Summary

The MSI PRO MP225V is a budget-oriented 21.5-inch VA panel monitor targeting users who need a functional display for casual gaming, office work, and everyday browsing without spending much. Reddit sentiment is generally lukewarm — most buyers acknowledge it gets the job done at its price point, but the VA panel draws consistent criticism for ghosting and black smearing. A key source of confusion in threads is the panel type: the MP225V uses VA while the MP225 (no V) uses IPS, and users frequently recommend opting for the IPS version if available at a similar price. It's a solid pick for someone on a tight budget with no demanding display requirements, but enthusiasts and even moderate gamers tend to steer buyers toward alternatives.

Pros

  • 100Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time make it competitive at the budget price point, outpacing many older 60/75Hz monitors in its tier
  • 4000:1 contrast ratio is a genuine VA panel advantage — dark scenes and movie watching benefit from deeper blacks compared to IPS at the same price
  • 100% sRGB coverage is sufficient for general productivity, content consumption, and casual gaming without color accuracy concerns
  • 300 cd/m² brightness is adequate for typical indoor use and office environments
  • VESA mount support and tilt adjustment give it flexibility for ergonomic setups that many budget monitors skip
  • Adaptive-Sync support adds value for AMD GPU users looking for basic tear-free gaming on a tight budget

Cons

  • VA panel is the most divisive aspect — multiple users report visible ghosting and black smearing, which is a known weakness of VA at budget price points
  • No DisplayPort — only HDMI and D-Sub (VGA), which limits connectivity options for modern GPU setups
  • Users frequently recommend the IPS version (MP225, no V) instead, noting better color and panel quality for similar money
  • Quality control concerns surfaced in threads, including a reported dead vertical green line appearing after just 8 days of use on a related model
  • At 21.5 inches, several community members suggest the size feels cramped and push toward 24-inch options for only slightly more money
  • Adaptive-Sync compatibility caused confusion for Nvidia users, with at least one owner unable to enable it on an RTX 3060 Ti

VA or IPS? Buyers Keep Confusing the MP225V With Its Better Sibling

The MSI PRO MP225V's biggest Reddit problem isn't the monitor itself — it's that users constantly mix it up with the IPS-based MP225. Multiple threads end with someone recommending buyers skip the V variant entirely and spend the same money on the IPS version.

£59 / $60 Gets You a Working Monitor, Not a Great One

Reddit consensus is consistent: the MP225V fulfills its role as a functional budget display, but nobody's impressed. It's the monitor you buy when your old one dies and the budget is firm — not the one you save up for.

Ghosting Is Real, But Casual Users Barely Notice It

Owners who game lightly report the VA ghosting isn't as bad as feared, while enthusiasts say it's a dealbreaker. If you're doing CAD work, office tasks, or watching content rather than competitive gaming, the smearing is largely a non-issue.

Note its HDMI/VGA, no DP.

24inch 165hz+ cost twice as a 75hz 21.5 inch much in America as well. It's twice the monitor and it's worth it every penny. Save up until you can get the 24inch 165. I recently made the switch from TN to IPS. Not as big of a deal as I expected. If you get the 100hz ips I don't think you'll see a night and day difference. You will see a night and day difference if you go to 165hz.

Thanks. I can probably use this for whatever, since only PCs use DisplayPort.

I just bought the MP225 today for ₱2,900 from techwarez in Shopee. After a lot of research, I chose it because it offers the best value among 100 Hz monitors. The color quality is also pretty good. don't buy the mp225v because it's a VA panel choose the ips version.

I did; I am no expert, but we noticed an immediate improvement in brightness and quality... But bear in mind the point of comparison is the old monitor of 10-12 years.

In case someone sees this post: I bought mp223 and had tons of problems with it. If you have 2 monitors, and one of them is mp223, there are issues like monitors not turning on and picture freezing.

That range is almost the lowest tier available today, with the exception of it being 100hz instead of 60hz, but I'm pretty sure they just manage to overclock the same panels that used to be 60hz, so its no added cost. At that price range most will be similar, so you can't really go wrong or right.

Personally, I haven't used that specific monitor but it looks solid based on the specs. Might want to try reading some reviews or ask in a gaming community for their experience with it before pulling the trigger!

Did you end up getting the MSI? I'd be curious to hear how it is color wise and maybe how videos look?

I currently have one and it's a decent monitor for its price, with 100hz and 1ms response time, the downside is that it uses a VA panel, which is more prone to ghosting (but it doesn't seem to be that obvious)

I have this monitor and it works fine, however I haven't been able to enable the adaptive sync. I enabled it in the monitor settings but I can't find it in any nvidia app settings. Is it only available for amd gpus? Im using an rtx 3060 ti

The acer has a higher refresh rate, has a ips panel which is better for gaming, and has better quality control than msi.

No. It's small. You should find a 24 or preferably a 27in. Also this is a VA panel. Find an IPS panel instead for better picture quality (a little pricier). Unless this is free or very very cheap, you will be immensely underwhelmed.

BTW I just bought the MP225. The monitor is quite good but not worth switching from 75hz in your case. Save up some money and go for 165hz.

My MP225 developed a vertical green line after just 8 days of use. So, I requested a refund, and Techwarez approved it. It seems to be an isolated case, since a Redditor who also bought the same monitor from Techwarez didn't have any issues.

I noticed that 22 ips is better than 24 in the matter of details and blurriness. I hv a samsung 24 75hz ips but im planning to move to msi pro 225 ips.

I wanna update not because of hz mainly. I wanna update to an IPS panel mainly. Cause I use it for reading and black smearing is quite noticeable.

Not worth it imo. I used to have a 100hz predator ultra wide monitor but I downgraded to a 4k 60 hz 16:9 and I can't tell the difference.
