Summary

The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has earned a loyal following among users who prioritize software experience over raw hardware specs. Reddit sentiment leans positive, with most owners praising Google's clean Android implementation, smooth animations, and battery life that consistently outperforms the Galaxy Z Fold 7. It appeals most to users coming from iPhones or Pixel slabs who want a familiar, refined experience in a foldable form factor. Critics point out that the Tensor chip falls behind Snapdragon in demanding tasks, and the phone looks visually dated compared to Samsung's slimmer, more polished hardware. For the $1,800 price, some feel the hardware compromises are hard to justify — but owners who commit tend to stick with it.

Pros

  • Google's Pixel software experience is consistently cited as the standout advantage — call screening, Gboard dictation, writing tools, and clean Material You UI are features owners miss immediately when switching away
  • Battery life noticeably beats the Galaxy Z Fold 7 in real-world use, with multiple Z Fold switchers specifically calling this out as the deciding factor
  • First foldable to achieve full IP68 dust and water resistance, plus a redesigned hinge rated for significantly higher cycle counts — meaningful durability improvements over both the P9PF and competing foldables
  • Cover screen maintains a normal phone aspect ratio (not the narrow tall slab of the Z Fold 7), making one-handed use far more comfortable for typing and daily tasks
  • Qi2/Pixel Snap magnetic charging support is a genuine differentiator for users already invested in MagSafe accessories
  • Inner and outer displays are 200–300 nits brighter than the P9PF, and UFS 4.0 storage across all capacities makes day-to-day performance feel snappy

Cons

  • Tensor G4 chip is a real limitation for power users — gaming on titles like Genshin Impact or Zenless Zone Zero is described as stuttery or unplayable even at low settings, and video export performance is far behind Snapdragon and Apple Silicon
  • At 258g, the phone is noticeably heavy — heavier than every competing foldable — and multiple users cite weight as the main reason they'd consider returning it or waiting for a lighter iteration
  • Camera quality trails the Pixel 10 Pro XL, particularly in low light and video, despite sharing the brand name — users coming from the Pro XL will notice the gap immediately
  • The inner screen crease is visible and has been a recurring complaint; the P9PF was notorious for developing bumps along the crease, and durability of the inner display coating remains a concern long-term
  • Case ecosystem is thin compared to the Z Fold 7 — major accessory brands like Pitaka and Benks have largely skipped the P10PF, leaving buyers with fewer premium options
  • Face unlock reliability is inconsistent for some users, and there's no one-handed reachability mode out of the box — a noticeable omission compared to Samsung's Good Lock suite

Is Pixel Software Worth $1,800 on Weaker Hardware?

Owners who switched from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 back to the P10PF almost universally cite Pixel's software as the pull — call screening, clean animations, Google integration. But critics note you're paying flagship foldable money for a Tensor chip that stumbles on demanding games and video editing. Reddit is split on whether the software premium justifies the hardware gap.

The Foldable That Finally Takes Dust Seriously

The P10PF is the first foldable phone to achieve a full IP68 rating — protecting against both water and dust ingress through the hinge. Samsung, despite years of head start, hasn't pulled this off. For users who've avoided foldables due to durability anxiety, this is the hardware milestone that changes the conversation.

Heavy, Thick, and Somehow Still the Daily Driver People Keep Coming Back To

Multiple owners in these threads admit they tried the Z Fold 7 — thinner, lighter, technically more impressive on paper — and ended up back on the P10PF. The weight is real, the bezels are large, and the design looks dated next to Samsung's latest. But the software keeps pulling people back in ways hardware specs alone don't explain.

IPX8 is upgraded to IP68 (finally rated for dust ingress) a first for foldables due to hinge openings. Both Displays are 200 nits brighter in typical use, and 300 nits brighter in sunlight (peak). The cover display has increased from 160mm (6.3") to 162mm (6.4") despite the folded width reducing by 0.8mm (mostly due to smaller hinge and bezel area near the hinge).

I haven't used either phone. But this reads as making a decision and then reviewing the phone. I could be wrong and the information may be accurate but it just feels predetermined.

10x optical zoom sounds great. I really hope it has the Qi2 magnets. Yes, I know magnets can affect hinge detection but that sounds like an engineering problem that can be overcome.

I'm an early adopter of the Zfold devices. Been one since the 3rd generation. I own the zfold7. I love how thin and light they got this, but it's bordering on being too thin. I usually opt for a phone case, but this model feels like having a case is mandatory; and not for the reasons you're thinking. Getting a nail in between the screen is actually a chore to open this up without a case.

I have both the Pixel 10 Pro Fold and the Galaxy Z Fold 7 - for my use case, I daily drive the P10PF because the wider cover screen and the inside screen's aspect ratio are just better for what I like to use it for (easier to type, reading books/manga, inside camera obscures less on content vs Z Fold 7's). It is (on paper) more durable than the Z Fold 7 with the IP68 rating and revised hinge so more peace of mind on that front. I much prefer Google's take on Android vs Samsung's.

I would switch to a Fold 7 in a second but the oblong screen when folded is a deal killer. It's way too narrow. My PF10 is a proper phone size when folded and that's why I have the PF10 over the Fold 7.

I like the way the P10PF looks. Google is behind in terms of design because it's only their third foldable. Also, they kept cost down by not changing its design from previous gen.

I still haven't really been convinced by folding phones. I prefer just having a great big tablet and a good phone. They are very expensive for very little actual gain. I don't really feel like they replaced tablets for most people and it's just a new way to spend money.

The P10PF is a great device. I've had mine since Jan and I love it. I keep it in a case that has hinge protection and sometimes it's more bulky than I want to deal with but I have a 17PM and a 15PM. I'm using my 17PM today and I do miss the P10PF. It's a great phone.

This doesn't seem like a big enough improvement to justify upgrading, in my opinion. I think I'll stick with my 9 fold.

I HATE my Samsung Fold 7. The software is shit. The phone is shit. It feels like a bag of shit to hold.

I am very happy with my Pixel Fold 10. I use it unfolded constantly and when it is closed, the actual main display is like a regular phone. Win win.

The Z Fold is so much better and faster than the pixel. Only thing the pixel is better at is the battery.

I had Pixel 9 Pro Fold for months and loved it. Switched to Fold 7 after it launched. It's great (I still have it and intend to keep it) but I was missing something. Got Pixel 10 Pro Fold a couple of weeks ago and I love it. It's heavier than Fold 7, but to me it feels more solid and refined. I have Pixel 10 Pro XL and iPhone 17 Pro in the drawer. But P10PF is the one I enjoy using every day.

Enjoying it. It's exactly the form factor I prefer. Wouldn't have minded for a lighter version, but one gets used to it.

Just 'upgraded' to the P10 Fold this week. I miss my OG Pixel Fold. The form factor will never be beat, bezels and chunkyness be damned. I love this new P10 Fold, it's just that the OG felt...perfect. I prefer pixel features to anything Samsung offers, software wise I'll likely continue preferring pixel/google.

Just another spec observation: the inner screen strength is Moshi 5 compared to Samsung Fold 7's Moshi 1 (5 is stronger).

As an ex-Pixel owner, I am fine with the hardware not being state-of-the-art but I will have big questions regarding the SW and the infinite number of 'bug-patch-new bugs-patch-old bugs return' cycles.

The 10 is my first fold. It's fine. Haven't noticed any camera downgrades (coming from the 9XL) at all. Biggest hurdle is...what am I using the inner screen for? Right now, best use is for reading books on kindle but I've only had it for 2.5 months. Maybe I'll discover some gamechanging use case but if not, I'm planning to go back to a slab for the 11.

Decided to return the Pixel 10 Pro Fold sadly! I still love Pixel UI, the haptics, animations, etc. But the hardware is just not as good. I'm hoping Pixel 11 Pro Fold will be thinner and lighter. Sticking to the Fold 7 until then, it easily is my favourite phone of all time. Really really wish there was a Fold 7 with Pixel UI haha. Ideal!

I played with a Pixel 10 Pro Fold and a Galaxy Z Fold 7 at a Verizon store about a month ago and liked the Pixel more than the Galaxy. It just seemed nicer. A few weeks later I decided to buy one. I don't regret it. The only thing I don't like about larger foldables is the inability to securely fit a case to them.

Samsung has to make the more beautiful phone. Because they are far inferior in the software experience compared to pixels. The vanilla Android experience on pixel phones is difficult for Samsung to compete with. So they have to outshine Pixel in the hardware. Otherwise there would be zero reason to ever choose Samsung over pixel if pixel also had the eye appeal and better hardware.

I got mine a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. I loved the fold form factor and had Samsung fold 6 before. But paired with Google's software and AI is just the cherry on top. It's honestly amazing. Also adding mag safe is a huge plus as well as I use lots of magsafe devices at home and in my car.

I do a lot of outdoor recreation, so the IP68 sealed the deal to give this a try. The magnetic Qi2 also might have been enough on it's own to switch me from Samsung back to Pixel.

For me the brighter screen will be a massive improvement. It's embarrassing when I'm trying to show someone something on my OG Pixel Fold and it's impossible to see in even light sunlight or in bright fluorescent lighting indoors. That and better charging speeds and battery will make all the difference for me.

The display has large bezels. I would like better cameras. I would also like slightly better battery life and faster charging. That's all.

I loved the Fold, but did not keep because the low light performance of the camera was not as good as the Pro XL. If taking photos is not important to you, I say go for it!

I personally prefer the Pixel fold design more than the Samsung Z Fold 7. The front screen on the Samsung is too narrow, even though they did widen it from the previous Samsung fold designs. I like how the Pixel keeps the normal phone screen ratio on the front screen. I had the Samsung Z Fold 4 and used the front screen more than the inner screen, and the narrowness of the front screen really bothered me.

Few issues I'm having with the Pixel 10 Fold: No reachability or one-hand mode, really bad oversight on Google. Can't find any web browser that does full screen immersive mode like Samsung Internet browser on Z Fold. Can't take 48MP photo even though it's advertised as so. All my photos are 12MP. Heavy. Quite heavy.

I came from the Pixel 9 Pro XL to the 10 Pro Fold and have been loving it honestly. I intentionally use the wider screen since it's available for stuff like YouTube, Reddit, emails, budgeting, etc. The camera isn't the greatest. You really need to be outdoors in a sunny day to have a good experience. The only real grip is the camera but I'm not using the camera everyday anyways.

If pixel processors could get to be on par with snapdragon chips, I would for sure try one. But they just haven't broke that gap yet.

I plan on trading in my P9PXL for the Fold 10. I do also own a ZFold 7 and although I love it, I miss the Pixel UI and features that come along with it despite not having the best processor in the world.

It's my first google phone and didn't know what to expect. But I fell in love with the design, the weight doesn't bother me. The battery is amazing and I get better screen time than my previous iPhone 15 Pro. For me it feels more premium than the Fold7, who looks like a plastic toy. I'm using Niagara Launcher so it's easy to use one handed. The only downside for me is the terrible gaming performances. Genshin is stuttering on low and Zenless Zone Zero is just unplayable even on the lowest settings.

P10PF is my favorite foldable... I have or have had them all: Honor Magic V5, Vivo X5 fold, OnePlus open, Oppo N5 and the Galaxy fold 7. Funny, because I didn't even plan to try it this year. But went ahead and got one during the Black Friday deal. I'm surprised to say it's my favorite foldable, because on paper it doesn't stack up to the phones I mentioned above. The UI is beautiful on the P10PF, I love the expressive material design. It looks so good and is fast and fluid.

I was the same boat as you, after having an iPhone since the iPhone 4s. I completely agree that PixelOS is the best OS I've ever used—better even than iOS, in my opinion. However, the Pixel's performance, camera quality, and bulkiness compared to the Z Fold 7 affected my decision. The Z Fold 7 feels more premium and futuristic, thanks to its very slim design.

After my Fold 9 died after a year and going back to my Pixel 8, I came to the conclusion that the fold is too heavy for daily use. I hope the pixel fold phones will be lighter in the future... (And not die after a year).

Agree! But it's a heavy bugger. I have a Pixel 6 Pro for work and I notice I pick it up more than the 10 fold. If the fold was lighter, then it would be perfect.

I really hate that both Samsung and Google did not do anything to minimize the crease. The OnePlus Open is like 2 years old now and has the best non visible crease.
