Summary

The LG C4 OLED is widely regarded as one of the best all-around TVs in its price class, with Reddit's overwhelming consensus landing on 'buy it, you won't regret it.' The vast majority of owners report genuine satisfaction — especially for gaming, movies, and dark-room viewing — but the most consistent debate is about brightness expectations. Users upgrading from older LCDs or mini-LED panels are sometimes underwhelmed, while those who understand OLED's strengths come away raving. It's not a bright-room TV, and community members are quick to point that out to anyone who doesn't already know it. For gamers and cinephiles in dimmer environments, it's essentially the consensus pick.

Pros

  • Exceptional contrast and pure blacks thanks to per-pixel OLED illumination — HDR and Dolby Vision content in particular is described as 'magical' and 'otherworldly' by long-term owners
  • Gaming performance is best-in-class at this price: 4K 144Hz, VRR, G-Sync compatibility, and near-instant response times make it a top pick for PS5 Pro and PC users
  • Full Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos support — a meaningful advantage over QD-OLED competitors like the Samsung S90D that lack DV, particularly for streaming content on Netflix, Disney+, and Apple TV+
  • Available in an unusually wide range of sizes (42", 48", 55", 65", 77", 83") and holds up well even after 1,000+ hours with no burn-in reported by most owners in normal usage
  • WebOS is responsive and the developer mode allows sideloading apps like Kodi and Moonlight — appreciated by power users who want flexibility beyond the stock app lineup
  • Long-term reliability reputation: multiple users have run LG OLEDs (C1, C2, C3) for 3–5+ years without issues, and the C4 inherits that track record

Cons

  • Lower peak brightness than mini-LED or QD-OLED alternatives — users coming from TCL QM8 or Hisense U8 series are often shocked at how much dimmer it feels in well-lit rooms, and sports content in particular suffers
  • Panel uniformity issues (green or pink tint on near-white screens like ice in hockey games) have been reported by a notable minority — LG's warranty response on these cases is reportedly inconsistent
  • WebOS has deteriorated in recent versions — firmware updates have removed useful features (e.g. screensaver timer), and the OS is considered inferior to Google TV or even Tizen by many in the community
  • Built-in speakers are consistently criticized as inadequate; nearly every owner recommends budgeting for a soundbar, making the total cost of ownership meaningfully higher than the sticker price suggests
  • The C4 is a 2024 model nearing end-of-production cycle — C5 is already out and C6 is imminent, meaning the C4 is increasingly harder to find new and may come from questionable stock
  • VRR and AMD FreeSync can conflict when both are enabled simultaneously, causing screen flickering in PC gaming setups — a fixable but non-obvious issue that catches new owners off guard

The Brightness Expectation Problem

The most common source of disappointment with the C4 isn't the panel itself — it's buyers who expect OLED to outshine their mini-LED. Multiple threads show users returning perfectly functioning C4s only to realize their use case was wrong for OLED, not the other way around.

Still the Consensus Gaming Pick Despite Newer Options

Even with the C5 out and C6 on the horizon, Reddit's gaming communities still land on the C4 when recommending value-focused OLED TVs. Its 144Hz support, Dolby Vision, and DTS passthrough (which the C5 dropped) keep it relevant for buyers who know what they need.

One Year In: Burn-In Fears Mostly Unfounded

Long-term owners posting after a year of heavy use — including gaming and static-HUD content — generally report no burn-in with the pixel refresh cycle running normally. The fear appears to be much bigger than the actual risk for typical mixed-use viewing patterns.

OLEDs excel in darker content, dark rooms, gaming. If you want something bright, MiniLED is what you should be looking at.

Stupid question: are you removing the protective film from the screen? Could be why it's getting so hot + smelling bad as the plastic is melting. And this would explain why you have some blooming.

I agree, had an lg C4 for a week and sent it back and got a Bravia 7 mini LED. Yes in a dark room the C4 was better but as far as bright room, colour, HDR brightness, motion, upscaling the Sony just wins. Better overall TV in my opinion.

Of the LG lineup, the 'Gallery'/flagship sets have much better brightness than their lower tiers of OLEDs. If you're still within your return window you might want to check out the Samsung S90D, which is pretty bright for an OLED and very bright for the price tier its in.

Yes. You may experience supraphysiological levels of dopamine once you gaze upon the otherworldly picture quality... and never want to look at any other panel again. This is the curse that comes with the gift of viewing perfection, friend. Once you look, there is no turning back.

Tbh I don't understand the obsession with 'enough brightness'. I have an LG C3 and sometimes in HDR content I think that it is TOO bright. I see the new models, or the G line, and all the reviews talk about how much brighter they are, and I'm like what's the point lol it's already beyond what's necessary.

I've had a C3 for 14 months, with over 3k hours. The TV is flawless! Best investment I've ever made!

Low quality content in = bad image. No TV has good sound, this is how it is in 2024.

Bravia 7 is what you want by the sound of it but that's minimum 55". There are no good options under 50" other than C4 and QN90D but if you have this experience with a C4, the QN90D will be shockingly bad.

I got the C4 65 inch and it ends up the best TV I've ever owned. But I must say that I prefer a more accurate image rather than a bright image.

I'm dead inside. 77" costs what I paid for a 65" back in Jan (after tax). I knew this series always goes on sale throughout the year but my old tv died and I wasn't ready to wait. Great tv for a grand though.

I simply dont understand how much brightness do people want when i get blasted in the face with ion cannon every time i dare to raise volume at night. I would go blind if I tried using c4 at 100 brightness in a dark room.

The LG C4 is a fantastic TV yes. Many people who turn to OLED don't turn back again, me included. I think that OLED's contrast and black levels just make such a better looking picture the vast majority of the time. HDR and Dolby Vision content in particular looks phenomenal imo.

I got the c4 last week, and honestly, it's amazing. The picture quality is insane, and every time I watch a movie, I'm completely blown away. Totally worth it.

If you get a tv and you are debating between the sizes, always get the bigger one. Assuming you can afford it if you are considering it. A 77 inch is about 40% larger so the price difference is pretty justified in my mind. Any tv you get is going to last many years. 77 is kind of the sweet spot and has been for a while now.

We have a TCL Q7 for our upstairs TV and bought a C4 for the basement and felt the exact same way as you. Ended up returning it and bought a Samsung S90C instead and it completely restored my faith in OLEDs.

Are you new to OLED? If so you'll love the C4. If not and you're a purist and want the absolute best of the best then I'd go with the G4. I'm perfectly happy with my new 77" C4. As far as brightness goes it's plenty bright for me. If you're putting it in a bedroom then the C4 should be fine.

The G4 has higher brightness. That's where it is mostly superior to the C4. Given the OP's plans for it to be a bedroom TV, it surely is not in a super bright environment. I have a C2 in my bedroom, and zero desire to have a G series. More expensive for not enough benefit in the room.

Different strokes for different folks. I much prefer the oled for its dimmer panel as mini-led is far too bright for me.

Good luck getting anything else that you'll like then. The C4 is a phenomenal TV. All other OLEDs will be comparable so maybe go for an LCD - but they absolutely are inferior to OLEDs.

Yeah I just returned a C4 because of the green and pink tint issue. If you watch hockey I definitely don't recommend.

No burning after almost a year. I did run the pixel check and it was fine. To put into perspective I have around 1300hr in. Worst case LG is pretty good with after care service.

Just pulled the trigger on the 77". I've had the 42" C2 as my main computer monitor for a few years and love it. Have a 65" C3 for the living room and now will have this 77" C4 for the basement home theater. Looking forward to it arriving.

Not just good, incredible! It has Dolby Vision and obviously an OLED panel will look beautiful. It has perfect blacks and contrast, beautiful colors. The only thing to keep in mind is it's not the brightest TV, so if you plan to use it in a very sunny room there might be better choices out there. But in normal, and especially dark environments, this image is about the best you can get. Mine still blows me away sometimes.

Room light control makes or breaks OLED's.

I returned my C4 because the auto brightness limiting was driving me nuts while gaming... but never had any of these other issues. Probably would have kept it otherwise tbh. Mini LEDs for me until we get mid tier OLEDs with better cooling.

I bought the C4 65-inch in April this year, and so far, I've been very pleased with it. My room is bright with a lot of natural light, which can be a problem for any OLED but the LG does well enough. When watching at night or in the dark, it slaps.

I got the c4 55 inch two weeks ago. Before I had a 2015 Samsung Curved LCD 4k. Big change and big difference. I'm amazed what I've been missing and happy to have made the leap. Everything is just so crisp and the deep blacks are just so nice to have.

I have the same tv, but it's been a nightmare. There's a huge amount of green tint on either side, but LG keeps telling me there's no defect and refuses to replace it under warranty. I'm still fighting them, and it's been over half a year.

C4 if you primarily play games, Bravia if you primarily watch content. They're both at the top of the charts and you'll be thrilled with either — LG has additional gaming options related to gsync and Sony has better image processing that benefit movies/shows.

I have had the c4 and s90D side by side hooked up to the same feed and the s90D was pretty much better in every way I tested them. The C4 was disappointing with some green tint and panel uniformity issues. The C4 also got a little washed out when I pushed the brightness.

Picked up 48inch C4 2 weeks ago at cheap price before being discontinued. High-res video content is fab, works perfectly with Apple TV 4K and Xbox series X, response time on Xbox series X is class. Low-res video content not great, noisy pictures especially in low light, glossy screen does pick up quite a few reflections, green tint was visible but can be adjusted with settings.

Happy with my 83 C4 and my 83 B4. OLED is king, and DTS passthrough and Dolby vision are great reasons to get the LG over the Samsung.

I'd give my 77" C4 a perfect score. I'm currently raw-dogging with the TV's speakers and they're actually pretty damn good. Really couldn't be more satisfied. Glad I didn't splash for the G4.

I own LG C4 55" and I am happy with this TV. I am using it mainly for gaming and listening to the music and it is doing the job. Pictures quality is very good and I did not have major issues. I like that it have developer mode where you can install some additional stuff like Moonlight Client or Kodi. What I don't like is LG firmware update policy — sometimes they remove good functionality.

C5 is going to be a better TV but my C4 is just over 1yr old and I still love it. Best TV I've ever owned. Thought I was mad spending €1200 on a TV but it was so worth it. Picture quality/sound are amazing compared to LED TVs. The Geforce Now TV app has to be experienced. Unbelievable tech.

I went with the C4 instead of C5 purely because C4 supports DTS. Other than an unnoticeable bump in peak brightness, I think the C4 is better.
