Summary

The Samsung Odyssey OLED G60SD has earned strong praise from Reddit's gaming monitor community as a standout QD-OLED option that brings something genuinely different to the table: a matte anti-glare coating in a category dominated by glossy panels. Most owners report an impressive experience once they dial in the settings, highlighting the 360Hz smoothness, deep blacks, and HDR performance that leaves IPS displays in the dust. That said, it's not without friction — out-of-box colors require calibration, firmware quirks around connectivity and HDR recognition have frustrated some users, and the fragile navigation joystick has already snapped for multiple owners. It's best suited for competitive gamers and enthusiasts who game in controlled or dim lighting, and less ideal for productivity-heavy setups or bright rooms.

Pros

  • 360Hz refresh rate provides a noticeably smoother experience in fast-paced games — owners switching from 165Hz IPS panels describe it as a night-and-day difference
  • Matte QD-OLED coating (Samsung's 'Odyssey Glare Free') is a genuine differentiator — one of the only 27" 1440p OLED monitors with matte finish, making it usable in moderately lit rooms where glossy QD-OLEDs would be a mirror
  • HDR1000 peak brightness mode delivers stunning results in dark games like Path of Exile 2 and God of War, with QD-OLED's high color volume producing vivid, saturated HDR that owners consistently describe as breathtaking
  • Clean, premium industrial design with a metal stand that doesn't scream 'gaming' — the silver build quality gets consistent compliments, with the RGB backlight ring as an optional flourish
  • Samsung covers burn-in at normal usage within their warranty, and multiple owners with 6–12 hour daily sessions report zero burn-in after months of heavy use
  • Strong value at sale prices around $549, where it competes directly with glossy 240Hz alternatives at similar or higher price points while offering 360Hz and the unique matte coating

Cons

  • Out-of-box color calibration is poor — most owners recommend switching to 'Original' or 'Eco' picture mode immediately, as default settings look oversaturated or washed out
  • The physical navigation joystick is a known weak point: multiple Reddit users reported it snapping off within weeks of purchase, which also breaks menu access since it doubles as the only control input
  • HDMI port has a persistent HDR bug where Windows incorrectly reads peak brightness as 400 nits instead of 1000 nits, causing games to auto-configure HDR incorrectly — the fix is using DisplayPort
  • Slower pixel response times compared to other QD-OLED monitors using the same panel (an A/D board difference, per Rtings data), though the practical impact in gaming is debated and hard to perceive
  • No USB-C with alternate mode, limited I/O options, and DSC is required for 360Hz over both DisplayPort and HDMI — Nvidia users on older GPUs can't use custom resolutions or DLDSR at high refresh rates
  • VRR flicker occurs when frame rates drop below the minimum VRR range (~48fps), and turning off FreeSync is required to unlock 360Hz in Nvidia control panel, which can catch new owners off guard

The Joystick Problem Nobody Warns You About

The G60SD's single physical control — a small navigation joystick used for all menu access — has a documented fragility issue. Multiple Reddit owners reported it snapping off within weeks of normal use. Since it's also the only way to navigate settings, a broken joystick means no menu access at all.

Is Matte QD-OLED Worth It, or Just a Compromise?

The G60SD's matte coating is its biggest market differentiator, but Reddit is genuinely divided. Owners in well-lit rooms love it for eliminating the mirror-like reflections that plague glossy QD-OLEDs. Critics argue it mutes the color pop that makes OLED worth the premium in the first place. One user even stripped the coating off — and the community was not impressed.

Competitive Gamers Are Pairing This With Mid-Range GPUs

Several owners specifically chose the G60SD to pair with RTX 4080/5070-class cards for 1440p competitive play, where the 360Hz target is actually achievable. For this use case — high-framerate esports in a dimly lit room — Reddit broadly agrees it's one of the best options at this price point.

Why not just buy a glossy QD OLED? This makes no sense.

I have this - It does all the things you expect a OLED monitor to do, but the firmware is a bit iffy - I have seen a lot of weirdness with connectivity and fullscreen programs. Assuming other OLED monitors don't have these weird issues, this wouldn't be my first choice w.r.t similar alternatives.

G60SD has matte coating unlike most other QD-OLEDs. Price matches the all time low which I think this is the 3rd time its hit this price at B&H Photo since the beginning of the year.

NGL, I think humans simply enjoy shiny things. I doubt there's any real world benefit to this if the matte screen is clean.

Looks decent. I had originally had this one ordered during Prime day but ended up cancelling it for the AW2725DF. Mostly because the reviews weren't in yet for the G6 and I had already heard a ton of great things about the AW displays as well as the 3 year burn in warranty. Don't regret my decision at all.

I had an annoying amount of trouble with mine and windows hdr. The hdmi port reports to windows it has a max brightness of 400 nits and some games auto set hdr according to what windows says. No amount of profiles in windows settings or editing what is reported by the monitor to windows via custom resolution utility would get windows to correctly recognize its 1000 nits peak brightness. Long story short anyway, use a display port cable and it will all work fine. Only hdmi has this issue.

Best monitor i ever had period. Really has no downsides. HDR is breathtaking and is very very customizable but it can overwhelm you if you change it too much. Just set peak brightness at high, color saturation on 30, calibrate with windows and call it a day. Best thing is if you use some preset like eco it memorizes settings for sdr and hdr separately.

I got it last week and I love it. Very nice sleek design, does not scream 'gaming monitor.' Color and graphics are crisp. You do have to change the picture mode to original before the color is good. HDR looks great as well. I also do enjoy the smoothness of 360Hz.

Prices differ wildly in various regions, for me G6 is cheaper than MSI by about $350-450. That's enough for me to close my eye to it being the silver color.

I've been using 240 Hz version of this. It is a GREAT display. I think you should go for it. The only differences are 360 Hz vs 240 Hz and no RGB lighting. It's not too shabby though since I've read some comments about that RGB ring causing coil whine.

I wonder why this monitor has such slow response times compared to other oleds. It doesn't really matter, but it's just weird.

Chose this over the Alienware one! Both being amazing monitors but my room has too much lights for a qoled. Matte for the W.

I've been running this as my daily work and gaming monitor since Aug 4, 2024. Even though there has been 3 firmware updates, I never had a single problem with it. The coating they use is incredible. It's not glossy like Alienware's, but it's not matte. It makes working in lighted conditions easier because I don't see reflections. Gaming is incredible as would be expected and HDR1000 is insane. Couldn't recommend this monitor enough.

Im using it for couple of weeks now and its great. Original and custom modes were crazy oversaturated so i use eko mode which is the most correct to my eye. One complain is flickering but u can still disable vrr without much difference or use vrr control which implements input lag and stutter.

I have had this monitor since around September of 2024, and I use it heavily for games. Especially ones with static hud elements like FF14. I play that specific game in HDR peak high mode (1000 nits), basically OLED abuse. My sdr brightness ranges from a constant 203 to the monitor cap of around 250, this is also unnecessary abuse. By heavily I don't just mean 1 to 2 hours, more like 6 to 12 hour marathons — and no burn-in yet.

To go between HDR400 and HDR1000, you change the Peak Brightness value. Off is HDR400. Medium is probably the better setting and is between 450 and 500 nits which is really where this monitor can run without too much ABL. Peak Brightness High is the HDR1000 mode which is good for dark games like POE2.

I have this monitor and it's really nice especially with the 360hz. Build quality is good but the external power brick is really chunky. Software is okay but could be better. Only downside I see was due to the fact that this monitor is a matte QD-OLED. The matte finish is somewhat useless IMO because you have to control your lighting environment anyways unless the blacks will have a purple hue. I'd much rather it be glossy for more clarity and color.

I've owned this monitor for a few days and have some opinions. The brightness of this monitor is perfect if you play games in a dimly lit or dark room. 200nits is fairly optimal. But it also is a poor choice for brightly lit rooms and productivity. The monitor coating is less noticeable than other coatings I've experienced. Colors still look vibrant and I haven't noticed a significant dirty screen effect on full white.

As a general rule, I wouldn't recommend OLEDs for work or bright rooms. As for burn-in, check if Samsung covers it in their warranty. If so, you're good. The matte coating is quite good. If you're not familiar with oled options, you basically have the choice between Glossy QD-OLED and Matte QD-OLED (this one).

I've had it for a few months the monitor is great but the on/off switch will eventually break!!! Mine just broke about 4 minutes ago and I made sure I was being extremely careful with it because that was what I saw as the biggest complaint before buying it.

Just really hate the silver accent around the border, it's so distracting. Baffling design choice on an otherwise fantastic monitor.

I have this monitor, I love it so far (about 3 months since I got it). I can confirm that pixel shift is on by default, I don't think you can even deactivate it. You will notice it when you are gaming or watching a video, it's more noticeable in full screen, every so often the whole screen will seem to move ever so slightly diagonally, that's when pixel shift happens.

I use this one, not a monitor expert, but i've had no complaints with it. Easy to set up and run, colors are nice and adjustable. I run it pretty dim on SDR most of the time and its fine for casual use. I use HDR for movies and AAA games and it takes a bit of adjusting to get to however you like it, but so does every monitor nowadays. Looks amazing for monster hunter wilds so far.

Noticed with free sync on it caps the refresh rate at 240 hz. Was trying to figure out why 360 was not appearing in my control panel for Nvidia. I turned free sync off and 360 refresh rate appeared. Also my FPS lows increased. Win. Win.

Got it yesterday and not sure if I like it or want to return it, but leaning towards the return side. Display port works but when you restart your PC or try to get into bios it just shows no signal on the screen and that it is entering Standby mode. I have to press the restart button on my case multiple times for the screen to only appear when the main os is actually loaded. Switching to the HDMI cable included solves the issue, but this shouldn't be a fix.

After all my research, from what I gathered Samsung has the best OLED panels/color accuracy so yeah they are incredible! As someone mentioned earlier the only dislike is the silver color they went with, but a minor gripe for an amazing monitor!

It has a 3 year burn in protection warranty. Stop worrying about it so much. The g6 has features built in to protect it so you don't have to.

Not sure if it was the matte coating or just not being blown away by OLED in general, but I bought and returned this. The most impressive thing about this monitor was the metal stand it came with, and the RGB back lighting. The bezels were thicker than my IPS panel monitor.

I returned it. Mine had coil whine and i didn't get it for the matte finish. I found the out of the box colours to be terrible. I bought the AW2725DF for $180 less and preferred it out of the box within an hour of using it after using the g60sd for 2 weeks. Found the HDR and signal switching much slower as well. The pixel shift is also much much more noticeable on the g60 than the AW.

I have two of them, it's worth it for the open box price. Both of the ones I bought were open box. One for 543.99, the other for 516.99. Came with the full samsung warranty, I don't plan on returning them.

Had my G6 since early January and just had the stick break the other day. Although I think I got lucky and it split just right that I should be able to glue it back together after I get some.

I am also thinking of getting this monitor since i run a 2x 1440p setup and I am not planning to go to 4K soon. The only checkbox that is missing for me is the bad text clarity on this one, else I'd go for it.

The matte coating on this one is actually really solid tbh, not worth risking your warranty and usability during the day for a bit better clarity.

I had the monitor for three weeks only and already got burn-in in form of two vertical lines in the middle of the screen (ca. 1cm thick). Also the image is flickering at times via HDMI and DP. I was very careful and took all the security measures. I'm returning it now.
