Summary

The OnePlus 15 is a flagship Android phone that has sparked genuine debate across Reddit, with users split along a clear fault line: those who love its insane battery life, buttery OxygenOS, and 100W charging, versus those frustrated that its camera system is a step back from the OnePlus 13. Battery performance is the phone's undisputed standout — users routinely report ending the day at 50-65% with regular use, and the 7300mAh cell with 100W charging has become a signature selling point. Camera quality is the dominant criticism, with many users and reviewers calling out that the OnePlus 13 technically had better camera hardware, making the 15 feel like a lateral or backward move in this area. OxygenOS gets high marks from long-time fans for speed and polish, though some users note it has increasingly converged with ColorOS and lost its distinctive minimalism. The phone appeals strongly to users who prioritize performance, battery endurance, and charging speed over camera excellence.

Pros

  • Exceptional battery life — users consistently report 12+ hours of screen-on time with the 7300mAh cell, often ending the day at 50-65% charge
  • 100W fast charging remains a class-leading differentiator, with the phone going from 20% to 80% in roughly 30-40 minutes
  • OxygenOS praised for speed, smooth animations, and polished feel — described as 'insanely fast' especially when coming from One UI
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite delivers strong gaming and day-to-day performance with minimal throttling reported
  • Alert slider replaced by action button but still valued by longtime fans; IR blaster included as a practical bonus
  • Competitive price-to-performance ratio in the US, especially compared to Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra or iPhone 17 Pro Max at similar price points

Cons

  • Camera is widely seen as a downgrade from the OnePlus 13 — the 13 had superior hardware in direct comparisons, making the 15's camera a lateral or backward step for the brand
  • Display resolution dropped to 1272p from 1440p on the 13, though many users argue the difference is invisible on a phone screen
  • OxygenOS has been drifting toward ColorOS aesthetics, including a half-baked Liquid Glass style update that breaks visual consistency
  • YouTube reviewers including MKBHD roasted the camera publicly, creating a perception problem that depresses enthusiasm even among users who find it acceptable
  • In markets like India and parts of Europe, the OP15 costs more than the OP13 launched at, despite being a questionable upgrade
  • Some units sold via third-party shops arrived pre-activated or as opened-box devices, raising concerns about grey-market inventory

Is the OnePlus 15 Actually a Downgrade From the 13?

Reddit's most upvoted criticism isn't about bugs or software — it's that the OnePlus 13 had better camera hardware than its own successor. Users who upgraded from the 13 feel the 15 is a lateral move at best.

The Battery on This Phone Is Genuinely Ridiculous

No other flagship topic generates as much agreement on OnePlus subreddits: the 7300mAh battery with 100W charging is the phone's killer feature, and users say nothing else in the market matches the combination of capacity and charge speed.

OnePlus Is Becoming a Gaming Brand Whether You Like It or Not

Oppo's repositioning of OnePlus around gaming performance is dividing fans. Those who want a camera-first premium phone feel abandoned, while users who prioritize raw speed, battery, and charging think the 15 is perfectly tuned for them.

To me it's the 100w charging that keeps me with this brand.

Truth be told the only reason the camera was a problem is that 12 and 13 have better hardware in comparison

There are people in the oneplus reddit running circles trying to justify the 15. The cope is real

The criticisms against the OnePlus 15 are there because the OnePlus 13 exists— and now it will be at an even cheaper price. If the OP15 was the successor to the OP11, it would be a terrific upgrade.

I'm gonna be honest here, and I'll likely be down downvoted to hell, but this phone may be exactly what I need. I don't really care for high-end cameras, neither for the sharpest screen. I need a phone that'll last as long as possible, readable under sunlight, fluid and with zero stutter and as tough as possible.

Overall fair, but I will say that a button doesn't perfectly match the slider in terms of functionality. I like to be able to reach into my pocket and confirm that my phone is silenced.

OnePlus used the word gaming how often and that's where they focus on, what's fine for me

More expensive in India than OP13 launch price. That's just bs considering all the downgrades. They've completely lost it

The phone has been activated. Probably an opened box device that has been resealed.

Always surprised so many people hate on One UI, it is actually my favorite Android skin. I can't stand a lot of the new pastel colors in many other brand's takes on Android. At least with Samsung you have a nice standard default option. New Pixel UI is absolutely trash, most researched update my ass.

You can import the Oppo Find X9 Pro Global immediately if you don't feel like waiting. They're practically brothers but I'd argue the cameras and os are better on the Oppo

Congrats man, sounds like you finally found a great phone. I know that feeling. Had the same wow moment when I got my Magic 7 Pro.

OxygenOS/ColorOS is so bad atm. They've copied apple and HALF implemented Liquid Glass styling, the other half of the OS is still Material You. It's a nightmare if you like consistency.

Good review, op. Oneplus is the pinnacle right now. Us losing power the past week makes me remember why my 13r is a powerbank, too, if you will. I can only imagine having another 1,300 mah.

This just makes me lean more towards buying this phone. I currently have an iPhone 17 Pro, but really want to move to Android. I have a toddler and I take a lot of pictures of him. I was worried about the cameras on this phone. I just like the photos I get on my iPhone but it's point and shoot, I don't know how to manually adjust any settings. I was afraid that the OnePlus 15's cameras would be noticeable worse.

Not sure who would buy this phone considering the camera is one of the most important specs and this doesn't have a good one. I've never seen youtubers roast a phone so bad. Normally they say cell phone cameras are good enough or that they are mostly the same these days.

The issue is that Oppo is refocusing OnePlus to be a gaming brand which may be a valid strategy in other markets like India, but that's not a huge selling point for a lot of people in the US. If you want to get a bonkers gaming phone in the US, there are other options already.

Hot take, there are normal people where these cameras are more than good enough, and many like me use a dedicated camera so rarely use the phone beyond sharing with family. I want the money spent elsewhere, so looking forward to this arriving. Much cheaper in UK than Pixel with a free tablet.

The display thing is so overblown. Anyone who thinks they can see the difference between 1440p and 1272p on a display this size is lying to themselves.

In EU you can get for the same money a Find X9. So yes, we can argue about which one is better. But for me you have more value from Oppo.

I had a problem with buying a device like this. I asked oneplus to send me an official email with details of my device stating that it's an old and used device. They sent an email that if I bought it new, it's a refurbished or used device.

The obsession with cameras on smartphones will be the downfall of them. How many photos are people taking that we need 75% of the phone to be a camera. Pixel 3 has perfectly good photos and only had 1 lens.

The only bug i experience is the smart sidebar not working occasionally, so i disabled it. Otherwise works really well, battery is insane and i'm not used to have it last the whole day over 12 hours without charging.

My problem is that a new version of a phone should not be a downgrade over the old version, especially on critical aspects like processor, battery, camera. The sensor size decrease across all 3 cameras is objectively a downgrade. A downgrade on a critical aspect of the phone. That's my problem with it.

on the contrary, when i tried op15, the oos is just garbage, with this update they have killed the soul of oos as to what it was before. now its truly just color os.

I'd prefer it with OneUI only because you miss some features that Samsung has. Dex, using Bixby for location-based reminders, and also just a smaller and lighter phone. But man, the OnePlus devices are so friggin snappy and the battery life is nuts.

Decent photos can be taken on any phone and on the Op15 it will definitely be usable. Honestly if people care about the camera so much then you can just buy a high spec camera. Daily use for OP15 camera will be fine. I am currently using the OP13 and cameras are still good even though it's considered a downgrade from OP12.

Mostly agree with the post. I have an OP15 as well. I very hard disagree with the cameras. It's a very noticeable downgrade from my Google Pixel 8 Pro.
