Summary

The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is a polarizing flagship that trades camera versatility and battery capacity for an extreme 5.8mm profile and 163g weight. Owners who've lived with it consistently report that the real-world feel is hard to convey through specs — people who handle it for the first time are visibly surprised, and many who dismissed it on paper end up buying one after going hands-on. The target audience is someone who wants a large-screen flagship without the brick-in-pocket feeling of the Ultra, and who has reliable access to a charger throughout the day. The biggest Reddit controversy is not whether the phone is pleasant to use — most agree it is — but whether Samsung intentionally skipped silicon carbon battery technology to save it for a future generation, making the Edge feel like a proof-of-concept at a flagship price.

Pros

  • Extreme portability for a large-screen phone: at 5.8mm and 163g, owners report that handing it to people gets immediate 'what phone is this?!' reactions, and it still feels startlingly light weeks after purchase
  • 200MP main sensor with titanium frame punches above its class — real-world photo comparisons against the base S25 favor the Edge on main camera quality, and 4x digital zoom from the 200MP sensor is usable for everyday shots
  • Battery life holds up better than specs suggest for moderate users: multiple owners coming from S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra report comfortably reaching end of day at 20–50% with normal usage patterns
  • Price has dropped significantly since launch — available in Europe for €650–€800 for 512GB, making the value proposition much stronger than the original $1,099 MSRP implied
  • Vapor chamber cooling and full Snapdragon 8 Elite (not a binned chip, despite some reviewer confusion), with One UI 7 and 7 major OS updates matching the rest of the S25 line
  • Large 6.7-inch 1440p display on a phone that weighs less than most competing 6.1-inch flagships — solves the long-standing tradeoff between screen size and portability

Cons

  • 3,900mAh battery without silicon carbon chemistry is the central Reddit complaint — Chinese brands are already shipping phones at this thickness with 5,200mAh+ using newer battery tech, making Samsung's choice look deliberate rather than impossible
  • Only 25W wired charging, slower than the S25 base (which supports 25W) and far behind the S25 Ultra (45W) — a small battery that charges slowly is a frustrating combination for power users
  • No telephoto lens at all — the dual-camera setup (200MP main + 12MP ultrawide) means any zoom beyond comfortable digital crop from the main sensor degrades quickly, a real limitation for travel and sports photography
  • Overheating reported under sustained load — Google Maps crashed for at least one reviewer, and sustained gaming pushes temperatures toward 55°C, which throttles performance and accelerates battery drain
  • Camera bump causes visible wobble on flat surfaces, and the bump's height somewhat undermines the thinness narrative — a case is effectively required for stability, adding back thickness
  • No anti-reflective coating (reserved for the Ultra), standard IP68 rather than the deeper submersion ratings on competing flagships, and no S Pen support — at $1,099 launch price, the omissions felt punishing

Owners Keep It. Skeptics Mock It. Who's Right?

A consistent pattern emerges across Reddit threads: people who buy the S25 Edge on paper are disappointed, but people who actually live with one for a week become converts. The lightweight feel changes daily carry habits in ways that spec sheets cannot capture.

Samsung Skipped Silicon Carbon — And Reddit Hasn't Forgiven It

The most upvoted criticism across multiple subreddits isn't the missing telephoto or the price — it's that Samsung had access to silicon carbon battery technology when the Edge launched and chose not to use it. Critics argue this decision made the Edge a deliberate sacrifice rather than a genuine engineering achievement.

The S25 Edge Is Already a Better Deal Than It Was at Launch

Reddit buyers who waited are paying €650–€800 for 512GB in Europe and around $815 in the US — a significant drop from the $1,099 debut. At these prices, the value debate shifts considerably, and users comparing it against the base S25 at equal pricing are increasingly recommending the Edge.

yeah, it's more than just super thin, it's also a galaxy phone that no-one asked for. i would gladly trade thinness for a beefy battery.

I bought a 512 at launch and ended up returning to Best Buy because I didn't feel it was worth the $1200 price tag. Ended up picking the one I returned opened box for $815 and I love it for that price.

This feels more like a 'we did the thin phone before the iPhone Air' device than a properly engineered thin phone with the tech to support it

What a dumb device. Compared to the Ultra you get a smaller battery, no telephoto cameras, no anti reflective screen, and a price that isn't much lower. Just spend the $150 extra and go with the ultra.

Nope it's not. The s25 ultra clearly is. You are justifying paying similar money to the ultra for basically worse hardware over the board aside from weight.

Too many people buy phones after looking at them for 2 minutes in the showroom. Phones end up optimized for those 2 minutes. Then they put a 5 bucks ugly ass super thick case on top.

I don't know why this phone is getting remotely positive reviews. It's an awful device. MrMobile recounted it died 3 times in one day from garbage battery life and google maps would crash from overheating. This is unacceptable for an $1100 phone in 2025. It doesn't even use the new battery technology. It's literally just an s25 and they removed 30% of the battery to make it thinner.

Pros: Unrivaled portability in this class (5.8mm thickness, 163g weight). Premium build with titanium frame. Raw performance is on par with the competition despite its size. Very pleasing and fluid One UI experience, DeX, 7 major OS updates. The main camera takes nice pictures. Cons: Small capacity battery, not the latest battery chemistry, comparatively slow charging. Speakers sound flat.

I personally love mine. I absolutely hate heavy and thick phones and always have, but want a bigger screen without the footprint. Sure, it may not have everything the ultra has, it may have a smaller battery also. With how accessible the ability to charge a phone is now days I don't care about a smaller battery because I can almost charge my phone anywhere if I need to.

All things considered, not a bad product. A couple of small tradeoffs for a slightly slimmer phone. Probably not for most people, but I'm sure anyone who buys it will love it.

Stop making phones thinner, instead give us more battery!

I would honestly get the edge. Also for this comparison the best thing you can do is get a feel for both these phones in person and then decide.

I'm convinced that 90% of the vocal majority is just hyperfixated on the spec sheet and nothing else. So what it's thin and light. Man, I've been waiting for a new thin&light high-end smartphone for ages! And the reviews posted on it so far suggest that the battery life won't be as much of an issue as everyone presumed.

I had a few customers that considered a bigger phone, but chose against because of the weight and the size in the pocket.

I understand every tradeoff except for the lack of Silicon Carbon battery. What's up with that? It could have been the equivalent of a 4500-5000 maH battery if they were using silicon carbon instead of lithium ion.

Using the edge right now coming from the s23 ultra and I'm gonna say it's amazing and worth every penny. It's so light and compact yet so visually stunning. The camera nerf is almost non existent and you barely feel its weight. It's great for on the go and to pair it with a tablet or a laptop to play your games and watch shows.

Got one for a little less than $600. Zero complaints. Absolutely love it and the lightweight is the cherry on top. It deserves much more love.

I honestly think this is just a test run to try and get the form factor right while they work on the battery tech. With the new batteries (silicon carbide) they can put a much larger capacity in it and keep it this same size.

that double camera bump is hideous. It basically means you need a case or else it'll wobble like crazy. However, if you get a case, the phone is no longer 'thin', thereby defeating its purpose.

Compared to regular S25, it's not a downgrade if they're the same price. The only thing the S25 has that's better is the telephoto lens. But the edge has much better main and ultra wide sensors. Battery is basically the same, the edge has a bigger screen with higher resolution, weighs the same, and is thinner.

My goodness... do any of the people leaving comments here actually have the phone? I DO, and I absolutely love it! I'm not a gamer; I use my phone mainly for email, WhatsApp, Facebook, and a few other apps. The battery lasts longer than my S23, and the phone is incredibly thin and light. I don't have huge hands and always wanted a larger screen without having to deal with a bulky, heavy Plus or Ultra model. This phone is perfect for me!

I've had a mobile phone for 30 years and gave up on premium phones a while ago due to weight, when you are semi retired and work from home on a phone a brick phone is a pita. Well done Samsung, ordered one.

I 100% agree, I love the S25 Edge and every time I pick it up, I'm amazed at how light it is. This is as someone who primarily uses an iPhone 16 Pro and also has a Z Fold7, which is also ridiculously thin and light for a foldable.

Awful price to specs ratio. Hobbled device for a slightly thinner device that nobody asked for. My S25 Ultra with a dbrand case already feels thin enough.

S25 Edge does clear every Galaxy phone. In my opinion. I've tried to love the s25 Ultra. As I know it's the hero phone from Samsung. It no doubt performs the best... but there were things that just pissed me off. The camera rings. The crappy haptics, most likely due to the S-Pen. Just the overall feel of the device in hand. Im 6'3 with pretty big hands. People, this phone is too cumbersome. I think we finally hit that point.

Loving mine so far after the first week. It was grossly overpriced when it came out, but it's down to €650 for the 256GB version in Germany, €700 for 512GB. It's a good deal now. Battery life is debatable. It's certainly enough for most people, just not the power users that need 10+ hours of SoT per day. Camera and video recording burn through the battery very quickly.

I got the S25 Edge and have been using it as my primary phone (not a reviewer). Yes, it's slim but the real beauty is how light it is. Especially when lying in bed on your back, it's really comfortable. After a week, my iPhone feels and looks like a brick. Not exaggerating because this is only something you will truly appreciate using it for at least a week as your daily.

It's been a month since I switched from the S24 Ultra to the S25 Edge, and I can say I absolutely love this phone. It's lighter, thinner, and has beautiful rounded corners. The battery is a downgrade, but the SOT is actually quite normal and not particularly short.

I picked up this phone and been in love with it ever since. The battery has been great, the camera has been great and the screen is top tier. That light feel of the titanium on the edge is hard to beat.

I run this beauty since 2 months. 789€ 512gb in germany. Its the best decision I've ever made. Wife has s25+. My battery is like the same! Pics are stunning. 10x zoom looks better on edge!

Very very happy. Lasts over twice as long as my old worn out s22 ultra and the super thin design just means you can use a case with a qi2 battery pack or even a battery case and it still be a reasonable size. I also prefer the angular design to my old s22 and the vastly better thermals.

For me, if it had a telephoto. Had the vivo x200 pro but through the poor weight distribution my hand started to hurt. So much so that I changed to the smaller pixel 9 pro. The edge has 162g which is insane. Big display but lightweight. I love it.

The edge is what made me switch from iPhone. 2nd week in and no regrets. Real life battery compared to 15 pro is slightly better. I'm super excited to share my news.

I just got the edge to replace my s23 ultra. I like how much lighter it is, but they should have used the silicon carbon battery or at least 45w charging. Last 2 days at work it made it through my 10 hour shift and I got home with 50% battery. Today I have off work and I've been using it a lot for web browsing, YouTube and some light games — took it off charger at 11am and it's 8:30pm with 34% battery. Good enough for my use case, but if you are a heavy user don't expect it to last all day without a charge.

I saw this in person at the store without knowing anything about it. After picking it up and holding it, I absolutely can see the appeal. Made my pixel 8 pro feel downright plump. That said, after seeing the battery capacity and charging speed, I absolutely don't see the appeal. If you are going to put a battery that small into the phone, at LEAST give us a way to quickly charge it.

I believe it wouldn't have gotten half the hate it did if the battery capacity was larger. Silicon-carbon tech wasn't unobtainium when the edge launched. Though, I can somewhat understand why Samsung is so careful about anything battery related.

I took the plunge and got it and so far it's been pretty solid, during a normal day while I'm at work battery life has been fine, gaming takes a huge hit at battery which literally every other phone has but otherwise I've had no issues with the S25 Edge.

If the edge had the new carbon batteries I don't think it would be getting this hate. The problem is that for the specs it is way way overpriced. It should slot in between the base 25 and 25 plus. No anti reflective coating and no 45 watt charging for $1100 is asinine imo.

I just went for the edge because the price was right. I had people warning me about the battery life and the lack of three lenses on the back. I've just come from an iPhone 15 pro which may be the worst battery life for a phone I have ever owned. As for the camera, I'm very much enjoying the cameras. While the three lens cameras are nice these have been amazing for the little bit that I've been using them.

Just try it. If you can get your hands on one, get yourself one and keep it for 3 days. Come back and slap me if you didn't fall in love. I came to this straight from s25+ which I also loved.

Compared to s23, the battery is better, I don't stress about charging it at all. Charging it once in a day or max two is enough. The camera could be better. In bright areas, when not zooming in the pictures and videos look great. But in dark areas it starts to struggle a bit, and yeah, without a telephoto cam the zoomed images don't look good. Overall I don't regret my purchase at all.

My last S22+ was way too heavy and large for my hands and I was happy to upgrade to a thinner lighter phone. Acting like there's no market for thinner phones even for the sake of a little battery is definitely ridiculous, many of us will take that deal.
