Summary

The Moto G Stylus 5G (2025) has earned strong approval from Reddit's mid-range phone community as a compelling value device that bucks current smartphone trends. Owners consistently highlight the combination of a bright 3000-nit OLED display, 68W fast charging, headphone jack, microSD slot, and built-in stylus as a package that's genuinely hard to beat at its price point. Sentiment is mostly positive, with the main friction point being inconsistent battery life reports — some users get all-day or near two-day battery, while others on heavy usage find it drains faster than the 2024 predecessor. This phone resonates strongly with people upgrading from older Motorola devices, Galaxy Note users seeking an affordable stylus phone, and anyone prioritizing practical features over flagship specs.

Pros

  • 3000-nit OLED display is exceptionally bright for a mid-range phone — users report it outshining screens on much pricier devices including the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra
  • 68W wired fast charging refills the battery in under 30 minutes, with wireless charging also included; a meaningful jump from the 2024 model's 45W
  • Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 handles everyday tasks, social media, GameCube/PS2 emulation via Winlator, and even some PC game emulation without noticeable lag
  • Retains headphone jack, microSD slot, and IP68 water resistance — features increasingly rare in this price bracket
  • Available for as little as $40–$100 through carrier deals on Total Wireless, Straight Talk, Google Fi, and MetroPCS, making the value proposition exceptional
  • The passive stylus improved over prior generations and works well for note-taking on scaffolding, sketching, and screenshots — though it lacks S-Pen pressure sensitivity

Cons

  • Battery life is genuinely polarizing — some heavy users drop to 30% by 8PM, while casual users report nearly two days; software/background app behavior appears to be a major variable
  • The stylus is a basic capacitive pen with no pressure sensitivity, palm rejection, or Bluetooth functionality — a significant step down for anyone coming from Samsung's S-Pen ecosystem
  • Motorola's update policy is only 2 years of Android OS and 3 years of security patches — competitors like OnePlus Nord 4 now offer 4 years OS and 6 years security
  • Poor 2x optical zoom is a repeated complaint, with the periscope-style zoom quality far behind flagships and even some competing mid-rangers
  • No charger included in the box despite the 68W fast charging being a headline feature — an increasingly common but legitimately frustrating omission
  • Screen repair is reportedly difficult and costly, with some repair shops refusing the job; cracking the screen could effectively total the phone

The Battery Life Debate That Won't Die

Half of Reddit swears by all-day or two-day battery life on the Stylus 2025, while the other half complains it dies by evening. The split seems tied to background apps, RAM boost settings, and location services — not the hardware itself.

A Galaxy Note Replacement That Almost Nails It

Note 9 refugees are flocking to this phone for the stylus, flat display, and headphone jack. Most are pleasantly surprised — except when they try to draw with it. The passive stylus gets the job done for notes and screenshots but won't satisfy anyone who actually used an S-Pen for serious work.

The Carrier Deal Makes It Basically Impossible to Ignore

At its $400 MSRP opinions are mixed, but Reddit's real consensus is clear: at $99, $40, or free through Straight Talk, Total Wireless, and Google Fi deals, this phone is a no-brainer. The entire value conversation shifts when the unlock period is just 60 days.

1800 nits in auto brightness is insane for a $400 phone and is better than most flagships, but that battery life is straight up horrendous for the battery size+choice of SoC. Not sure what exactly went wrong.

Motorola really is trying to become a serious competitor in the android space. Very refreshing to see them follow through and not just the usual smartphone chairman/ceo/director of giving out press release after press release of wanting to expand next year.

Pros: Durable and likable design, complete ingress protection. High-res screen, 120Hz, bright. Fast to charge. Adequate performance. Great photo and video quality. Standalone microSD slot. The stylus tucked inside the phone. Cons: Mediocre battery life. Poor 2x zoom quality. No HDR video certifications.

They would be a major competitor if they improved their update policies. Lower the amount of models by like at least 20 percent. They would be killer.

My note finally died so I grabbed a cheap Motorola g75 as an interim, but if the stylus 2025 was released at the time it would have been the perfect replacement, even this budget phone is way snappier than my note felt recently. If you find the stylus 2025 on sale I don't think you'd regret it, even though their OS doesn't offer as much customisation.

Turn off ram boost. For some strange reason it is on by default. Not only does it do absolutely nothing to improve gaming performance, it causes wear on both your ram and storage.

Currently on my 2025 G stylus right now. Upgraded from a 2021 G power. So far very happy. Great display, camera, and quick processing. The battery also last me all day and will still have 40%, and charge to full in less than 30min. My ONLY complaint is that I use plug in headphones sometimes, and the jack is on the bottom and I prefer it on the top, but that's personal preference. Overall, great phone for the price and would 100% buy again.

I do have the 2024 stylus, but the 2025 version is just better. It has slight improvements: a faster charger, better 3000 nits versus 1,000 nits, a better processor, and a better OLED screen on the 2025 version compared to the 2024. So, those slight improvements make a big difference.

I would not hesitate to get the Moto G Stylus 2025. The deal from Total Wireless is amazing and the phone unlocks after 60 days if you pay for 2 months straight.

It's a good phone, just not $400 good. $300 good? Yes. $200 good? Super yes.

They've always been far behind the likes of Google and Samsung. Looks like this phone only gets 2 years of Android OS updates and 3 years of security updates.

I can't speak for this year's model, but when my Note 9 died I had to grab a cheaper phone fast and got a Moto G Stylus from a previous year. The pen is garbage. No features, no palm rejection, no sensitivity, and basically just like you said - an extra finger. It's hard to write with and looks like I just used a finger anyways.

If you have the 2024 stylus it's not worth the upgrade imo. Minor improvements, sure but I think I'll wait at least another year before upgrading.

If you've been using a Moto G Pure, the Stylus 2025 is going to literally be mind blowing in every conceivable way. I have the Pure as a backup phone and the 2025 Stylus as my primary device. The difference in speeds with everything you're doing on the phone is insane. The resolution and quality difference between the screens is pretty significant. As long as you didn't pay a lot of money, you won't have a single regret in upgrading.

I have it and love it. One of my favorite things is how fast it charges. I never really worry about the battery life because I know 10 or 15 minutes charging will give me hours of use.

Micro SD card slot, headphone jack, a reasonable RAM and storage and a good screen and an ok camera. That is all I need, I do not need the most powerful CPU, that is what a PC is for. I am disappointed that it does not come with a charger, Motorola was one of the few companies that did not remove the charger last time.

I had only heard awful things about the battery. I also watched a YouTube channel that did a test on both the 2024 version and the 2025 version, and the 2024 version was demonstrably better. I wanted the 2025 version, but because the battery is below average, I will probably get the 2024 phone instead.

I am glad you have a good battery life. My battery life seems to drain as fast as my old lg k92. The phone itself seems to run a bit hot but. If you decide to game on it. It can handle gamecube and ps2 emulation just fine for the most part.

Has anyone come from a Galaxy Note/Ultra to the Moto G Stylus 2025? My S22 Ultra died and I pulled the trigger on the Moto G Stylus 2025. Thus far the Moto has been great, other than the camera is lacking in comparison--but I knew that going in. The Moto stylus has less screen drag/friction compared to the Spen. This has been a pleasant surprise.

I'm thoroughly impressed by how much 'phone' I'm getting for so little money. It feels like this phone, features-wise came from an earlier part of last decade because it still has a lot of the stuff that was 'consumer friendly' back then (headphone jack, microSD slot, etc) with a gigantic battery with a snappy midrange processor.

I'm loving my new Moto G Stylus 2025. To everybody who is saying that this phone gets rid of the headphone jack...WRONG! This phone still has all of the things the previous models had, and then some! IP68, MicroSD, headphone... This phone upgraded the CPU from a Snapdragon 6 gen 1 in the previous 2 models to a Snapdragon 6 gen 3. The WiFi is double the speed of any of the previous models.

I traded the 2022 in for the 2024 5G and I dare say that it's been the best midrange phone on the market for 2024 and so far 2025. I haven't physically seen or played with the 2025 but I don't know how much better it can get for $400. This thing is amazing!!

I am happy to report that with the latest updates and a few tweaks of my own, the battery life is back to normal, for what I expect from a modern smartphone with this size of battery. There were a few bloatware apps that come pre-loaded that I either removed or disabled, and when not in use, I turn location off. Constantly reaching out to find its location is what seems to run down the battery the most.

I bought it to be used as a tablet for my 5 year old and she loves it, battery lasts forever, the camera is great, also is super snappy for the price.

I paid $99 for it on Google Fi. Combine with the $60 referral bonus, it becomes a $39 phone. Great phone for what I was able to get for it.

I have the moto g stylus 2024 and the flagship Razr 60 ultra here in America I honestly love my stylus 2024 ultra snappy great specs but it doesn't feel as premium as the ultra Razr for sure but a great phone and I paid 300 dollars for it versus 1400 for the razr ultra.

I own the Moto g stylus 2025. It is a fantastic phone. The display is awesome. Dolby stereo speakers. Wired 68 w charging. Wireless charging 15 watt. NFC contactless payments. Snack dragon 6 generation 3. A solid performing chip. You still get a micro SD slot and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. I have had the phone about 6 months and it had absolutely no problems with it. Battery last me all day and then some. Closer to 2 days.

I've had the stylus 2025 since June 2025 && overall I really love this stylus, I've had the 2021 & 2023 G stylus 5G but this one is hands down the best version but.....the battery life is subpar to put it lightly. Everything else is great - the OLED display is excellent, the SOC is good enough, the stylus is improved. I just wished the battery lasted longer.

Late to the thread but I just got this phone and my experience is similar regarding battery life. It's very good. Not sure what some of the reviewers did to get bad battery life.

Amazing value, 144hz screen with 16gb of RAM and respectable 256gb of storage and you can find them 100$ used or 200$ for a new one on sale from Amazon. Worth it 9/10 phone for me.

The 2025 Stylus is premium high class with a 3k display. I use it for Winlator gaming and all premium games run over 25 fps in full hd. Could not be happier.

Been at least 6 months. The stylus is fantastic. Good battery life. Radios. Wireless charging. Headphone jack. Even use the stylus on occasion. And super important to me. Never heats up. It's a lighter newer v60.

AVOID PURCHASE OF THIS DEVICE. If you crack the screen, it is unrepairable. That is, you can repair the glass (via a new body) but there is a high probability of battery issues, motherboard issues or something as simple as volume buttons working incorrectly. I went to 3 different repair shops today and Asurion told me flat out no due to the aforementioned issues.

It's ok. I just have minor nitpicks on it. It's BIG, runs hot sometimes, and I miss when they had their own version of apps over just using google versions. Otherwise, it's a phone that still has a headphone jack and a SD card slot, which is such a big deal.

I am a big fan of the newer Stylus models especially this year's offering. The Stylus 2025 is a much better over the 2024 when it comes to a tougher screen dust/water resistance ratings.
