Summary

The Google Pixel 10 Pro is a polished, clean Android experience that satisfies most everyday users, but divides Reddit sharply on whether it justifies its premium price. Long-time Pixel fans upgrading from the 6 or 7 series generally love it, praising the buttery-smooth display, vastly improved fingerprint sensor, and strong camera stills. Those coming from the 9 Pro, however, find it a marginal upgrade at best. The Tensor G5 chip — now on TSMC — runs cooler than any previous Pixel generation, but still lags behind Snapdragon and Apple silicon in raw performance and GPU output. Battery life is the most polarizing topic on the sub: some users report 8–12 hours of SOT with background app optimization, while others struggle past 5 hours without changes. Priced at $1,100+, the community broadly agrees it's compelling only if you score a carrier deal or trade-in credit.

Pros

  • Fingerprint sensor is dramatically faster and more reliable than prior Pixel generations — one of the most-praised upgrades mentioned across threads
  • Tensor G5 on TSMC 3nm runs noticeably cooler than Pixel 8 or 9; one reviewer noted it ran cooler than the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Nothing Phone 3
  • Qi2 / PixelSnap magnetic wireless charging is a genuine quality-of-life upgrade, especially appreciated by users coming from older Pixels without it
  • Camera stills remain class-leading for most shooting scenarios; Night Sight still draws praise, and 50MP photo processing no longer has noticeable lag
  • Compact form factor (non-XL) gets repeated shoutouts for being pocketable and comfortable one-handed compared to the bloated XL competition
  • Clean stock Android with zero carrier bloatware; Google's call screening and spam blocking are cited as features hard to leave behind

Cons

  • Video recording is widely criticized as dead last among current flagships — multiple threads reference the PetaPixel review calling out poor video compared to iPhone 16 Pro
  • 100x 'ProRes Zoom' is largely AI hallucination according to reviewers; text and fine detail are reconstructed, not captured
  • Tensor G5 GPU performance is underwhelming — users report game compatibility issues on the Play Store and frame drops in titles that run fine on Snapdragon or Apple chips
  • Battery intelligence feature automatically limits charging to 80% after 200 cycles with no user toggle, and drops to 80% cap after 1,000 cycles — no opt-out
  • US models ship with eSIM only, no physical SIM slot — a frustrating removal that competitors like Samsung haven't made
  • Charging speeds are slower in real-world tests despite the spec bump from 37W to 45W; hard to justify at $1,100–$1,200 when Chinese flagships charge at 50–90W

Battery Wars: Who's Actually Getting 8+ Hours?

Reddit is split down the middle. Heavy optimizers who kill background apps and ditch Facebook report 8–12 hours SOT. Users on default settings with moderate social and streaming use consistently report 4–5 hours. The truth appears to be that great battery life on the Pixel 10 Pro requires deliberate setup — it doesn't come out of the box.

The TSMC Upgrade Didn't Fix What Pixel Fans Hoped

For years, the community blamed Samsung's fabs for Tensor's thermal and performance woes. With G5 on TSMC 3nm, thermals are genuinely improved — but GPU performance, video encoding, and raw CPU throughput still trail Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite by a wide margin. The goalpost has now shifted to Google's rumored fully custom silicon expected around 2027.

iPhone and Samsung Switchers Are Surprised — In Both Directions

iPhone converts coming from 13 or 14 series often report being pleasantly surprised by Android flexibility and Pixel's clean UI. But those coming from iPhone 16 Pro frequently notice app loading delays, slower copy-paste UI, and Android Auto lag that feel jarring by comparison. The gap is small but consistent enough that multiple users returned their units within the trial window.

The list of improvements really is quite minor. You get better performance from the new Tensor G5 chip and some niceties in the form of the magnetic Qi2 charging and Pixelsnap accessories, but that's really about it. The phone is quite cumbersome to use because of its weight and stiff buttons, the G5 chip is lacking compared to rivals with questionable long-term performance, and the charging speeds and battery life remain unimpressive. The software was also quite buggy.

None of this would be as much of an issue if the phone was priced like $200 less than the competition or if it wasn't released by a company as large as freaking Google.

I've skimmed through the full review, Gsmarena was really harsh and brutal on this one. They usually are overtly positive in Pixel reviews, but this one was really negative. I can't blame them. The specs simply aren't good enough for the price. For 800, maybe 1000 usd it would be great but for 1200 it's just not good enough and is bad vfm compared with its actually flagship competitors.

Love my Pixel 10 pro. Only criticism is I prefer the back finger print scanner, but no phones today have that.

One of the Pixel 10 Pro XL's party tricks is being able to capture images at 100x. The camera uses data from the sensors and then uses a local upscaling and image reconstruction algorithm to recreate a convincing-looking image. At first glance, these images look quite good until you realize you are mostly just looking at AI hallucinations. The AI can reconstitute details that it is aware of, but if you try capturing text from a distance that it cannot recognize, you get the typical AI garbling.

Your comment history overflows with Pixel praise so it doesn't seem as if you have ever apologized for it.

They are dead last for video. Photo they are one of the best but video is dead last. Samsung is in the middle. Photos are up there but not always the best especially moving objects. Videos are almost on par with iPhone though.

Just saw Dave2D review and the Pixel 10 Pro camera video footage looks horrendous compared to what you get with the iPhone 16 Pro. Unacceptable imo considering the price and the significantly less powerful chip that it also has.

How they are able to mess up off-the-shelf stock ARM cores is just super fascinating. They've been poaching entire teams from Qualcomm yet this is what they have to show for it.

How do you get 8 hours of SOT on a single charge? I can barely get past 5 hours, and I find the battery drain to be terrible when the phone is just sitting with the screen off. Otherwise love the phone don't get me wrong (couldn't care less about Tensor lacking performance), but battery is very mid.

I love my 10 Pro XL, but I agree that this phone is not worth the plus 1k it's priced at. You can't put a custom chip and not at least come close to Apple and Qualcomm silicon. They downgraded the camera and nerfed the GPU, but it's priced like a flagship. It's a good thing I didn't pay full price for it. With the trade-in & store credit from last year, it brought down the price significant, which was an easier pill to swallow.

Question for this sub: What's the new endgame now? Back when Pixels first launched, most of its shortcomings were chalked up to them using Snapdragon chips. When the Pixel 6 came out, that shifted to 'the Tensor being a modified Exynos chip' and the P10 was supposed to fix everything. Now that the G5 seems to be lacking, what's the new goalpost?

10th iteration and they still can't make a damn phone that takes good video. If they want iPhone defectors this has to be priority number one, not stupid AI parlor tricks nobody wants.

My 10 pro xl is fantastic! Great battery life, everything is smooth and I can finally play games with my kids without it lagging like they would on my 8 pro.

I will say, I'm partial to squared off screens like the P6 Pro or, ideally, Galaxy S24 Ultra. The rounded edges bugs me because it feels less efficient real estate wise. But the phone feels solid and expensive, from the design to the button clicks with almost no play.

If your USB/battery is still fully functional, my advice is to maybe wait for Pixel 11. The 10 Pro is definitely a solid upgrade from the 6 in every way you'll need, but nothing that will knock your socks off, especially compared to anything priced accordingly from competitor brands. It's essentially a Pixel 9.5, with the major focus being AI integration and magsafe/Qi charge integration.

After the new September update my 10 pro XL's battery went completely to shit. The regular September update I had great battery life, but after the new one they dropped I can literally watch the percentage go down. I don't know what they did but this should not be happening on a $1200 device.

Tbh, I think people talking about 8-10 hours screentime are gaslighting. Personally I'm a bit disappointed with the battery life on the 10 Pro as I find it to be not much better than the 8 Pro I came from. But I pretty much love the phone otherwise.

Coming from a 9 Pro, all I got to say is the phone feels faster and snappier even with Nova launcher still on top. BUT, the Bluetooth and Wifi pairing/re-pairing process is noticeable slower/spottier. I can get in my car, turn the infotainment system on, ignition, drive around and wait up to 2 to 3 minutes for the phone to pair with my car and have Android auto initiate. My former 9Pro took 10 seconds at most.

Unfortunately Googles lack of innovation and insistence on AI features no one really asked for has resulted in a software and hardware experience that sucks. My pixel 6 pro was awesome compared to the competition at the time. Now I'm using a 10 pro Fold... And its just underwhelming.

I got into Googles version of Android back with the Nexus 6 for a ROM that didn't have Facebook and other nonsense installed as system apps and have mostly stayed with them because that cleaner ROM has more or less remained consistent throughout the years. These days I view their phones as mostly just a basic phone that will get timely security patches for years.

Worst part is the modem. Wifi constantly drops, 5G signal way weaker than my old iPhone 12. Underpowered CPU also renders photo editing capabilities a pretty snail like experience, a lot of waiting. Otherwise decent battery, looks good, software is good, AI is ok, has not made a huge difference in my day to day.

Honestly, it's a mixed bag, but mostly negative. Coming from the 9 Pro, there are a few AI subtle improvements. But, none I couldn't imagine they can't implement on earlier phones. However, a lot more apps lag and just don't open. I need to reboot more frequently. The finger print reader doesn't work 80% of the time and I need to use a pin code. Just more laggy and inconsistent.

I am not a heavy user, just reddit, YT, bills/bank/etc. Functionally, the main things that are noticeably better... Fingerprint sensor is a LOT faster and more reliable, and the screen is much brighter. Worth the upgrade? Up to you. But my 7 Pro was fine for daily use.

I got my 10 pro yesterday. Coming from an 8 pro. Moonstone color is beautiful, screen is beautiful, and it feels premium for once. I don't remember ever holding a nexus or pixel that had a good weight to it like this. I will agree tho, battery life is kinda ass.

Coming from a 7 pro, the 10 pro has been a huge upgrade. Much brighter screen, much faster on board AI process speeds. Better speakers. Better fingerprint sensor. Class 3 face unlock allowing you to use face unlock for financial apps.

Came from the Pixel 6 Pro, I LOVE my pixel 10 pro! Big upgrade for me when I waited several generations for something worthy of a purchase and I'm very content with my decision. I don't care about mobile gaming and raw GPU performance. Battery life is better than what I had and of course it could always be better.

I have Pixel 5, iPhone 14 Pro max, and instead of going for iPhone Air or iPhone 17 Pro, I purchased Pixel 10 Pro and just started using it. I can say the built quality is awesome, I am loving it more than iPhone.

So yeah I went from the Pixel 6 and decided to try something different and get the iPhone 17. After a day of fighting with the quirks of IOS 26 I returned it and purchased a Pixel 10 Pro XL. I couldn't be happier with it. It's so nice to be able to have fast UI without the slow laggy animations in IOS 26.

I'm returning my pixel 10 pro. It's had the intermittent WiFi losing internet issue since day one but the last straw was that it lost mobile network, but not mobile internet. I went through all the tips on reddit, and the support laundry list, no luck resolving it. Happens on multiple routers, 2.4 and 5 channels. The call quality has also been absolutely atrocious when either myself, or the other party are on WiFi calling and very inconsistent otherwise. Just seems like the QA or QC process failed here.

Went from regular 7 to 10 pro. Awesome phone and really the same experience just a lot faster with a much better camera. I was able to get rid of most of the AI bs so it isn't much different than the 7.

So I'm coming from an iPhone 16 Pro. I've had this phone (10 Pro) for about a week and a half now, and I'm unfortunately disappointed by the very things everyone told me I'd be disappointed about (performance, mainly). The software is obviously legendary, but unfortunately, when compared to the iPhone 16 Pro, it's slower. I knew this coming in but didn't expect it to be so obvious. I'll most likely return it and stick with Apple until the hardware improves.

Reason I'm not upgrading from 7 to a new pixel is the battery. My 7 is just over 3 years old and the battery has become hugely annoying. And looking at phone comparisons the 10 series still has the worst battery life of any comparable phones and I have zero confidence that longevity is improved. Like does anyone from the Pixel team read this?

My experience with the 10 Pro XL was MUCH worse than when I had the 9 Pro XL. I think it's partly due to the change in GPU. It's just not running up to par from what I've seen. I would say I much prefer the 9 series in all honesty.

Went from 6 Pro to 10 Pro XL. Not happy! My 6 Pro was totally fine, no complaints. But I thought that a 4 version upgrade would be a huge difference. I'm sure it's faster, but not noticeably. Issues so far after just 2 weeks: No voicemail notifications, delayed text message notifications, fingerprint sensor not good, display stays black for a while during and after a phone call.

I think it's on the way to becoming my all-time favorite phone (currently Nexus 5). Coming from a p8p, the size is perfect - just a little narrower, a little shorter - very natural to hold and use one-handed. Operates smooth as silk, fast, great battery life (using it routinely for 12 hours now and it's still got 64% battery).

8 pro 256GB to a 10 pro 512GB. Noticeable difference and I'm very happy with the swap. Battery life is much better for me. The thermals are far better so I can use my phone without it getting really warm. The camera is an improvement too. For me, however, the best change is the storage upgrade.

I have just upgraded my phone from Samsung Galaxy 23 to Pixel 10 Pro. This was a huge mistake. Pixel feels like a downgrade in everything! The fact Pixel's camera is decent is ruined by Pixels awful buggy software. The same video doesn't even display the same in different edit apps of the phone - the color intensity changes randomly so you never really know how your photo/video actually looks. AI doesn't work most of the time, or it tells you, sorry I do not have anything for your request.
