Summary

The Samsung DU8000 is a budget-tier Crystal UHD 4K TV that gets a consistently lukewarm reception on Reddit. It's serviceable for casual viewers upgrading from older sets, with solid upscaling, Tizen OS smoothness, and a slim design, but the community is blunt: this is one of Samsung's weakest lineups. Buyers looking to game at 120Hz will run into a hard wall, as the panel tops out at 60Hz despite retailer listings claiming otherwise. The picture quality and built-in audio are decent for the price but trail behind similarly priced alternatives from TCL and LG. Reddit's consensus is that this TV is fine if your expectations are calibrated — just don't buy it expecting a gaming or enthusiast experience.

Pros

  • 4K upscaling works well on standard content, making older shows and streaming look noticeably sharper
  • Tizen OS is fast and intuitive, with all major streaming apps (Netflix, Disney+, Prime) available without friction
  • AirSlim design is genuinely slim for its size, sitting cleanly against walls when mounted
  • Gaming Hub lets casual gamers access cloud gaming services like GeForce Now and xCloud without a console
  • Available in large sizes (up to 85") at entry-level pricing, making it one of the cheaper ways to go big
  • Motion Xcelerator reduces blur in fast-paced content like sports and action films at 60Hz

Cons

  • Panel is 60Hz max — retailers like Walmart and Best Buy have listed it as 120Hz, misleading buyers who expect next-gen gaming performance
  • Built-in speakers struggle to fill larger rooms, sounding compressed and thin at high volumes
  • r/4kTV and r/HTBuyingGuides community routinely lists the DU8000 in 'do not buy' guides alongside other Samsung entry-level models
  • At 85", Reddit users describe it as 'garbage' and 'hot trash' — the larger the size, the worse the value compared to Sony or LG alternatives
  • No HDMI 2.1, limiting gaming input to 4K@60fps with no VRR or ALLM support
  • For the price of the DU8000, the TCL Q750G and LG OLED C3 (on sale) are repeatedly cited as better buys

Retailers Listed It as 120Hz — It's Not

Multiple buyers purchased the DU8000 expecting 120Hz gaming, only to find Samsung's own spec sheet caps it at 60Hz. Walmart and Target listings were the source of the confusion, leaving buyers scrambling for refunds.

Big Screen, Budget Trade-Offs

The DU8000 is one of the cheapest ways to land an 85-inch TV, but Reddit's home theater community is consistent: at that size, the lack of processing power and panel quality makes competing brands a far better use of the money.

Cloud Gaming on a Budget TV Actually Works — With Caveats

Users running GeForce Now and xCloud on the DU8000 report a functional experience, but the 60Hz ceiling and input latency from cloud services combine to make it feel noticeably less responsive than native console gaming.

Where are you getting it is 120Hz? It isn't. If you read the specs it is 60Hz.

From what I'm aware it's a 50/60hz panel so can't do 120hz. Samsung site for the 43du8000 says the same.

Ok I didn't want to check the exact TV model number but I did anyways, that TV is 60hz it can't run 120.

It's garbage. Literally the worst model Samsung makes. Can't buy a good 85" with that budget.

That TV model only supports up to 60 fps for GeForce NOW.

If it were me I'd get some nice tower speakers, a center channel and an AVR to hook up to the Sammy by HDMI. Start at 3.0 and expand as budget and desire are available.

The reason people are going to say don't buy Samsung is due to the processor, quality of build, and the god awful operating system they use.

LCD is a display technology, LED is a lighting technology and display technology. Most modern LCD displays use LED backlights instead of legacy fluorescent.

That's an unfortunate mistake. Samsung's website says it's 60hz. You may be able to get a refund from Target or whatever you bought it.

I can see on the Walmart site it does say the panel is 120hz, but Samsung site states 60hz. If you have just bought it I'd return it and bring up that you've been missold.

I honestly had no idea Sony was the gold standard. I figured Samsung because I never had a bad experience with any of my other TVs but now I'm just wondering if I'm setting a low bar because I've become accustomed to shit quality.

I detest Samsung. Every Samsung product I've used has failed. TV, tablet, refrigerator, stove, etc. Never again.

Samsung entry models are good enough for most people on a budget. They wouldn't sell thousands of them in all of the major retail outlets if it was bad TV.

To access the diagnostic statistics overlay in GeForce Now on a Samsung TV, long-press the Start button on your game controller during a game session to open the GeForce Now menu, then select the Statistics option to toggle it on. The overlay will tell you exactly how many FPS your game is getting.

I love it, people using TVs to play PC games. It's like they come from console and have no clue how limited they've been this whole time.

I just loved the convenience of console — not installing anything or worrying about hardware compatibility. But now I run GeForce out of a mini PC plugged to my TV. No more choosing between quality and performance mode has been a dream come true.

I play on the same Samsung screen, but when I get lag, it's only because of cloud gaming.

I don't have any Xbox but I'm seeing results that say the Series S only runs 1440p at 120. 4K will only run at 60.

Many TVs that are 120hz will only be 120hz on specific inputs. Your TV doesn't appear to be one of them.

I bought this TV with the purpose of running 120 Hz with my new Xbox Series S, but when I switch it to 120 it says the TV can't do it.
