Summary

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is being called a genuine leap forward by long-time foldable owners, with the combination of extreme thinness, a finally-usable outer display, and flagship-grade internals winning over users who had written off the Fold line after earlier generations. Sentiment across r/GalaxyFold and r/Android skews strongly positive, with most criticism directed at the same two pain points: a small 4400mAh battery and a slow 25W charging rate that feel unacceptable at the $2000 price point. The inner screen excels for reading, multitasking, and productivity use cases, but the aspect ratio leaves video content with large black bars — a persistent flaw. Durability anxiety remains a real factor for potential buyers, though existing owners report the phone is sturdier than its thin build suggests. This is a phone for power users and foldable enthusiasts who can justify the premium; casual users who mostly use the outer screen are realizing they may have been better served by a slab flagship.

Pros

  • Dramatically thinner and lighter than previous Folds — users coming from the Fold 4, 5, or 6 describe it as feeling like a different category of device, with the folded form factor now matching a regular slab phone in hand
  • Outer display is finally genuinely usable, wide enough for one-handed typing and comfortable enough that many users report staying on the cover screen most of the day without feeling compromised
  • 200MP main camera marks a real upgrade for a foldable — action shots, pet photos, and indoor shots show clear improvement over prior Fold generations, matching other 2025 Android flagships in bright light
  • Inner screen is exceptional for reading-intensive tasks: PDFs, e-books, comics, legal documents, and multitasking all benefit massively from the large display; several users say it has replaced their tablets entirely
  • Snapdragon 8 Elite (overclocked) delivers top-tier performance with no thermal throttling complaints, even for demanding tasks like PS3 emulation and video editing
  • Build quality inspires confidence in daily use — despite durability anxiety from prospective buyers, owners consistently report surviving drops and heavy use without damage when paired with a case

Cons

  • 4400mAh battery and 25W charging are the dominant complaints across all threads — at $2000, users compare this unfavorably to competitors like the OnePlus 13 and Chinese flagships that offer 5000mAh+ with 80W+ charging
  • S Pen support was completely removed to achieve the thinner profile — a dealbreaker for a vocal segment of power users who bought into the Fold line specifically for stylus functionality
  • Inner screen aspect ratio is poor for video: 16:9 and 21:9 content produces large black bars, meaning the actual viewing area is barely larger than a standard slab phone in landscape mode
  • Factory screen protector on the inner display continues to peel and lift after 8–18 months of use — a consistent issue across Fold 3 through 7 generations with no clear fix from Samsung
  • Camera system falls short at zoom: the telephoto performs poorly beyond 5-10x, and low-light and fast-moving subject shots trail competitors like the Pixel 9 Pro and S25 Ultra; some users carry a second phone for serious photography
  • IP48 rating (dust resistance limited) is a real-world limitation — owners in dusty, sandy, or industrial environments explicitly cannot use this phone, while competitors like the rumored Pixel 10 Pro Fold target IP68

Owners Say the Crease Is a Non-Issue — the Battery Is Another Story

First-time buyers worried about the visible fold line consistently report it disappears in actual use within days. What doesn't disappear is the frustration with 25W charging on a $2000 device — users describe watching a nearly full battery crawl to 100% as the single most jarring compromise on otherwise premium hardware.

The Fold 7 Is the Best Foldable Available in the US — Which Is Exactly the Problem

Reddit users openly acknowledge that the Oppo Find N5 and Honor Magic V5 match or beat the Fold 7 on battery, charging, stylus support, and camera zoom — but neither sells officially in the US market. Samsung's real competition is being blocked at the border, which makes the Fold 7's pricing feel like a captive audience tax to many.

People Who Actually Use the Inner Screen Love It. Many Fold 7 Owners Don't Use the Inner Screen.

A recurring pattern in Fold 7 owner posts: buyers discover they use the cover screen for 70–90% of their daily tasks and only unfold for specific use cases. Several users have already traded or plan to trade for an S25 Ultra or S26 Ultra, concluding that the foldable form factor requires a very specific usage profile — heavy reading, multitasking, or tablet replacement — to justify itself.

The poor dust resistance is the kicker for me. Thing will die just being in my pockets.

Isn't the price basically what it was for the 6?

Funny how they claimed they had to drop S-Pen support to make it thinner. Why then does the OPPO Find N5 have full OPPO stylus support on both external and internal screens while still being as thin as the Fold 7? Samsung is gaslighting the industry...

I've been INSANELY impressed by this thing in the past few days I've had mine. This really does feel like a great evolution towards what the initial dream of a "foldable" phone was.

It's not mixed. It's mostly positive since the ones with issues complain and the ones without are happily using it. The z fold is easy to recommend now especially if you're tired of samey slab style phones. The thinness and cover screen is such a big improvement it made me change my mind from not wanting a fold after the fold 4 felt mediocre.

Price and durability always get me. I get it won't be average smartphone price but a full 1K more, I just can't agree with. We are seven generations in and still have a screen with a visible crease and using it still feels fragile. I think durability loss is just the devil you get with something like this.

I'd much rather have had a thicker foldable with more battery life, the internal camera in a corner, and S-Pen support for a more agreeable price point.

Hopefully they bring back stylus support some day, because I'm going to be pretty sad if there's no foldables in the US that support it when I'm ready to upgrade from my Fold 6.

This is convincing me towards getting it. I haven't been super interested in jumping into a foldable full time but videos like this are pushing that closer to reality.

I've just passed two years on my fold 5 and am going back to a slab phone once my contract is up. The only thing I've had issues with is my screen protector starting to lift. Can spend $1000 less without the durability risks for any other non foldable flagship — that's a no brainer.

It wasn't until the 7 that I actually realized them changing the ratio up front actually keeps me from unfolding it less — making the outside display more user friendly has made this almost a perfect fold design. Love it.

Did the Fold 6 have the screen protector lifting at the fold issue as well? I had a fold 3 and loved it, but the screen protector lifted after about a year. I had it replaced by Samsung and it lifted again within a month and the next one wouldn't be a warranty replacement so I traded it in. I really loved the phone, but I don't want a ticking timebomb like that again.

Enjoying mine, I just wish Samsung would take battery tech seriously. 4400mah and 25w charging isn't acceptable in 2025.

Absolutely love my Fold 7. The only gripe I have is the camera, but I carry an S25 Ultra alongside the Fold. If I'm taking a photo or video of something I know I will want in the best possible quality, I'll swap to the S25U. Outside of that, I'm like a kid again.

I do like my fold 7, it feels more durable than I thought it would be. It has so many ways to customize it, buuuuuuut, I'm finding out how little I actually open it and use it as a tablet. When the s26 ultra comes out, I will probably trade my fold 7. If you intend to open it and use it as a tablet, unlike me, you can't go wrong. Great phone!

I just got one and honestly I don't think I'll ever go back to normal phone. This thing is absolutely amazing. It feels amazing in hand, it's light and bit narrower than normal phone so it's much easier. It's a joy using this phone.

No removable battery, no SD Card, no Spen, no UDC, no iris scan. I wouldn't say OG Samsung is back. They're pushing power users to the fringes. I'm excited that Apple is entering the folding market, maybe samsung will start innovating.

I'd say the battery is pretty awesome. I had a s22 ultra and battery was awful, I have a work iphone 14 plus and battery is awful too — my zfold can handle all day and still get 30% before I go to sleep.

48 hours into a fold 7 after 8 years with apple. Overwhelmed by the configurations and capability. Love the form factor, love the design, notice the crease way less than I thought I would. Battery life and charging is not where it should be on a 1900 dollar phone. Full stop.

The bad things are apparent when you purchase the phone and if they aren't things you're willing to deal with, don't get it. If you're a power user, you'll need an external battery bank, the battery dies fast. It's a super thin phone, so the speakers are not the best, the durability is lower than a normal phone, and app support is getting better but still has some issues.

Love my Fold 7. People complain about the battery life, but I get a good 2 days of use. Just flew back from Rome and watched movies the whole way back. Had plenty of juice when I finally got back home. People complain about the camera, but I got some amazing photos of Rome, Florence etc. Others who've seen the photos even remark on how great they are.

Durability and lack of an in built pen are the deal breakers for me. I use the pen every hour of every day for work. So not having that is also another major issue.

I love it. Functions like any other phone from my perspective with the added benefit of the folding screen and only drawbacks being marginally worse battery life and worse zoom quality compared to my old S23 Ultra. There are times that I go days without unfolding the device because I have no significant need to, but when I use the inner screen I can't get over how helpful it is.

I've had z fold 4 since release. No issue for me. Replaced inner screen protector after 2 years for free and no issue still. Only upgrade for me next is trifold when it becomes cheaper.

I've had this phone for 2 months and it's cool but battery is the deal breaker for me. Once you've been spoiled with phones that have larger batteries everything else no matter how more high tech it is, just starts becoming a trade off. I find myself utilizing the front screen more than the interior one. It does have a very cool factor. Every time I bust it open people are always asking questions.

Have had Z folds since ZF4. Now rocking the 7 since last summer. No case, have dropped it multiple times, no issues. Same for my previous ones. If anything, these phones don't get enough credit for how durable they really are.

I had the same anxiety 2 years ago when I got my Fold 5. They are much more durable than you would think. I always carry mine in a case, but I've dropped it a number of times and use it like I would use any other slab phone. When I occasionally remove the case to clean it, the phone still looks as good as new. The only issue I had was the inner screen protector that started to peel off from the bottom after 1 year.

Camera is terrible unless you're in extremely good light or you're taking pictures of stationary subjects. Battery life not perfect but good enough. Speakers are average for music and phone calls, you definitely need headphones.

I love it! Switched from iPhone 14 Pro. As a kindle girlie I love my kindles but the kindle app on this phone is epic! Big screen with Continuous Scrolling. Battery lasts me all day and I have it capped at 80% charging.

The Fold 7 is the first of Samsung's lineup that looks ready for everyday usage for the average person when comparing it to the other top flagship phones on the market. Now they just need to work on pricing and I think more people will start jumping over.

Who asked for no S Pen support? That was literally the only thing making me buy a Samsung fold and for the first time since years I will not update my fold because I use the S Pen everyday. I remember people asking for S Pen on cover and inner display, so no they didn't listen.

Lesson from the owner of every generation of Fold: NEVER USE LENS-CLEANING WIPES. Ever. Those wipes very slowly break down the adhesive layer underneath the screen protector. Use dry microfiber only. Since figuring this out, I've had zero issue.

I'm really glad they got an overclocked 8 Elite in this thing. While other manufacturers use a less powerful chipset for their foldables.

I just got a Fold 7 1tb version and love it. I had a Fold 5 in the past and found it too chunky. This is great! Can't get over how thin it is opened up.

The fold 4 was great and easily the best phone I've had until the fold 7. With the fold 7 in one hand and the fold 4 in the other, the fold 4 feels like a device that's literally 10 years behind. It's comparably heavy and very thick. The fold 7 is just what I've always dreamt about having since I saw the fold — a normal phone that folds outwards with no compromises.

I love my Fold 7, my favourite Fold model I have used so far (had Fold 3, Flip 2, Flip 5 and Fold 6). The light weight and thin body makes everyday handling a joy to use. Battery life is pretty good — I get around 7-8hrs SOT using the phone folded and unfolded. I really like the 200mp main camera, I get some really lovely shots even indoors and low light.

Only get it if you truly find a use case for the inner display which is the main advantage of this phone. If not, the phone is not even close to the iPhone 17 Pro Max in terms of the battery life, cameras, thermal management, speakers, haptics and durability. I bought this phone at launch and definitely feel that the outer display is too narrow while the aspect ratio of the inner display is not good for video watching.

Is the Fold 7 for everyone? No, but it's a phone with a remarkable folding display that's very high quality. Great for multitasking. The Fold 7 is the first fold I have ever purchased because I was waiting for some refinements. It is very nice to have the fold in my pocket and open it up for multitasking or watching content.

I'm coming from a OnePlus 13 and was really expecting the battery life to be less than mediocre but I was getting 5-6 hrs screen on time and maybe a day or just over of usage. Tweaked my settings a bit and been getting 6-8 now. My bigger gripe is charging speed — over an hour 0-100 and honestly it feels like a crawl if you actually decide to use it even for light tasks.

Went from an iPhone 12 PM to the Fold 6 then immediately 7 when it came out. Going from the 6 to 7 felt like a massive jump because it's more usable when closed and lighter. Reading anything off it feels amazing — I even prefer it over my iPad mini.

I had it for 2 months and returned it because of battery life. Now I have the S25 Ultra and I get pretty much the same battery life so I'm thinking of going back to the Fold 7.
