Summary

The Samsung Galaxy A56 5G is a solid mid-range phone that earns genuine praise for its battery life, smooth One UI 7 software experience, and premium build quality with Gorilla Glass Victus+ and IP67 rating. Reddit sentiment is largely positive for everyday users — social media, YouTube, casual browsing — but turns critical when value is considered: at MSRP of $499-$550, the community widely agrees it's overpriced, with most recommending waiting for it to drop to the $300 range where it genuinely shines. The phone is best suited for light-to-moderate users upgrading from older mid-rangers, but heavy users and gamers will hit its limits quickly.

Pros

  • Outstanding battery life reported across multiple threads — users regularly see 10+ hours of screen-on time, with some noting it outlasts the S25 FE
  • Polished One UI 7 on Android 15 with 6 years of OS and security updates, giving solid long-term value especially for users keeping phones 3-4+ years
  • Premium build for the price: Gorilla Glass Victus+ front and back, aluminum frame, IP67 water resistance — feels flagship-tier in hand
  • Smooth, lag-free daily performance for typical workloads: social media, multitasking between apps, streaming, and light gaming run without noticeable stutters
  • 45W fast charging on a 5,000mAh cell means quick top-ups without having to baby the battery
  • Camera performs well in daylight and for selfies/video — casual photographers and social media users report satisfaction with the results

Cons

  • Significantly overpriced at MSRP ($499-$550) — Reddit consensus is it's a $300 phone; at launch price you can get OnePlus 13R or Xiaomi 15T with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for similar money
  • No microSD card slot — a removal that frustrates users upgrading from A53/A54/A55 who relied on expandable storage, with no 512GB option available
  • Camera disappoints in low light and zoom beyond 2x — heavy post-processing muddies detail, and there's no telephoto lens; users coming from older flagships like S23U notice the step-down clearly
  • Thermal management is a real concern under sustained load: gaming and heavy multitasking cause noticeable warmth, especially in warmer climates
  • Virtual proximity sensor is unreliable — screen stays on during calls or fails to wake, a hardware compromise that persists across A-series generations
  • No charger included in the box, no wireless charging, and the under-display fingerprint reader is slower than the power button readers found on older models

Battery Life Is the Real Reason People Love It

Across dozens of threads, battery is the most consistently praised aspect of the A56 — users upgrading from S21 FE, A71, or iPhone XS all note the jump in endurance as the phone's standout feature, with many reporting comfortable all-day use even with data and 120Hz enabled.

Reddit's Verdict: Buy It at $300, Not $500

The A56's MSRP draws near-universal criticism on Reddit — commenters point out that competitors with flagship-tier chips cost the same or less at street price, and Samsung's own pricing strategy means this phone regularly drops to $300 within months of launch, which is where the community considers it genuinely good value.

The microSD Removal Is Still Making People Skip It

For a surprising number of users, the A56 was their intended upgrade until they discovered the microSD slot is gone — a decision that pushes heavy media users toward the A55 or competitor phones, and leaves those with large local storage needs with no 512GB configuration to fall back on.

Pros: Sturdy, premium build with Gorilla Glass Victus+, aluminum frame, IP67 rating. Brighter and bigger display with HDR10+ support. Decent performance, great thermal behavior. Excellent videos, great selfies. Nice speakers. Polished One UI, entitled to at least 6 generations of OS upgrades. Cons: No charger in the box, and not very fast to charge. Fingerprint reader not very fast. Underwhelming camera performance (except videos and selfies), no telephoto. The virtual proximity sensor.

I just realized today that my A52s is now 3.5 years old. So I checked what I could possibly upgrade to, and it surprised me that A56 is basically the same phone, just with the headphone jack missing. And they still keep the virtual proximity sensor which is probably the only thing that keeps bothering me on my phone.

There is a huge improvement in performance, screen brightness and battery life compared to the A52s. Rest is same.

Here in Brazil you can get the A56 for as low as 306 dollars, while the s24 fe costs 520 currently, and the cheapest it's been was around 455 dollars, that's a huge price difference so there's hardly any comparison to be made there, we don't have most chinese brands either, or the pixel, nothing, just the poco x7 and x7 pro, motorola which is not very price competitive, and other samsung phones, which makes this the best deal for a budget oriented phone.

This is basically a $300 phone priced at 500 for the Samsung brand.

500$? You can get OnePlus 13R with double the storage and Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for that kind of money.

You know its bad when even GSMArena admits that every other phone in its class does everything it does better.

I wish we could stop with the under display fingerprint reader. I miss the power button reader. So slick.

Download the latest software updates, get a charger of 45W-40W so you can get the best out of the speedy charging it provides, disable always on display since it will make the screen weak, get a good case and screen protector because the screen gets very scratchy and the back of the screen of glass can break very easily.

Approximately two weeks ago, I got an A56. Compared to my A53, from which I upgraded, the A56 feels more stable. The phone doesn't slow down while recording the screen, it is noticeably smoother (I haven't spotted any lags yet), and the phone's temperature is noticeably better.

It's a good phone. I've had one in Australia for a few weeks now. Price seems high though, I only paid AU$599 which converts to $390 US.

I bought a 256gb one from microcenter that was returned for $325. Honestly, it's a pretty decent little device. Good performance and battery life, no stuttering from my light usage. Doesn't have all the bells and whistles of an s25, but not everyone needs them. But $550 is a little steep.

Great phone, I have one from last week and can be easily one of the best smartphones I ever got, the 'premium' feeling is pretty strong and it's fast enough for my needs.

We recently got that phone for my mom. It's really decent. I'm glad mid-range SoCs run the Android UI smoothly nowadays.

I had the A54 for a few years, and it worked perfectly as my daily driver. The quality of the screen (OLED 120hz, 6.7") didn't make any difference on any website.

One UI 7/8 on the A56 is definitely the highlight. Samsung has finally optimized the A-series software to the point where it feels nearly as smooth as the S-series for daily tasks. With 45W charging finally on the A-series, the 5,000mAh cell tops up fast enough that you don't need to live in power-saver mode.

It overheats like crazy, especially in the summers. Would not recommend it if you're a heavy user/gamer. The battery does drain relatively fast, but if you switch the battery saver on, it will be enough to last the day. The camera is average (with sunlit photos being pretty good).

May be a downgrade from an iPhone, but I like my new A56. Very snappy with decent battery life and takes great photos.

My biggest gripe with the A series is the virtual proximity sensor. It fails to do its job so often that it is a big annoyance. Often you take the phone away from your ear and the screen is still off. Or you put it to your ear and it doesn't go off so you accidentally disconnect the call. Apart from that it is as good as the flagship models (I don't game).

I used Galaxy A34 before and before that I used Galaxy S21FE with SD888 and I am playing the same game in Galaxy A56 now but I am not facing any overheating issues. In fact it's cooler than A34 and S21FE.

Wanted the A56 to be my next phone but then I found out it does not have an SD card slot. Really unfortunate.

I went from S23U to A56. Battery life is way better, screen is great, fast enough for loads of browser tabs and a few apps open. Camera is OK in daylight, sucks in low light and with zoom. Overall it's great phone unless you want a flagship level camera.

Good phone, great battery that you forget about it. What I really hate, is the size, and the weight. It's too heavy for me coming from S10+.

Camera is good enough if you don't use the zoom. It has so much post processing that almost all the details get muddied if you go over x2 zoom. I just use it for reddit, discord, youtube, twitch, music and random browsing and it lasts a full day with battery range from 20% to 90% and data only.

It's a good phone overall, but if you really do a lot of multi-tasking and need the phone to handle it perfectly without any hiccups then look for another one. I have it, the 12/256 version, and it's stuttering a bit when switching between apps or opening new ones. And I don't think the situation will get better over time, since android gets heavier and heavier.

I've had an A56 for almost 6 months now, after daily driving an A71. Generally I feel it's a marked improvement over the A71 in most aspects. Only things that bugs me is it's worse at close up pics at 1x zoom, seems unable to focus, and the lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack. I roll with a USB-C 3.5mm converter, but the connection just isn't quite as secure as on 3.5mm.

I got mine recently after losing my uninsured iPhone 16! It's actually decent. If you do get it, check on YouTube for how to make the best out of it like mods on animation responses when opening and closing apps etc, camera quality, themes, apk files and it's a great phone. I know it's supposed to be a midrange phone but I feel it definitely lives up to my iphone16.

The battery life is amazing, at home I am getting 10-13 hours of SoT on a full charge. Cameras are fine, night photos are not that great though. The screen looks good and speakers are solid. It gets LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1, 6 years of updates, 45W charging speed. The phone tends to heat while playing games.

With normal use, the battery lasts all day for me. During a full day from 8 AM to 10 PM, I consume around 60%, 70% at most. I have no complaints, especially coming from an S21 FE, where it certainly didn't last long.

Bought one and returned on the same day. Camera is not good for the price and it has no real slow motion. My A53 was much better with SD Card reader and real slow motion. Samsung is abusing its market dominance to sell crap.

I used A51, A53 before and I am seeing a pattern with Samsung that Samsung compromises on build quality is increasing year by year. They also started to follow trapping methods similar to Apple. Back in the day Samsung was something else, now they are losing their true identity. This might be my last Samsung.

Pay the extra 27% for the Xiaomi 15T. For heavy social media multitasking, the Samsung A-series (likely Exynos chip) will struggle to keep apps open in the background compared to the Xiaomi's flagship-grade chip and extra RAM. The Samsung A-series is built for battery sipping, not heavy switching.

Both are great choice. Xiaomi 15T price increase is justified since it's better in everything compared to Samsung A56 except the OS. Both are solid choices, nothing goes wrong with picking either.

A56 will drop in price by the end of the year. The U.S. version was just released so its price is at max MSRP right now. Personally I feel it's a bad time to get it, it's not worth over 300.00.

I've bought it last week for €280, that's $320. The phone will get Android OS updates up to Android 21. The A54 only got 4 OS upgrades up to Android 17. For 320 dollar I think the A56 is definitely worth it.

Purchased this last week for Rs. 30,500 (256 GB variant, Olive Green). Bought it from Samsung online store with a special discount for corporate customers. For 30K, I think it is a very good phone.

I had an iPhone 13 and decided to get the A56. Imagine the regret. Besides overheating ridiculously, an iPhone X takes better photos.
