Summary

The Motorola Signature is Motorola's return to the flagship segment after years of mid-range focus, and Reddit's reception is decidedly mixed. Owners in India — where the phone launched at roughly half the global price — tend to love it, praising its slim build, fast performance, and capable cameras. At the €900–€1000 global price point, however, the consensus shifts sharply: most users argue the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (not the top-binned Elite variant) simply isn't competitive against rivals at the same price. The phone is primarily available in India and Europe, with no official US release, though some Americans have successfully imported it for T-Mobile use. Thermal throttling under sustained load and aggressive AI camera processing are the two most-cited real-world complaints from actual owners.

Pros

  • Slim 6.99mm design with IP68/IP69 rating — thinner than Samsung S25, S25+, and iPhone 17 Pro while maintaining water resistance
  • Bose-tuned stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos praised as 'crazy good' and noticeably above average for the category
  • Quad 50MP camera system with Sony LYT828 primary sensor (same sensor as Oppo Find X9 Pro and Vivo X300 Pro) delivers strong stills in pro mode
  • 5,200mAh silicon-carbon battery with 90W charging included in box in India; owners report full-day battery with 50% remaining after heavy outdoor use
  • Clean Hello UI close to stock Android with desktop mode, Wi-Fi 7, UWB, USB 10Gbps with DisplayPort output — connectivity suite normally reserved for top-tier flagships
  • 7-year OS and security update promise is Motorola's most ambitious software commitment to date, and the phone ships with UFS 4.0 storage

Cons

  • Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 is a lower-binned chip versus the 8 Elite Gen 5 in rivals — OnePlus 15 and Poco F8 Ultra offer more raw performance at a lower global price
  • Aggressive AI post-processing on zoom shots produces grid-like artifacts and over-sharpened results; users report pro/RAW mode is significantly better than the default camera app
  • Thermal throttling is a recurring complaint from owners doing sustained gaming or multitasking — the slim chassis limits heat dissipation
  • No eSIM on the India variant, no headphone jack, no microSD expansion — omissions that sting at flagship pricing
  • Global pricing (~€960) is widely considered DOA; the phone only becomes competitive at India pricing (~€490 with sale discounts), making it a tough sell outside that market
  • Motorola's track record of slow and inconsistent OS rollouts undermines the 7-year promise — the phone was still on the January 2026 security patch in mid-March with no update in sight

Owners Love It, Importers Warn You

Indians buying the Signature at ₹52,499 during the spring sale are largely thrilled. US users importing it for T-Mobile report solid band compatibility but no visual voicemail and no warranty. The hardware impresses across the board — it's the regional pricing that decides whether this phone is a steal or a rip-off.

The Camera Reddit Is Actually Arguing About

The hardware is flagship — same Sony sensor as the Oppo Find X9 Pro — but Motorola's AI processing is the dividing line. Stock mode draws complaints about over-sharpened zoom and grid artifacts, while pro/RAW shooters are genuinely impressed. Motorola is reportedly working with Meta to fix Instagram upload quality, but the stock app needs a software fix more than a sensor upgrade.

The 'Up To 7 Years' Fine Print Nobody Is Ignoring

Reddit caught the 'up to' qualifier in Motorola's update promise immediately, and owners aren't letting it slide — the phone launched in January 2026 and was still on the January security patch two months later. For a phone branded around longevity, the first software update cycle is already a PR problem.

TLDR: Pros: Premium build with IP68/IP69 rating and slim design. Excellent LTPO AMOLED display with 165Hz refresh rate. Very capable quad 50MP camera system. Loud, high-quality stereo speakers tuned by Bose. Clean Hello UI with useful extras and long update promise. Versatile connectivity, including Wi-Fi 7, UWB and desktop mode. Cons: Aggressive thermal throttling under sustained load. Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 isn't competitive at this price point. No eSIM support.

No Motorola phone is worth the hype. Just wait around 6 months after release to get it at a price that is worth paying. Moto phones are too buggy now to pay full price.

The hardware easily beats the iPhone Air and Galaxy S25 Edge in the ultra thin segment and Motorola has a good carrier presence in the US. Seems like a really good phone. For something this thin it doesn't seem that compromised. Camera specs look good too, although I wasn't too impressed with the software processing on the recent Moto Razrs. It's fine at best.

Expandable storage, and up to 7 years of OS and security updates seem notable. The latter might not matter too much depending on how often they actually end up pushing updates.

The biggest news here is Motorola finally committing to 7 years of software updates.

Whoa, pump those breaks... It's 'up to' that means they don't have to do 7 years of updates.

Motorola should at least have changed the design of this so called flagship. It looks the same as a midrange phone, which in turn looks not too dissimilar to a budget phone.

The real problem of this phone is that you can get A LOT of phones for that price. And while Signature is good at everything, if you care about something in particular, phone that does it better is probably in this price range. Like want phone with better performance? You can get it. Bigger battery? Sure, no problem.

I was excited until I found out it doesn't have 8 Elite Gen 5 but just 8 Gen 5 SoC. You can get Poco F8 Ultra or OnePlus 15 for much less.

Camera is much better on Moto. OnePlus 15 have horrible camera and its camera centric phone. Battery is issue, but Moto optimizes their battery well for 6-7 hours of screen on time. More than enough for day to day usage.

The camera is one of the best out there. Love the photo quality of the Motorola.

I'm from India and bought it in India. Yes, it does come with a 90W charger in the box. If you're not tied up with the Apple ecosystem, this Signature phone is a very good value for money.

The OnePlus 15 is 211g and the Motorola Signature is 186g. At the same money and similar specs, I'd choose the one that's 25g lighter. Added bonus that the Signature doesn't have a glass back.

Not sure why Motorola sells this for 55k-59k (~€530) INR only in India. It completely stomps if it was priced like this elsewhere globally.

Great that Moto is trying to enter the phone market again with good phones but to me it feels like they just seem to miss out on what's actually trending. Why not a flat screen like most of the people seem to prefer nowadays. And why not a battery that's more around the 6000mAh like seen nowadays on new flagships? That being said I really love the Moto tuning on Android phones.

The global pricing is absolutely insane, no one in their right mind would spend that much for this phone, especially not a Motorola. In India the phone is hundreds of dollars cheaper, to the point where it's somewhat competitive, but a flagship that is only competitive in the Indian market is DOA.

It just sounds crazy good. Loud but not crappy. Has Dolby Atmos and Snapdragon sound as well.

The specs are interesting BUT: 1. Motorola updates are slow and buggy. 2. Motorola cameras software is bad. At 999€ there are better options. Good phone technically which has to pay the cost of a company with bad reputation (updates and camera) and a launch price too high.

I have one for about a month now. Previously had Pura 70u. In comparison, Signature is blazingly fast, everything works smoothly. Battery is good enough. Spent a day walking/playing Pokemon Go/chilling (about 4h outside, 2h traveling, an hour at a restaurant) and still had 50% left once I came home. Charges fast if you have a proper charger and cable.

I've imported a Motorola Signature from India because the bands meet the standards of T-Mobile's Network perfectly. I'm in love with this device, and I'm so excited to see how it shifts my productivity in the coming weeks as I learn to navigate a new ecosystem. So far I'm blown away by the hardware — it's fast, it's flirty, and it's fun.

7 years of updates meaning you're not gonna get the updates until almost every other brand has them and the beta for the newer version of Android is already out. Plus let's be real, Motorola will probably only give you 2 updates then abandon it because they don't care about updates.

This is the only phone they have released so far that actually makes me want to upgrade from my Thinkphone. The camera alone has me excited. It would have been a great competitor to the Pixel based on all reviews so far.

It is DOA at that price point with just a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5. Just simply not enough performance for the money. You can get the OnePlus 15 for the same amount of money and it's a much better deal in every aspect. Bigger battery, much more powerful, faster charging, still get a big display, still get a phone that isn't absurdly thick.

My experience with the Motorola Signature was not good. The chipset starts heating even after basic usage and the battery backup is also not good. Not recommended for this price range.

I went ahead and bought it a few days ago — Olive 16/512. It's a great phone, great screen, great photos. But Moto Hello UI is behind all other UIs and the phone feels like crap. Plastic. They needed a glass back.

This is the first time I've bought a phone that's above the mid-range segment (and my first Motorola). Can someone explain to me how much Motorola must have paid the people behind the DxO ranking for that position? Because most of the time the aggressive AI processing is borderline impossible to look at, even without using digital zoom. There are grid-like artifacts everywhere in the basic shooting mode.

I have been using the Moto Signature for over a month now. Great phone. Lightweight, smooth, clean UI. Regarding updates don't worry much, it's mainly a bi-monthly update. Nice display. Great camera. Overall one can say value for money.

Easy deal. I got the 1 TB + 16 GB one a few days ago. It's amazing, but you'll miss some features that Samsung has. For example, its multi-window mode is poor.

I got this phone two days ago (the 16gb/512gb variant). I think that it is a good smartphone overall, but the flagships have plateaued. There's little difference between them nowadays. I just came from an Honor Magic 6 Pro, and I gotta say that I am not seeing a lot of improvements even though this device is newer. I could even say that it is missing features that my two year old phone had.

I am using Signature for a few weeks now. Its camera itself is great but auto processing needs a lot of improvement. Pics from pro mode come out much better. One more thing is there is no way to turn off AI processing. But these are not too bad considering the price in India plus additional bank discount and first free service from Signature app.

Battery life falls short of expectations, often requiring a midday top-up during moderate use like browsing and calls, plus the Snapdragon chipset heats a lot during these tasks. Totally not worth the price range.

I genuinely don't like this device, it feels like a waste of money. Even after spending so much you will face heating issues and battery drains faster while heavy usage.

It's an amazing buy at 490 Euros/570 USD/INR 52,499 in Mumbai with the Spring Sale from Motorola India. What a steal especially with those flagship specs. Have ordered the Martini Olive one and can't wait to get mine.

Not fully convinced yet, mostly because of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 inside. It's fast initially, but under prolonged workloads like desktop mode or rendering, heat buildup can limit performance. In 2026, sustained GPU performance matters more than short benchmark bursts.

For this price, not getting the absolute top Snapdragon chip is already a bad start. It's not that the phone is slow, but when you compare it with others in the same range, it clearly feels a step behind.

The camera hardware is fairly impressive — the main sensor is the same one used in the Oppo Find X9 Pro and the Vivo X300 Pro. It would have been nice for Motorola to partner up with a camera brand of some sort to improve their camera processing, though.
