Summary

The LG QNED92A is LG's best LCD TV effort in years — a full array local dimming Mini-LED that finally gives the brand a competitive non-OLED option. Reddit sentiment is mixed but leaning positive for the price bracket: owners generally report solid picture quality, good motion handling, and reliable upscaling, especially for sports and lower-resolution content. The TV draws interest from buyers who want a large-screen LCD without burn-in risk, though it consistently loses head-to-head comparisons to pricier rivals. It occupies an awkward spot in the market: better than most expect from LG's LED lineup, but struggling to justify itself against similarly priced competition.

Pros

  • True full array local dimming (FALD) Mini-LED panel with around 500 dimming zones — a meaningful upgrade over edge-lit LG models like the QNED85A which use misleading Mini-LED labeling
  • LG's upscaling and motion processing outperforms TCL at similar price points, making it well-suited for sports, cable TV, and lower-resolution content like 1080p and 768p sources
  • WebOS is consistently praised for its responsiveness and quality — users who prefer it over Google TV or Tizen see this as a genuine differentiator
  • Solid dimming algorithm per RTINGS testing — manages local dimming better than TCL's QM7K despite having fewer zones, resulting in fewer haloing artifacts in typical viewing scenarios
  • Burn-in free by design, making it a practical alternative to OLED for households where the TV stays on for extended periods, kids' rooms, or always-on living room setups
  • Available in large sizes (75", 85") with aggressive discounts that bring it close to or below TCL pricing in some markets, making the value case much stronger on sale

Cons

  • Loses on raw brightness and dimming zone count to the Sony Bravia 9 — which offers roughly double the peak brightness and nearly triple the zones — making the QNED92A a clear step down for bright room performance at the premium tier
  • TCL QM7K and QM8K consistently beat it on picture brightness and HDR punch at the same or lower prices in the US market, where the QNED92A is frequently seen as overpriced
  • QC concerns reported by some users, including faulty panels on the 55" model that required replacement — potentially a batch-level issue based on early manufacturing runs
  • Colors were noted as looking off out of the box in some comparison videos, requiring calibration — not a dealbreaker but adds setup friction compared to Sony's out-of-box accuracy
  • Gets routinely overlooked by TV reviewers who focus on LG's OLED lineup, leaving buyers with fewer independent review sources and calibration data to work from
  • Even within Sony's lineup, the Bravia 5 beats it on upscaling and processing, and the Bravia 7 further widens the gap — the QNED92A only becomes competitive when priced meaningfully lower

LG Finally Made a Good LCD — But Reddit Still Won't Fully Commit

Owners report genuine satisfaction with the QNED92A's motion handling and upscaling, but the community's default response to any comparison thread remains 'get the Sony' or 'get the TCL.' The TV is good enough to own, just rarely first choice.

The Value Case Lives or Dies by the Discount

At full price, Reddit consensus leans toward the TCL QM7K or QM8K for better brightness per dollar. But when the QNED92A drops to TCL pricing — which happens often — users call it a legitimate toss-up or even favor LG for its OS and motion handling.

Surprisingly Recommended for Upscaling-Heavy Use Cases

While most Mini-LED comparisons focus on HDR brightness, the QNED92A earns specific praise from users watching cable TV, sports, and YouTube — content that benefits from LG's processing engine over TCL's raw brightness advantage.

What a weird comparison. The LG isn't even better than QN90D or Bravia 7. This isn't even a choice

I wouldn't recommend LG glossy panels for this room, they are very reflective. I would suggest mini-LEDs like the Sony Bravia 7.

LG QNED is just not worth your money.

The Bravia 9 is double the peak brightness, and has almost triple the amount of dimming zones. The QNED92 is a good LED TV when compared to past LG LEDs but if you pit it against the Samsung QN90F or the Sony Bravia 7 it falls short in performance.

This subreddit is way too invested in RTINGS reviews and their own echo chamber. It doesn't perfectly paint the picture for real life viewing.

LG makes good OLEDs. LG LEDs are hot garbage. Sony all the way.

Bravia 9 is the best non-OLED TV on the market.

Is it better than a Bravia 5? No, a Bravia 5 will have better upscaling, processing, and motion handling. But for kids watching TV and guests, save the money and get the LG — it's still decent.

Bravia 9 — best mini LED available. Look up the specs!

Honestly, the Bravia 9 is just a much better buy overall, as long as you're cool with spending a bit more money. The extra cost is worth it for what you get.

Bravia 9 best mini led tv, qned 92A is not even close.

It's a full array 120 hz mini LED with Dolby vision. Pretty decent specs for a tv. TCL you'll still get a slightly better picture and probably a better price. But LG uses really good processors and TCL I still see some QC issues going on as far as motion handling and what not.

It's because traditionally LG wasn't good when it came to their LED models. They have improved over the last few years, but the QNED92A is their only LED worth even considering because the QNED85A is an edge lit LED being marked as a MiniLED. However, since they make great OLEDs... reviewers tend to overlook LG's LEDs or give them a free pass since what gets the clicks on their review is OLED.

QM7K for more vibrant and brighter picture and QNED92A for better upscaling. Depends on what you watch. TCL would be better for movies and LG would be better for sports and low resolution upscaling.

For the US the LG is far more expensive than TCL. If it's the same price then you might as well get the LG.

People scream that OLED is better than everything but it's such an oversimplification and really depends on how you plan to use the tv. If the tv is going in a dark room, get the B5, no question. If you're in a brighter room and you can afford it, get the C5. If you personally prefer having a very bright picture, are someone who would obsess over OLED burn in, or just don't want to spend that much, get the QNED.

Is the 85" not negotiable? You can get a 77" OLED at a similar price and miles better quality of a TV.

In most cases, the QNED92A is a worse option than similarly priced or even cheaper miniLED displays. As others mentioned, the QM7K has better picture overall whilst being usually cheaper. In any case, if the QNED92A is cheaper or on a heavy discount, it's worth considering.

I brought LG and is superior to Samsung and TCL at blacks level and local dimming. I tested all 3, and LG is far better!

At my place it is priced in the same range or even below TCL. Why will I not go for LG with far better motion handling.

The QM7K also beats LG on pretty much everything except maybe motion handling and upscaling but the price can be as much as $300 cheaper for the TCL. Right now they are the same price so it's a toss up, but go back a few months ago and LG was overpriced as hell vs the QM7K.

Quality difference to a QNED is extreme to be honest. I own both.

Between the OLED and 92A, the 92A is going to provide a bit more brightness. G5 would be the best OLED bet, but something like the Bravia 7 could work too.

If you don't wanna spend that much and QNED is still an option, the 92a over the 85a for sure.

The QNED also has an improved amount of local dimming zones this year. It is also a VA panel at smaller sizes which might be a little too colorful and punchy for most eyes.

I'm a huge TCL fan and have been for a long time. Perhaps I got a bad panel, but the LG smokes it in terms of interface lag and black conformity. Is the TCL brighter? Yes. But that's about all I can say.

The LG is brighter for a bright room. The Sony overall will have better processing and light control for better contrast. But from what you are saying about how they would be used, I think either would work well — just depends on what operating system you like and picture you prefer.

I can personally assure you that a slightly smaller, higher quality TV is MUCH better than a larger but worse TV.

I purchased it in October 2025, and within a day I noticed some dark spots on the panel. I raised a complaint, and after multiple inspections, the TV was replaced after one month. Since then, it has been working fine. The replacement unit is also a July-manufactured model.

OLEDs good but if you're not going for OLED I would say go with TCL mini LED instead of QNEDs or anything else.

At the same price the Bravia 5 is better. The Bravia 7 is about $700 more right now, but look at that over the five plus years this is going to be on your wall. Color, brightness, and contrast — the B7 destroys anything short of the B9.

Go for the size. Bravia 5 85" is a fantastic TV. You can also look at the TCLs to save a bit.

If the majority of your watching is during the day then the TCL is a good alternative, even better than Samsung. Quality is not even close to the C5 but for brightness and day viewing the TCL wins.

Sure, that's why nobody is reviewing LG, because TCL exists. There is literally no post here where you don't show up mentioning TCL.

I game on my LG C4 42 inch tv/monitor and prefer Google TV over LG OS. So the real option for me would be Sony vs TCL.
