Summary

The LG B4 OLED is Reddit's go-to recommendation for anyone entering the OLED world without wanting to overpay for the C or G series. Sentiment across hundreds of real-world owners is overwhelmingly positive, with most buyers describing it as a transformative upgrade from LED and QLED TVs. The TV shines brightest for dark-room viewers, console gamers, and those using it as a desktop monitor — but users coming from high-end Sony OLEDs or expecting flagship brightness may find it underwhelming. The central debate isn't whether the B4 is good, but whether it's good enough relative to the C4, and most conclude it absolutely is — especially when you can buy a bigger B4 for the price of a smaller C4.

Pros

  • Infinite OLED contrast and true blacks make every content type — movies, games, sports — look dramatically better than any LED or QLED at a similar price point
  • 4x HDMI 2.1 ports at 120Hz on most sizes means full support for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC simultaneously — something the pricier Sony Bravia 8 fails to offer with only 2 ports
  • Exceptional value-per-inch: buyers consistently report choosing a larger B4 (65" or 77") over a smaller C4 for the same budget and being happier with the size difference than any brightness boost would have delivered
  • Works brilliantly as a PC monitor replacement — multiple users ditched dual 1440p setups for the 48" B4 and reported better HDR, better immersion, and no regrets
  • Dolby Vision, VRR, 120Hz, and webOS included — all the features that matter for gaming and streaming are present without paying the C4 premium
  • Burn-in concerns are minimal in real-world use; owners gaming heavily report no issues, and LG's built-in pixel refresher further reduces risk

Cons

  • Lower peak brightness than the C4 and G4 is a real limitation in bright or sunlit rooms — the B4 lacks a brightness booster and is noticeably dimmer in HDR highlights when compared side by side
  • Capped at 120Hz on most sizes (only the 83" model hits 144Hz), which matters for PC gamers who came from high-refresh monitors
  • Upscaling and image processing is weaker than the C4's α9 chip — low-quality streams like 720p sports content can look noticeably worse than expected, and some users find the improvement over older OLEDs like the CX minimal in that area
  • webOS UI draws consistent complaints — laggy scrolling in apps, persistent ad prompts, and an aggressive smart remote that tries to control other devices out of the box
  • Green tint issue reported by some owners on certain units, particularly visible in specific content — a QC inconsistency that affects a minority of buyers
  • ABL (Automatic Brightness Limiter) is noticeable in racing games and other bright full-screen scenes, causing the image to dim dynamically in ways that can be distracting

Does the B4 Actually Need Calibration to Look Good?

Plenty of new owners are underwhelmed straight out of the box — default settings, energy saver mode on, and streaming services without 4K plans are responsible for most of the disappointment. Once eco mode is off, a proper picture preset is selected, and 4K HDR content is loaded, the consensus flips entirely.

The B4 Sells Itself by Being the Cheapest OLED With 4 HDMI 2.1 Ports

While Sony's Bravia 8 competes on picture processing, Reddit users keep coming back to the port situation — 4x HDMI 2.1 on the B4 versus 2 on the Bravia 8 at nearly double the price. For anyone with a PC, two consoles, and a streaming box, the B4 wins the spec sheet before the picture quality even comes up.

Three 48-Inch B4s on a Racing Sim Rig — and No Regrets

The 48" B4 has found an unexpected fanbase among sim racers, PC monitor enthusiasts, and bedroom setups where it replaces dual monitors entirely. At its frequent sale price it has been called the best thing ever bought on deal subreddits — a use case LG probably didn't design for but that the community has fully embraced.

Got it on Black Friday for around this price. Then got a new TV Stand for Xmas. I've gone from playing games on my computer everyday after work to watching movies everyday after work. Take that as you will, but I love the TV.

The B4 OLED will generally be a much better TV, nothing comes close to the contrast OLED at this price point. Other TVs might be brighter, I'd still choose the B4 over it though.

Have this TV, my wife hates it which means it's excellent. She complained that it was too bright and there was too much detail. She specifically doesn't want to see the fine detail on people's faces and things like that.

I absolutely love mine. I've had it for around 6 months and have never once wished I went with a more expensive model.

4 HDMI 2.1 vs 2 on the Sony. Not for $800 you can't screw me like that Sony.

Also I didn't know PS5 games looked this good. Samsung was not doing them justice.

Welcome to the B4 club. I weighed getting either a C4 or a G4, but a super good deal arose on the B4 that I couldn't pass up. Very happy with it, and it's more than sufficiently bright for my dim basement theater.

I just got a 55 B4 and am incredibly happy. I was originally going to go for an x90l but glad I went with the B4 deal. I don't think I could go back from an OLED now.

I'm watching this exact TV right now. It's fabulous. One great feature is that it allows you to switch between apps without losing your place. I can swap out of the HBO app to watch live TV and when I go back into HBO, it picks up again from where I left off.

I already overstretched my budget for the B4 and could not justify £1400 for a TV when I was fine with 2017 LED for years.

I do not really understand the obsession with brightness haha, I have a B4 and it's excellent, there are no situations where I'd want it brighter.

You won't regret the B4. Turn off eco mode, set it to cinema, and enjoy. The black levels are just unreal on OLEDs — it's super cool seeing something as simple as the Netflix logo pop up without a massive halo of light around it.

My B4 looks just as good as my C2.

My wife is sensitive to screen brightness and says our B4 is way too bright when I set it to 90 on HDR content and says it hurts her eyes — when I go to bed she immediately turns it down to like 50. So for some people, it's perfectly bright enough. Everyone is different.

The source content makes a huge difference. If you're watching SDR content, that will not showcase your OLED.

Turn off energy saver and play around with picture settings. Also turn off all the AI settings.

Depends what $100 is worth to you. B4's a great TV. C4's slightly better.

From all the research I've done, I'd go for a bigger B4 if it's same/similar price to C4. 65" vs 55" is a noticeable difference. But obviously depends on your room among other things.

I got the B4 as well. 4k soccer looks amazing. Out of the box 720p soccer looks worse than my 13 year old LG 1080p unit. I've been playing with settings and improved it to an acceptable level.

I got the B4 and I do think it's brilliant, the only problem I have with it is the ABL in racing games, but other than that it's great.

I got the B4 65 a month ago for £820. Very happy. I didn't see the point in getting the C, having read of the differences.

I got this for $500 and it has replaced my dual 1440p monitors. This investment has been probably the best thing I've bought on this subreddit. Also I have a 55" QLED also in my room and I don't even use it anymore — I just always watch movies and content on my B4 now too.

I use it as a monitor. I love it for both gaming and productivity work. My setup is ideal — I have a deep 32" desk in a dark room.

There's very little ACTUAL difference in the display quality and overall viewing experience between ANY OLED TV, as they all have infinite contrast and incredibly punchy colors. The C4 is a bit brighter and punchier, but they're essentially the same TV with a very similar picture if not watched in a sunroom.

I looked at the C4 and B4 side by side at Best Buy. Reflections are a big concern for me. I actually prefer the softer reflections on the B4 to the mirror-like reflections on the C4. The improvements that come with the C4 aren't enough to offset that, plus the extra $600.

I paid $999 for my B4 65". It's an awesome TV. Especially coming from a bad Insignia TV. I'd get it over the Q7 for sure — you won't regret it.

I bought my B4 a week before Christmas & noticed the difference from LED instantly. Playing FF7 Rebirth on a PS5 Pro & watching Interstellar in OLED is an experience.

For $550, I don't think you can do much better than this. It's a good budget entry into OLED, and perfectly acceptable over the C4 if you don't need multiple HDMI 2.1 ports or the nominally brighter panel.

Picked one of these up a few weeks ago. I've been using it as a PC monitor, have my XSX hooked to it and a current gen ATV. Have a 55 C4 EVO as well and don't really notice much of a difference between the two.

Dark room? 2024. Not even kidding lol. VRR, 120Hz 4K, thing is incredible. I only owned 3 for a short while but other than brightness and upscaling, it holds its own with most modern panels IMO.

I have three 48" B4s on my racing sim and they're incredible. Don't get all caught up in the specs. The B4s have been going on sale often for almost half price and are unbeatable for the money. I also had a C4 and honestly didn't notice any difference.

The main issue you're going to have is the lack of brightness. The B panels are not great in that department, and the G/C panels are noticeably brighter. If you can swing it, I'd absolutely recommend the C4 panel over the B-series. You're spending 15-20% more for a dramatically better panel.

I want a smaller TV for my bedroom / gaming. I've been waiting for Memorial Day for the C4 to go on sale, but the deal on the B4 seems like I just can't pass it up. $550 at Best Buy vs $900. Will be used in a dark room, no PC gaming so 120Hz is perfect. I think I have to go with the B4. The C4 just isn't worth an extra $350 which is like 65% of the cost of the B4.

I have owned a C7, a CX and now a B4. My CX had a MLA panel and that made it better than my replacement B4. Also image upscaling is much better on the CX and C7. The only thing that's better on the B4 is the color. Wow do they pop compared to a C7 and maybe 20% better than a CX.

The LG B4 has the same gaming features as the higher tier LG TVs (C4, G4). I have one and I absolutely love it — it's great for gaming and watching content on it is very pleasant.

I had a C1, C4, B4, and S90D in the same house for a bit, and was hugely disappointed by the B4. My 70+ year old in-laws even asked why it doesn't look good after being used to the S90D and C4. The B4 was returned.

You didn't make the wrong decision with the B4. Don't let your family or friends put you off. It needs some good standard settings to show its full potential — YouTube is your best friend here. Above all, do your research on picture modes.

I have one and the biggest downside is it only has HDMI and 4K 120 requires HDMI 2.1 and not many cheaper GPUs or mini PCs have that unfortunately.

Some? I have one and the green tint is on another level. I can't believe they let this happen. Some say that even the C4 is flawed with the same tint.

Picked up a 48" B4 from Best Buy for $600 on Black Friday to replace a TCL series 5 and am thrilled with the upgrade to OLED. The only thing I don't like is the LG software, especially the cursor.

The UI is surprisingly laggy for me. I was hoping it would be snappy, was sick of $200 TVs taking ages to respond. The LG channels app literally takes a full second to scroll down an entry — it's insane.

My brother got one for $499 at Best Buy on a 24 hour sale and it looks phenomenal with 4K UHD Blu-rays and video games. As long as there isn't too much light in the room (TV isn't super bright), the quality is top notch.

Make sure it works before you hand over your money. If it works, say goodbye to $400 — absolute steal for a 55" B4.
