Summary

The Hisense U65QF is a 2025 Mini-LED TV that has generated genuine excitement among real users, particularly for its jaw-dropping HDR brightness and vivid color saturation at a competitive price point. Reddit sentiment skews positive, with owners frequently describing it as a revelation compared to older 1080p sets and praising its built-in subwoofer as a standout feature that reduces the need for a soundbar. The TV runs Amazon's Fire TV OS, which divides opinion — some users find it perfectly adequate while others prefer Google TV and consider it a meaningful downgrade. It's widely seen as a strong value pick for casual watchers and HDR movie fans, but some power users and enthusiasts raise concerns about QA consistency, motion processing, and EOTF accuracy. Compared to the TCL QM6K, most real-world owners lean Hisense for brightness and color punch, while the TCL edges ahead for black levels and gaming accuracy.

Pros

  • Exceptional HDR brightness that genuinely impresses users upgrading from older LED sets — multiple owners describe it as a jaw-dropping leap forward
  • Vivid, punchy color reproduction that beats the TCL QM6K in side-by-side comparisons according to in-store and at-home testers
  • Built-in subwoofer provides surprisingly capable built-in audio, with users reporting they skipped buying a soundbar entirely
  • Available in multiple sizes (55", 65", 75", 100") with 144Hz panel support for smoother motion across gaming and general content
  • Competitive pricing — often found at Costco around $549 for the 65", making it one of the better value Mini-LEDs at this tier
  • Anti-glare performance on the 100" variant draws praise; matte finish handles reflections well in brighter rooms

Cons

  • Fire TV OS is divisive — no Google TV option on standard retail variants, and users note the interface carries more ads compared to competing smart platforms
  • Quality control inconsistency flagged by r/HTBuyingGuides and some owners — at least one user experienced repeated shutdowns within 10 days and had to return the unit
  • Black levels and blooming can be problematic with certain content, especially on Disney+ Dolby Vision material where crushed darks are frequently mentioned
  • The 75" variant ships with an ADS Pro panel rather than VA, which affects contrast and black level performance compared to smaller sizes
  • Motion handling is considered below par by enthusiasts — r/HTBuyingGuides explicitly flags Hisense's processing as underperforming relative to Rtings scores in real-world use
  • No anti-reflective matte coating on the 65" and 75" models — the 100" has it, but standard sizes show room reflections in bright environments

Fire TV Is the Deal-Breaker for Some Buyers

Unlike most Hisense U6 variants, the U65QF ships exclusively with Amazon's Fire TV OS at major retailers — a recurring friction point. Users who value Google TV's app ecosystem or are coming from a Google-based setup frequently cite this as the reason they hesitated or switched to the TCL QM6K instead. One common workaround mentioned: pair the Hisense with an Onn 4K Pro streamer and get the best of both worlds.

Owners Say It Beats the TCL QM6K on Color — With One Caveat

Multiple users who tested both TVs in-store or at home consistently rate the U65QF higher on brightness and color vibrancy. The trade-off is EOTF accuracy and black level performance, where the TCL pulls ahead. For everyday casual viewing, the Hisense wins the showroom floor. For dark-room cinephiles, the TCL's contrast advantage is hard to ignore.

The 75" Version Has a Different Panel — And That Matters

Buyers eyeing the 75" size should know Rtings reviewed the 65" with a VA panel, but the 75" U65QF uses an ADS Pro panel. That swap affects contrast ratio and black level characteristics in ways that are meaningful for dark-room viewing. Reddit users comparing panel specs are flagging this as an important distinction that online reviews often gloss over.

I was in the exact same boat last year. Upgraded from a 55" 1080p to a 65" 4K and thought it was massive... for about a month. Then that 'should've gone bigger' itch started. I ended up swapping it for a 75" and it was the best decision ever. The immersion for movies and games is on another level.

Currently have had the 65" u65qf for the past month. Really great overall and friends constantly comment on how vibrant and high quality it is. The FireTV interface isn't that bad (I use Plex, YouTube, and Twitch). Only downside is that it sometimes it is like blindingly bright but that's better than alternative of it being super dim.

This tv is considered as low-mid end of the bunch. I can't imagine your reaction to u88qg.

The qm6k pro from costco has a glossy screen, it might have bad reflections. I just got a non pro qm6k and I'm happy with it.

Going from a 5-year-old TV to a U6 Mini-LED is a massive leap. Enjoy your new setup!

I have a U7K. Just setup my dad's U55QF. The Fire TV OS is a noticeable step down from Google. I'd actually say U6N unless you're playing games and need 144Hz high frame rate.

Having had two Hisense televisions last less than three years I am not real high on their build quality. I have replaced one of them with a TCL QM7K. Too soon to tell though.

I purchased the 65" Panasonic W95A TV for my parents and I was honestly surprised by how great it was. I am an OLED snob and I personally stayed away from MiniLED TVs because I don't like blooming and crave inky black levels. After I set up the TV and started messing with the picture settings, I was blown away by how great the TV was. I hardly noticed ANY blooming.

I would rather do a 75" QM7K than a 65" QM8K — you get extra brightness and color but it's not worth the drop in immersion.

The hisense is better than the QM6K if you don't care about nerdy stuff such as EOTF accuracy, gaming at 1080P 240 HRZ, and Google TV but other than that the hisense is brighter, more colorful due to the lower accuracy, and in my opinion generally better overall in most things, unless you care a lot about accuracy and gaming at 1080P 240 HRZ which i doubt you'll use. Go for the Hisense.

The TCL looked a tad better but it also had a more glossy screen which means reflections which I just can't live with. Looked good in the store but at home might be a problem.

My current TV is Google TV. I personally hate it and FireTV is one of the reasons I went for the Hisense. People always complain about the fire TV having ads but in my opinion Google TV is way worse. I do want to game at 1440p 120hz VRR so it should have that covered. I think I made the right decision.

Hisense. TCL is good but they are more pastel in color. And HISENSE has GREAT Speaker. YOU do NOT need to buy Sound bars. YOU can Save up money buy something else. TCL has horrendous sound.

I currently waiting for delivery of u65qf from costco for $549. Previously had two qm6k pro but returned them because they both could not properly connect to soundbar, including Their own tcl. Also I was always tinkering with brightness as it was lacking it in certain dark movies.

I like mine, had near perfect uniformity. Motion handling is good, I checked hockey game on youtube and fast moving objects are ok.

I prefer the Hisense on both contrast and colors, but the brightness of your room may be something to consider.

I have a 55" U6N and it's been a great TV. I was disappointed when I saw the QF was going to be FireTV only as mine is Google TV but as far as picture quality and brightness the U6 is great and hard to beat for the money.

I just upgraded to the U65QF from a Samsung NU6900 and the difference in quality I'm getting from a $400 55" tv is blowing me away. I didn't even know I could get a tv that looks this good without spending almost $1,000.

Got my first ever hisense tv 2 weeks ago and im experiencing constant shutdowns within 3 minutes of turning on. I literally tried everything I could find in google or chatGPT nothing works. I sent it back under warranty see what they say. Not a great first time experience with Hisense. I wish i did spent a bit more on LG or samsung.

I ended up returning it and they tried to fix it under warranty but they couldn't.. so they just refunded me. I'm buying LG this time. But mine was kinda cheap $500, failed $4k tv would hurt to be honest.

If I was in the menu it didn't shut down, as soon as I switch to one of the HDMI inputs or watch TV channels thru its internal tuner it shuts down after about 3 minutes. I sent it back under warranty to fix it and guess what they couldn't fix it and they had to refund me.

Good news is it's a hisense, so when your power supply goes just after your warranty does, you'll have a chance to get back to normal.

I'd say the U65QF is definitely worth the extra money judging by the specs online. It's brighter, has a better processor, 144hz panel and a subwoofer. The former two things will make a big difference for HDR and general image/motion quality. The 144hz panel will also lessen blur generally for most content not just stuff above 60hz like games. The subwoofer will be great if you weren't going to use an external sound setup.

QF is the 2025 model, N is 2024. Not sure of all the updates on the new one but I have the 55" N and it is a great TV! If you're not a total TV nerd you probably won't notice a big difference but can't go wrong either way.

I have a 75 inch u7qg. I have complained about crushed blacks but I solved it on mine. Most of my problems come from Disney Plus Dolby Vision.

I use a Apple TV 4K so I tailored it to it. If I'm using an external source I put my HDMI setting at enhanced pro. I also reset my tv entirely via the pin next the HDMI port and that helped A LOT. I don't put my brightness above 60 — the brightness is so high and since the tv is so big more artifacts are noticeable.

I recently bought a 65" TCL QM6K Pro from Costco and I'm really happy with it. At the time of purchase I was also considering the comparable Hisense U6, but I preferred the Google TV operating system on the TCL to the Amazon Fire TV operating system on the Hisense.

I had the same dilemma for a different size. Went with Hisense. More future proof and better I think.

Very happy with my purchase. After thoroughly researching it made more sense to get the Hisense and later on if unhappy with the OS to get an Onn 4K Pro streamer.

I ordered the Hisense today while it's still on sale and am taking back my QM6K. The QM6K is really good, I just want that little extra brightness and color depth, and supposedly better motion handling for sports.

I just went for it, finally bought the 75U65QFC from Costco, just delivered yesterday. I'll say that the TV does look great and performs well so far. There is one big disappointment though — the 75 inch does NOT have an anti-reflective matte screen, unlike the 100 inch version.

I have the 75U65QFC that I bought from Costco about a month ago. With all my lights on in the room, I don't see any glare.

Both the QF and QG have the same TV specs so picture quality/performance should be the same. I would bet the Google version will be slightly higher in cost as FireTV is historically loaded with ads to subsidize the lower pricing.

Up your budget to LG C4 or even better LG G4. You will regret these models in 1 day.

My U6 goes into standby after a couple minutes of being idle, but that doesn't really bother me because it immediately turns back on where I left it.

It's a U6 so should be fine. Just make sure to get any extended warranties and you should be alright.

My honest opinion would be drop to a 65 inch and get the QM8K. Best bang for your buck 100%.
