1440p 165hz and have no regrets. The panel is GORGEOUS.

People don't actually imply 'permanently perfect' or 'never obsolete' when they mention the word 'future proof'. When people use the word 'future proof', they are implying that it will be good for the medium-term future, as in it will likely be a solid monitor to use for the next 5 years or longer.

I had the same issue dp port issue with my 322upx, and resetting the card solved the issue. Never had an issue again.

Sounds like they are using the 5090 GPU bundle deal to get rid of the faulty monitors they had.

MSI missed the AMD GPU bandwagon, they are now charging thru the nose for DP2.1 when Gigabyte already charges less for DP 2.1 monitor. DOA

For some reason I never had any waking up issues till I swapped my 4080 to a 5080. Could also be the drivers but my IPS monitor would be on and awake for a bit before my other monitor kicks in.

I want 32" 4K QD-OLED, but don't want to settle for TB400 on the 322URX when TB500 is right around the corner.

i've been looking at the 322urx for a while now and your post might have just pushed me over the edge. the oled blacks are something else and 240hz is perfect for fast games. i feel you on the brightness too - it's surprising how good qd-oled looks even without crazy nits.

I have this monitor and the Panel Protect functionality is super annoying because you can't dismiss it and it renders the monitor unusable for 5-10 minutes which doesn't sound like a lot but can pop up at inconvenient times. I changed the settings to be as liberal as possible (16 hrs), but it will sometimes go off at random times even though I haven't used the monitor overnight.

I had a gaming laptop with a 2070 Super and bought this monitor as well, black and colors were really impressive, but I experienced flickering, especially in really dark scenes, and sent the monitor back. Now I have a new pc with a 5080 and considering to test the monitor again.

The DP 2.1 def makes a difference and it was really easy to set up. I did the firmware update yesterday and that went smooth too. Some people said their monitor had issues with power cycles afterwards but I didn't notice anything.

Unplug the monitor from the outlet and replug it in after a minute. So fucking dumb but that's how I've been getting my dp to start working. Same monitor btw.

I have this exact monitor and it came with everything that you need. It provides a DisplayPort cable that is able to carry the bandwidth. I am able to use it at 4k with 240 Hertz with DSC disabled.

3rd gen QD-OLEDs have excellent text clarity and are nearly identical to high quality LCDs. Burn-in is basically a non-factor nowadays. OLEDs are still great for static content.

I dont know, but for me the Anti-Glare is a No. If I plan to get an OLED, it has to be a Glossy Panel imo. Looks so much better than Anti Glare.

The features this monitor has and some others don't: DisplayPort 2.1a (UHBR20), DisplayPort type-C, KVM mode. Consider it if DP 2.1 and connectivity matter to you.

The latest firmware fixed absolutely NOTHING and the HDR-Peak1000 is still worse than the HDR400 which is a total shame for a monitor of this price. So far I see that DP2.1 is absolutely worthless since there's no visual difference with DSC.

I can't stand the black screens and freezing input when I started my PC. Or when I change between HDR/SDR or any other change. I don't play in full screen, have to do borderless, I alt tab way too much regardless of DSC. But the black screen freezing input on startup and any change is enough I'd actually probably pay more for DP2.1

This is a pet peeve of mine so huge — yes the premium is because literally any other 32" OLED monitor on the market is not TRULY UHBR20. There is no other UHBR20 32-inch monitor.

I'm seriously considering this MSI to replace my Alienware AW3423DWF 1440p ultrawide. I need a display that has USB-C and PD of at least 90W for my work laptop. And I'm sort of out of love with ultrawide displays now.

I got 322urx for less than 1 week, dp signal missing, tried swap GPU dp port, swap dp cable app not working. Send to RMA, they fixed but make my screen full of smudges and can't wipe them out. Filed another RMA, got rejected and they void my warranty.
