Summary

The Panasonic W95A is a 2024 Mini-LED TV that has earned widespread praise on Reddit, primarily for its exceptional price-to-performance ratio. Buyers consistently describe the picture as cinematic, with deep blacks, accurate colors, and strong motion handling powered by a premium image processor. The TV shines for movie watching and sports, especially in moderately bright rooms. It's a better fit for non-gamers due to its inability to run VRR and local dimming simultaneously in Game Mode. Reddit's overall consensus is that it punches well above its discounted price point and represents one of the best value deals of its product cycle.

Pros

  • Exceptional native contrast ratio of 5500:1 — delivers deep blacks and shadow detail without needing aggressive local dimming, noticeably outperforming competitors at similar price points
  • Dolby Vision IQ with ambient light sensor support provides a premium cinema experience especially in variable lighting environments, a feature more common on higher-end sets
  • Motion handling praised as on par with Sony's best — the image processor chip draws repeated compliments, making fast content like sports and action films look smooth and natural
  • 144Hz panel at its price range is a standout spec, enabling smooth playback across all content types even when gaming features are limited
  • Built-in sound system receives praise — several owners dropped their soundbars after switching to this TV, which is rare for a TV in this category
  • Upscaling from 720p/1080p content handled impressively well, making it a solid pick for those with mixed content libraries

Cons

  • Cannot run VRR and local dimming simultaneously in Game Mode — a real hardware limitation that affects serious gamers, though casual players report it's barely noticeable in practice
  • Fire OS is consistently criticized as sluggish and unintuitive; most owners recommend bypassing it entirely with an Apple TV or Nvidia Shield
  • Daytime brightness is adequate but not impressive — in very bright rooms without supplementary settings adjustments, it falls short of competitors like the Hisense U8 or Samsung QN90D
  • Viewing angles are mediocre as expected from a VA Mini-LED panel — side seating arrangements see noticeable color and contrast degradation
  • Multiple reports of shipping damage (cracked screens, bent bezels) particularly from third-party sellers Beach Camera and BuyDig — worth factoring into purchase decisions
  • The W95A is now a discontinued 2024 model being phased out for the W95B, which raises questions about long-term firmware support and ATSC 3.0 update delivery

Can You Actually Game on the W95A?

The VRR + local dimming limitation sounds worse on paper than in practice. Real owners playing PS5 titles report no tearing and great contrast even with VRR off — the native 5500:1 contrast ratio does a lot of heavy lifting.

Panasonic Priced It to Win Back the US Market

At Costco clearance prices, the W95A undercut the Sony Bravia 7 by hundreds of dollars while delivering comparable motion and color. Reddit broadly agrees: Sony buyers are paying the 'Sony tax' and the Panasonic eats their lunch for less.

Fire OS Is the One Thing Nobody Defends

Unlike the gaming limitation, Fire OS has no silver lining in Reddit's eyes. Nearly every owner sidesteps it with a streaming dongle or Apple TV. It's the clearest weak point on an otherwise well-rounded set.

It's good if you're not gaming since it can't have vrr and local dimming on at the same time. Otherwise, for that price it punches way above it's weight

I love my 65" W95 (got it on sale for around $500). I also have a 75" Sony X93L (got it on sale for $1300). The Sony is a better TV but my wife and I are still blown away by the W95 in our bedroom, especially for the value. The TV is super bright and extremely crisp. The Fire OS is responsive so no issues there, although I just prefer the Google OS. For $700, this TV is the gold standard. I'd go Panasonic over TCL or Hisense any day

You got downvoted but that's because most people swear by Rtings without ever seeing the TV for themselves. Rtings is good for metrics, but it's better to see the TV in person, and the Panasonic has a much better motion and a better processing chip than some of the miniLEDs it's competing with. It looked damn good on Caleb's review as well. Even next to the B7. So I'm struggling to choose between the two as well. Rtings is not the end all be all, c'mon now people

I've played a bunch of Doom and my son plays all sorts of various games, currently Forza is his favorite. I don't know what the big deal is. Every game looks beautiful. I don't have any tearing, colors and darks look fine.

W95A has great native contrast 5500:1 that means that even with local dimming disabled you will get quite decent black. Many games just maintain high FPS and actually don't need VRR. Bright games looks perfect without local dimming. So you will be just deciding on game by game basis what is the best settings.

Not as great as I was hoping. Making my search harder.

You will be especially happy at how well it handles motion for sports. You just have to disable the motion setting. Play a football game on YouTube and you'll see it once you get it right.

I have this TV along with a PS5. I can play Fortnite at 120fps @120hz and it looks just fine. VRR is off but I really am struggling to see any side effects such as screen tearing or low contrast. The input lag is low and the colors look great.

Rtings review was not very good at mentioning the Panasonic measures better with native contrast - this directly improves micro contrast and blooming suppression and is closer to that OLED look. The one thing that is correct is how the Bravia 7 is brighter but that is only in HDR, and even then, there is poor highlight detail.

I think you made a fantastic choice. I just ordered one as well, will be here next week hopefully. It's comparable to the QM7K but at $699 is almost half the price and you get the Panasonic quality. Nearly every thread on here is positive on it, and even gamers are saying the VRR/local dimming quirk is not a big deal. Looks like you don't game, and in my house it's my kids who are casual gamers. Excited for it to arrive

Got the 55" for a family member earlier this year. Was originally looking for an X90L, but the W95A was several hundred less. Picture and build quality is excellent. I owned 3 or 4 Panasonic plasmas back in the day, and the image processing reminds me of those - a bit softer than Sony but still very pleasing to watch. The Fire OS is pretty bad, including navigating to change picture settings. But once you have it set, you can bypass the Home Screen and just have it power on to an HDMI source.

I purchased a w95b for my parents recently and honestly the picture is amazing. My dad mostly uses for streaming movies and sports and it's perfect for that. Colour accuracy is on point. I think it rivals my Bravia 7

I pulled the trigger. The Pano seems to be broadly equivalent to the Bravia 7, with the big drawback being the FireOS. I'm planning on using a Roku Ultra anyways, so there's no way the B7 is worth $500 more than the Pano!

I also have this TV. While I agree that the Picture quality is excellent. The FireTV OS sucks. Panasonic has released new updates to improve stability and add ATSC 3.0 support. My TV is unable to apply these updates.

I love my W95A for movies, basketball, and light gaming. It was on sale for $600 for the 65" back during summer and it's easily the best, craziest bang for my buck piece of hardware I've ever purchased. At this point I'm content holding out and shelling out the cash for the new micro RGB TVs as they come out and skip OLED altogether. I don't feel a need to upgrade the picture quality anytime soon.

I bought the Panasonic W95A and a Samsung Q990D for my parents as a surprise upgrade. They love it, and I'll be honest the W95A is a very impressive MiniLED. However, I don't think I would switch any of my OLEDs for it. You just can't beat that OLED display. I don't notice any blooming on the TV, the color is great, same with the picture processor. It blows their old Samsung HU8550 out of the water.

I took a gamble without being able to see it in store first, but the quality of the picture is amazing, the way it handles motion is great. The upscaling is good too. Oh and the speakers are really good in "Theater" with extra bass on. You will not find another TV for the price that it's at currently that will compare. Yes the QM7 does look great but I don't think the colors are as accurate.

I have the TV and it's not a drawback. True Game mode is amazing and source-based tone mapping (HGiG) is automatic. With VRR on, I'm not sure if local dimming is totally disabled or if changing the strength of it is disabled.

I got my 55" during Black Friday for $423 and am very happy with it. About the same viewing distance and it feels big (replacing my 2013 42" Panasonic).

I just ordered same from Amazon for $450.00 but I have credit card points etc and 5% cash back for Amazon this quarter so my out of pocket is less than $150.00. I just couldn't pass that up.

The supposed drawback is you can't have local dimming and VRR. I turned one of them off and couldn't tell the difference. I play the PS5 on it and so do my kids every night and day now.

Based on me reading reviews about them it seems the QM7k is only slightly better, but if you watch a lot of sports or low quality content then the upscaling in the W95A is superior. It seems for the price difference it's a worthy trade off.

I got a 55" W95A recently for a little over $400 for our bedroom. Seems like a no brainer and I was hesitant to go TCL despite all the recommendations due to potential quality control and longevity. I love every other Panasonic product I own.

It suffers from the same problem that all Mini-LED panels have, terrible viewing angles.

It's great. Even better IMO with Dolby Vision through Apple TV. Have not seen a better price:performance ratio. With Sony, everyone knows you're paying the "Sony tax" and I just couldn't justify it. X90 to my eye just didn't look great whereas the colors on the Panasonic are spectacular IMO.

The Panasonic is a great TV! I can't imagine that you will have any regrets. Its motion handling for sports is great! The Fire OS is fine although I primarily use an Nvidia Shield Pro for mine other than when I use the antenna for local TV. I bought a brand new Sony A75L OLED at the same time that I bought my Panasonic W95 and I can say that the Panasonic is every bit as good. I was considering returning my Sony just because I was disappointed at how much more expensive it was than the Panasonic.

Got 75 inch for $650 during thanksgiving sales. For that price this is the deal/value of the year. For sports and movie watching no other TV comes close at that price. Yeah Sony Bravia 7 is slightly better but it is 3x the price.

I just got the W95A and I'm super happy with it. I'm a very casual gamer and I just got a PS5 as well. I haven't had any issues and the games I've played on it so far (Elden Ring, RDR2 and Ghost of Tsushima) all look fantastic. I had a Sony X900F prior to this and it's a huge step up for my game play.

I'm concerned with the 65" W95A quality control. I purchased 2 from Costco and had to return both. One had a bent bezel the last one had a cracked screen that wasn't evident until power up. Possible shipping damage but no damage to the packaging. I ended up purchasing a Hisense 65" U7N and I'm pretty happy with it.

Unfortunately the TV arrived with a big crack down the left side of the screen. Guess I'm just gonna hold off on a new tv for now.

Recently bought this off Best Buy and there was a hole punched through side of the box and into the screen upon delivery. Not sure if it's exactly Beach Camera's fault but it was a bummer for sure.

I have an LG E8 Oled (Circa 2018) and a W95A. I don't know how the new OLEDs are, but I have remorse getting W95A over an OLED. When I was buying the 85in W95A was $1000 and B4 was only $1500-1600. I feel bad I did not get the OLED. If $1000 is not an issue, I would say get it. Mini LED is great when compared to old LCD lighting but OLED is a different beast.

I just got one powered up, replacing a Sony XR 6590J for a larger screen. I figured 3 years of tech would provide a similar picture. It does not. The Panasonic seems washed out, the colors don't look right. Makes me not want to use the Sony in my bedroom because it makes the Panasonic look bad. It's not a bad set it's just not as good as the Sony.

I also narrowed it down to w95a, bravia 7 and qn90d. I ended up getting a B7, because w95a seems to be worse for gaming and the Samsung doesn't support Dolby vision. If I didn't have a PS5 I probably would have got the Panasonic.

The only holdback on the W95a for me is that rtings says VRR and dimming zones can't work at same time. Kind of a bummer for gaming.
