Summary

The Hisense U6N is a 2024 mini-LED QLED TV that's earned a strong reputation as one of the best budget options under $400. Reddit sentiment is broadly positive among casual viewers, with most owners praising the picture quality relative to the price — especially the contrast improvement over regular LEDs. That said, the community consistently frames it as an entry-level pick, nudging gamers and movie enthusiasts toward the U7N or U8N if budget allows. Reliability concerns are present but not dominant, with a vocal minority reporting early failures while many others report years of trouble-free use.

Pros

  • Mini-LED with QLED (Quantum Dot) panel at under $350 for 55" — widely considered the best bang-for-buck in the budget TV segment
  • Full array local dimming delivers noticeably better black levels and contrast than standard LED TVs at this price point
  • 120Hz panel (on most sizes) enables smoother motion for casual sports, TV shows, and light gaming
  • Google TV OS praised for app flexibility — supports Stremio, SmartTube, and sideloading APKs compared to more restrictive Roku alternatives
  • Bright enough for normal to moderately lit living rooms; QLED color volume adds vibrancy that punches above its price tier
  • Owners upgrading from older budget TVs (Vizio, basic LED) report a dramatic, immediately noticeable picture improvement

Cons

  • No HDMI 2.1 despite labeling — limited to 4K@60Hz, making it a poor fit for PS5/Xbox Series X gamers who need 4K@120Hz
  • Motion handling and upscaling draw consistent criticism, particularly for lower-resolution sports content and fast-paced gaming — blurring and smearing reported by multiple PS5 users
  • The 75" size uses a different panel type than smaller sizes, meaning most reviews (including RTINGS) don't apply — a significant information gap for large-screen buyers
  • Reliability divided Reddit: some users report failures within 1-2 years; others have run Hisense TVs for 4+ years without issue — quality control is genuinely inconsistent
  • For just ~$100-150 more, the U7N offers native 120Hz, significantly higher brightness, better black levels, built-in subwoofer, and HDMI 2.1 — making the U6N's value harder to justify at full price
  • Google TV UI can be sluggish; some users report random crashes and required hard restarts, recommending an external streaming stick as a workaround

Great Picture, Wrong TV for Gamers

PS5 and Xbox users consistently run into the U6N's hard ceiling: no true HDMI 2.1 means 4K gaming is capped at 60Hz, and motion blur in fast games is a real complaint. For streaming and casual use it shines — for gaming, Reddit says spend the extra $100 on the U7N.

The Best Budget Mini-LED You Can Buy — With Asterisks

At $350 for a 55" mini-LED QLED TV, the U6N regularly tops Reddit's budget TV recommendations. But buyers should know the U7N closes the gap in quality faster than the price gap suggests, and reliability stories on Reddit range from 'zero issues after years' to 'dead in 18 months.'

The 75" Version Is Basically a Different TV

Reddit users and RTINGS both flag that the 75" U6N uses a completely different panel than smaller sizes — meaning standard reviews don't apply. At least one owner reported being underwhelmed by the large-screen version while 55" and 65" owners praise theirs, making size selection a more important decision than usual.

Has local dimming but only HDMI 2.0 so no 4k 144hz but can do 1440p/120hz

I've had four Hisense tvs two that I owned out right and two that I bought for my mother-in-law. All four of them died within 2 years of being bought. Please please stay away from all Hisense tvs they are not worth the trouble.

Bought this TV about a year ago when it was $899. Love it actually. Can't speak for the warranty but it's Costco so I have faith Costco would help me out.

I have one that's running perfectly for over 3 years now. I do not have expectations that it'll last 10 years but so far its been fine.

Good for standard use. It doesn't have HDMI 2.1 so don't expect this thing to be a gaming station device, but if you just want to have something for TV that looks great and has good features then this is a great choice. If you want a device for hooking up to and gaming, I would highly recommend the U7 from Hisense which supports 4k 144hz.

U6H is a 2022 Tv. Go with the U6N, its mini-led and a 2024 model

When our old Sony Bravia went out last year, we picked up a 65" Hisense U7N from Costco after seeing some of the reviews. It's been great.

Honestly if longevity is your main concern, all of your current televisions will far outlast anything you buy today.... unfortunately. If you're not watching much HDR than 100% go with the U6N its a great price.

For Hisense: Yes, it's not as bright or has as many dimming zones as a U8, but for the money, you're getting a massive screen with legit mini-LED contrast and QLED color. In a normal living room, it's more than bright enough.

Hisense is so trash.. I had a U6 for a little over a year and by the 7 month mark it started randomly crashing, I would get black screens with audio, it would have to be unplugged from the wall for a few minutes and replugged for it to turn on and all the bad reviews about the motion handling issues are true. Watching soccer which is depending on the source broadcasted in lower res was absolutely awful.

I went with the u7n over the u6n, super easy choice. The u6n has nothing on the u7n

I've had both. The U8N is worth the extra cash.

I have the 65U8N and it faces windows. It is very bright and it has excellent anti reflection. I cannot fault the contrast, it is for all intents the same as OLED to my eyes. I figured my last sony bravia was used for 14 years and still working, this tv will probably last just as long so better to get the best features than regret it.

For a bedroom TV at that budget, the U6 is the move. The mini-LED really helps with contrast in darker scenes for movies, and it's got a 120Hz panel which makes casual gaming and sports look surprisingly smooth. I've had my 55" for almost a year with zero issues, feels solid for the price.

From my experience, they don't last very long. I bought three, and they all had problems or died within 1.5 years. They were great while they worked though.

I love my U6N (it replaced an outdated Panasonic Plasma), so I am sure you will be thrilled with the 7 or 8.

I was in the same position a couple of weeks ago and ultimately went with the U7N. I really was close to stumping up the extra for the U8N, but there was £300 difference between them and I decided the improvement in image wasn't worth that much to me personally. I'm more than happy with the U7N in performance and definitely value.

Unless they have upgraded the processor or you plan to use an external streaming device, I highly recommend against the U6. It's generally a decent TV with fine picture and sound but it's super laggy and requires regular hard restarts.

Final thoughts? It's the best budget mini-LED you can get. That means better control over blooming and brighter highlights compared to regular LEDs in this price range. The 120Hz is a bonus for smoother motion. Hisense has been pretty consistent with quality on these U6/U7 models recently. At under $550 for a 65-inch with these specs, it's a no-brainer for a secondary setup.

I bought the U6N a few months ago and it had some awful coil whine on white screens. Got the qm7 to replace it and it has noticeably better picture quality. Plus you don't have to buy a streaming box because the TCL implementation is zippy.

Spend the extra money and get the 55" U6N. For around $300 you're not going to find a better TV for the price. It's easily the best television under $400 you'll find.

The U6 is a fantastic TV for bright rooms thanks to its QLED color and solid peak brightness for this price. While it doesn't have the high-end gaming specs or extreme brightness of the U7/U8 series, you're getting incredible value for a 75-inch screen.

I used it on a PS5 too and noticed the blurriness just need to set the game modes/clarity settings to get rid of it, also dropped frames isn't on the TV. I would get the U7 or any other similar TV that can do 4k/120hz if gaming was the main focus

It will be a nice bump over the Vizio, either way it's a low end Hisense. Don't keep your expectations too high.

I have the 75 inch one and I'm happy with it and had zero problems so far. There is always gonna be another sale or better deal. If it's in your budget and that's the TV you want I say go for it, it's definitely an upgrade from what you have.

I just bought the 75U6N as well. Unfortunately there's not many reviews on it, as the 75" model uses a different screen type than the other sizes so most reviews of the U6N are not relevant. (Source: RTINGS review). I'm underwhelmed by the display, honestly. It's sharp, but also fuzzy looking, like it's overlayed with a static filter.

I bought the U6G back in the spring of 23 and it's been a great living room TV for the family. I wanted to get the best bang for your buck TV, and rtings named it the best budget TV. So I'm sure the updated version is good as well.

I have both models, and I think that to stream and watch TV there is no much of a difference, however, for those who use an antenna the U7N is NEXGEN TV compatible, if you plan to use the TV to play video games definitely the U7N is way superior than the U6N.

I have 2. One is probably 10 years old at this point. Never had an issue with it. It's just used for Xbox now. My main tv is also a Hisense and it's about 4 years old. No issues either.

I got the U6N 75" yesterday. The picture is amazing. The colors really pop and although it's only 60hz, there isn't much blur at all. Hands down the best TV I've owned so far. I did A LOT of research, and this TV was one of the more well reviewed "budget" TVs from Rtings.

The brightness of the U7 allows for excellent HDR and DolbyVision and the blacks are much, much better. If you weren't planning on adding a soundbar the U7N built in speakers are phenomenal. For just "watching tv" the U6N is great. If you want movies to really pop and have a more immersive experience the U7 is the way to go.

I bought the u6n and it's a great value. If I get 5 years out of it I'd be happy. The only regret I get is reading redditors rave about the u8.

Don't get a cheap Hisense. They are crap quality. the one I bought had a line down the side of the screen when I got it but only noticeable if you really looked so I didn't return it. A few weeks later I moved it a few inches and the screen completely went. I then took it back and they said they would send it for repair but refused to replace it.

I had the 65" version of the QD7 for a couple of months and was never really happy with the contrast/blacks (it's not mini-LED). I returned it for the 65" U6N (for the same price) and the improvement in picture quality was incredible. Go with the U6N!

I also have the 50" U6H in my bedroom. I paid the same $218 for it, and it has a remarkably good picture for the price. It's plenty bright for a bedroom TV.

Sadly, the blurring/smearing is a problem with Hisense TVs and gaming. I'm always surprised when reviews from outlets like Rtings and Digital Trends fail to mention this. While these TVs offer a lot of bang for your buck, there are some annoying issues such as this, as well as overall reliability, that really hold them back.
