Summary

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 has won over a solid base of daily users who love its cover screen improvements, refined hinge, and the sheer novelty of a modern flip form factor — but it's not without genuine trade-offs. The phone draws strong praise from iPhone switchers and longtime Android users alike, with many highlighting how much more useful the expanded cover screen is compared to previous generations. The camera is the most consistently cited weak point, with users across multiple threads flagging it as a step behind competing flagships at this price. Battery life gets mixed-to-decent marks — most users report getting through a full day, though heavy users notice the limits. Overall sentiment skews positive for those who knew what they were buying, and more critical from those expecting full flagship performance in every category.

Pros

  • Cover screen is a genuine generational leap — users switching from Flip 5 and Flip 6 consistently describe it as a 'next level' experience, with improved software (GoodLock + MultiStar), larger real estate, and native app support making it useful rather than just a notification mirror
  • Hinge and build quality improvements are noticeable — the crease is much less visible than older generations, the hinge feel is smoother, and multiple users report surviving concrete drops without damage; JerryRig durability tests cited favorably
  • Battery life is adequate to good for most users — former iPhone users report comparable or better life than an iPhone 16 Pro on moderate use, and many get 8–10 hours SOT with proper setup using adaptive battery and routines
  • Performance is smooth on Exynos 2500 — users who bought the phone don't notice the Exynos disadvantage in daily use, describing One UI 8 as 'buttery smooth' even compared to Snapdragon S24 models
  • Form factor is genuinely unique — the phone folds to wallet size and fits in pockets where slab phones won't; praised particularly by users with small hands and those tired of large brick phones
  • Highly customizable through Samsung ecosystem — GoodLock, Routines, MultiStar, and Galaxy Enhance-X unlock features that make this feel like a different tier of device, especially for cover screen utility

Cons

  • Camera is a clear weak link at this price — no telephoto lens, and multiple users switching from Pixel or S-series Ultras describe a noticeable drop in quality, especially in low light; some users keep a second phone just for photos
  • Inner screen is fragile — the polymer display can be scratched or dented by fingernails, and at least one user had an AT&T store tech damage it during screen protector installation; Samsung's warranty coverage on screen damage is a recurring complaint
  • Exynos 2500 modem is weaker than Snapdragon — the Flip 7 uses a different SoC than the Fold 7, resulting in reportedly weaker cellular signal; one user confirmed returning to their S25 Ultra partly for this reason
  • Overheating under sustained load — particularly when using the cover screen for extended gaming or video; thermal throttling reported while playing games like Balatro on the front screen, though opening the phone helps dissipate heat quickly
  • Unfolded size is larger than many expected — at 75mm wide and quite tall when open, users with small hands find one-handed use uncomfortable; the Flip 7 is wider than the Flip 6, which some users consider a regression for compactness
  • Samsung's warranty handling is a recurring frustration — multiple users across threads report Samsung refusing to cover cracking or screen damage under warranty, citing 'user error' for defects that appeared within months of normal use

The Cover Screen Finally Delivers

Reddit users upgrading from the Flip 5 or Flip 6 almost universally call the cover screen experience a genuine improvement — not just in size, but in software maturity. With GoodLock and MultiStar, many users report handling 70–80% of their tasks without ever opening the phone.

Is $1,000+ Justified When the Camera Lags This Far Behind?

The most consistent criticism across r/samsung and r/galaxyzflip is the camera. Users coming from Pixels, S-series Ultras, or even the iPhone 16 Pro describe a noticeable quality gap — particularly at night — and several admitted they carry a second device just for photos.

iPhone Switchers Are Loving It More Than Longtime Samsung Fans

An unexpected pattern in the threads: longtime iPhone users switching to the Flip 7 tend to be more satisfied than Samsung power users downgrading from the S25 Ultra or Fold series. For Apple converts, the customization, cover screen, and form factor feel revolutionary. For Ultra users, the camera and battery gaps feel like clear regressions.

I've had it since July 25th. it's my first flip phone. I switched from s24. I loved it so much. everything is great. exnos chips? can't even tell the difference because the performance is buttery smooth. the crease? I felt a lil barely any thing on the screen. it's there but you'd really have to try to feel it to notice. the battery last a full day. the only thing I'd complain is the camera.

I 100% love the flip7. Had the flip6 before, this is a entire new league. Outside screen is just next level also so small bezels just looks great. Also the software for the outside screen finally very good. Have the razr 60 ultra as well to decide which one I like most. Ending up selling the razr keeping the flip 7. Also the inner screen now a bit wider, finally feels like a normal phone compared to noticeably more narrow razr and flip6.

For me, personally, it's fantastic folded, but when it's opened it's just a tad too tall for me. I love its width and I'm really glad they increased that to be more like a normal candybar style phone. I just wish it weren't as high up.

Got my z flip late August. Have had it for about 4 months now. Went from iPhone 12 to z Flip 7. Camera is noticeable worse, but besides that nothing crazy. I don't notice the crease in the phone's center like at all. I have a few scrapes/dents on inner screen screen protector so just letting you know it's very fragile. Even those, I hardly notice. I installed a fold tracker and it says so far I've folded this phone 1,223 times. It's doing well for me.

I pre-ordered mine so I've had it since July 24 and was so excited to flip! I came from a S24 Ultra. There's so much customization you can do with the front screen and on Samsung in general and I had a lot of fun making it mine. The click when you fold it closed brings me back to the flip phone days. I have had zero issues with it at all. Battery lasts the full day, the crease is hardly noticeable unless you run your fingers over it.

Had Flip 6 for a year, switched to flip 7. Hinge feels better than ever, no sticky sound when opening phone. Battery is great. I turn off adaptive battery, after reading someone saying that you dont need it if you always basically do the same stuff on your phone. My battery has been lasting 20-30% longer ever since. I had this flip 7 since launch, no bubbles.

I went from a s22 to a flip 7. I've had the flip since it came out and I really like it. Battery life is a lot better than my old s22. Camera quality is fine, when it is dark outside it isn't always the best quality but that does not bother me. It definitely is not worse than the s22. In proper lighting the camera is better than the s22.

I wouldn't rely on a flip as your primary phone. There's a known issue with inner-screen longevity, so you may get lucky, or you may be stranded without a functional phone when an internal component comes apart. Mine lasted five months. Some last days and some last years. I loved my 6, but I'm personally waiting until the structural issues are directly addressed by Samsung before trying again.

I hate it. There is nothing wrong with it, but it's such a down grade from my s24 ultra. Battery life, the camera, it's slow. And it gets super hot, on change or just while using. Don't recommend.

This phone has been perfect for my middle ground between nostalgia and modern tech. Using the front screen kind of reminds me of holding my blackberry back in high school.

I'm a small phone gal and came from the iphone 13 mini, and it's massive by comparison when unfolded. But I was sick of charging my mini 3 times a day and at least can use a lot of apps on the cover screen, plus it fits better in small pockets than even regular-sized phones. I like that it's a small phone when I want it and bigger when I need that as well, but overall I just wish it were maybe like 3/4 of its height.

Just switched from an iPhone and 100% agree with all this. That and the customization and optimization is 1000x better.

The cellular signal difference between the Flip and Fold this time is actually real. Flip 7 got Exynos 2500 SoC which has a different modem which is weaker. Fold 7 got Snapdragon 8 Elite which has the usual Snapdragon modem which is usually the best one on the market.

I've had the flip 7 since it came out, coming from a pixel the battery life is definitely less, but honestly fine unless you're a pretty heavy user. The flip 7 will overheat and thermal throttle if using for prolonged periods closed (using front screen for extended periods). I've noticed this when playing Belatro on my cover screen, if you open it up it'll cool quick and performance will increase. If you use it open I've not noticed any heat issues.

I went from note20 ultra to Flip 7, and my experience has been great so far. I average 7-9hrs screen on time so battery is pretty good for me, though, I don't do a lot of gaming. I ended up getting Spigen tough armor pro case with the spigen magsafe phone grip ring strap, and it works great for my small hands. Never feel like I'm going to drop it. Camera quality is also good imo, I especially love it for taking family photos and nature in good lighting.

In my experience flip 7 is quite sturdy compared to the previous gen or even other brand. There is no creaking on the hinges also. The battery life is okay, nothing spectacular but not terrible either. The camera isn't that bad it's just not comparable to other option within the same price point.

I've had flips for the last several years and never had any issues. Currently using my Flip 7 as my daily without a case and haven't had any major issues. I dropped it off of a bench, with the phone closed, onto concrete and the only damage was a scuff on the top left corner where it landed. You can absolutely feel the durability with this phone.

I also switched from iphone (I wanna say 13) to z flip 7 in August. Are you adjusting your camera settings? I feel like this takes farrrrrrr better pics than my iPhone did. I can take my selfies with the back cam and they just come out so crispy. I take only with portrait, the default cam needs a bit of work.

Came from iPhone after 10+ years; last one I've had was the 14 Pro before making the switch to the Flip 7 over a month ago, and i'm obsessed with this phone. I had android in high school (Note 3) so the UI wasn't too different or difficult for me to figure out, but I love it. I definitely suggest a case, a screen protector for the cover screen and maybe Samsung Care.

I've had mine since October. Its my first Samsung, I was a full-time Apple user. I love it. I bought it to use my phone less and it absolutely helps using the cover screen as first stop on my phone. Aside from the form factor, I feel duped that I wasn't on the Android system earlier. So many customization options and no duh features (gestures, split screen, split audio) that should have been on iphones long ago. The only drawback for me is photo quality.

I will be getting the s26 when it comes out because I really really miss my camera. I've found myself taking a significantly lower amount of pictures since I got the flip 7. It's a cool concept but you do lose a lot. My phone also gets extremely hot, to the point where it doesn't let me use Google maps and Battery isn't the best.

I also switched from the 16 pro to the flip 7. I love turning the phone sideways and using split screen to read reddit and watch youtube at the same time. I love my flip. I am struggling to adjust to the keyboard cause on my iphone i can text really fast and on the flip it seems the keyboard has a lag issue when i do that which causes me to have alot of mispelled words.

I've been enjoying my Flip 7 so much! Coming from iPhone too. I get good battery life and the cameras get the job done. I'm not shooting photos for NatGeo, so it really doesn't matter for me if the Ultra has a better camera or if a Pro Max is better. I love the cover screen and the flip mode, and that's why I chose this phone.

Yup. One of my biggest gripes with the flip and fold. Their inner screens dent if you press hard enough with fingernail or anything sharp enough. They need to stop trying to make things thinner and work on making it sturdier. Make it water and dustproof too. Bigger better battery and make the front screen more user and app friendly.

Had to get replacements twice already and I babied the shit out that phone. I'm about done with these soft phones — not even a week or 2 and the screen was making noise when I close it. Ridiculous.

I'm loving it! Came from an S22, I love the front cover screen and find i can use it for about 80% of stuff so generally picking up my phone less. With a decent magsafe case it's so nice on stands on my desk / car too. No regrets here.

I had the flip 7 for a few weeks but I noticed that the main screen would get scratched/dented easily either from my nails or whatever else. I gave it some thought and realized that long term, any flip phone wouldn't work for my lifestyle. I didn't want to worry too much if I dropped it, worry about the screen breaking, etc. I returned it and got the s25 ultra.

I do like the phone, but my battery is drained very quickly and I don't use it as much as you'd think. I have done all tricks and tips but nothing has helped. I feel it is also important to note that the screen is really soft, so finger nails can leave indents.

Get my flip 7 in July. Traded in a flip 4. Loved the flip 4, but love the flip 7 for more. The 7 is better in every way I can think of. Fits even better in my pocket camera is a lot better. Cover screen so much better. No issues so far. Love it and would get it again.

I had a flip 5 that developed a black lcd bleed in the crease. Samsung did not cover it as they claimed it was due to user damage. Excuse me? Opening and closing is user damage? I'll never buy another one.

My Flip 7 definitely doesn't feel as compact and good to use as my previous Flip 6 when folded. My main reason for buying the Flip is because I hate big phones. 80% of the time I use the Flip, I have it closed and use the cover screen - which is the reason I bought a Flip in the first place. Unfortunately, the larger width and length - but especially width - of the Flip 7 starts to really give the phone less of that compact feeling that the Flip 6 and prior are so beautifully known for.

I picked mine up in early August, I came over from an S23 ultra. I am loving the zflip 7. The ability to answer a call with the phone closed and then go straight to speaker is highly convenient. Being able to access the apps while the phone is closed especially Google wallet is very nice. My only issue with the phone is the front touch screen can be hard to use especially on the edges and corners.

I loved it for the first 2 months but soon after i found myself constantly having to open up the phone to use it as I would like. The photos weren't as good as my old Pixel 6. I loved the compact size and novelty of the phone however I eventually decided to sell my 7 and buy a Pixel 9A. Haven't looked back since.

don't bother, I bought it and returned twice. if you are from a block phone you won't like it once the honeymoon phase ends. after a week of honeymoon phase you will be left with a low battery phone that is thicker on pocket. and a bit annoying to use, You have to unflip the phone to access certain apps.

My mom got hers 6 months ago and hasn't dropped it and the center of the inside screen cracked right down the middle of the crease and the screen stopped working Samsung wouldn't cover it over warranty so be cautious.

Do not get a flip. Samsung doesn't honor warranty. My flip 6 developed a yellow green line in crease one day as I was scrolling. They claimed it had damage and wouldn't fix it without paying nearly 400 dollars. Will never buy a Samsung product again because of it. Phone is in excellent condition less than 7 months old.

I could've written this post myself. I also just switched from my 16 pro after 15 years of iPhone. I love it. I really needed a change and im having fun. I still have my iPhone. I can go back anytime. Right now im happy with the flip. There's a nostalgic comfort to it.

Mine randomly stopped working the other day, half the screen went black and top is green and pixilated. Loved it till then, have had it since mid August and no drops or anything crazy like that, Samsung said its most likely a software glitch and I have to send it to them now.
