Summary

The Sony BRAVIA 2 II (S20M2) is Sony's most affordable 4K TV in the 2025 lineup, and Reddit makes it clear that's exactly where it belongs. Sentiment is mostly negative, with users consistently pointing out that the Sony name carries far more weight than the actual hardware at this price tier. It runs on an older X1 processor (not the newer XR), lacks local dimming, VRR support, and tops out at a native 60Hz panel — limitations that matter if you care about motion clarity or gaming. That said, owners using it as a bedroom TV or casual daily viewing set report satisfaction, especially for streaming and regular TV watching. The consensus is: the Bravia 2 II is an entry-level TV that happens to cost more than equally-capable or better alternatives, and Sony's brand reputation doesn't make up for what's missing on paper or in practice.

Pros

  • Google TV interface is clean and familiar — works well for streaming-first households using Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and other OTT apps
  • Sony's picture processing (X1 processor) still delivers decent image quality for casual viewing, outperforming some similarly-priced no-name options in everyday use
  • Build quality feels premium for the price point — metal frame construction gives it a more solid feel than comparable budget options
  • Works well as a bedroom or secondary TV for users who just need a reliable, no-frills 4K screen at a modest size (43"–65")
  • Initial backlight bleeding issues reported by some owners resolved on their own after about a week of regular use

Cons

  • No local dimming and no VRR support — a basic LED panel with 60Hz native refresh that can't be divided cleanly by 24fps content, causing motion judder on films
  • Runs on the older X1 processor (a 2015–2019 era chip), resulting in a noticeably slower OS compared to mid-range Sony models using the XR processor
  • TCL C6K and Hisense equivalents offer significantly better picture quality — mini-LED local dimming, higher brightness, better contrast — often at a lower price
  • Bravia 3 is available for roughly $50 more and adds Dolby Vision support, making the Bravia 2 II a hard sell even within Sony's own lineup
  • No 3.5mm headphone jack, and simultaneous dual audio output (speakers + headphones) isn't natively supported — a frustrating omission for users with accessibility needs
  • Black levels and white balance drew criticism from users who compared it directly to TCL and higher-end Sony OLEDs in real-world conditions

Is the Sony Name Worth Paying For Here?

Multiple Reddit threads reach the same conclusion: the Bravia 2 II charges a Sony premium for hardware that doesn't back it up. Owners who switched to TCL or Hisense at the same price consistently report better picture performance, and even within Sony's lineup, the step up to the Bravia 5 is where the brand's real image quality advantage begins.

A Bedroom TV That Knows Its Lane

Reddit owners aren't universally unhappy — several report that the Bravia 2 II works exactly as expected for a low-demand secondary TV. Used for casual streaming in a bedroom or as a parents' living-room set for news and shows, it delivers without drama. The frustration comes when buyers treat it as a flagship-quality purchase at a budget price.

The Headphone Jack Situation Is a Real Problem

One underreported pain point: the Bravia 2 II dropped the 3.5mm audio jack without a clean workaround for simultaneous speaker and headphone output. Users with elderly family members who need headphone audio found Sony's accessibility options lacking — a surprisingly practical failure for a TV marketed as an everyday household set.

Better off with Tcl/hisense in that budget. Sony shines with bravia7/8/9. Honestly think if the budget doesnt allow you for these you can get better quality tv much cheaper.

The Bravia 2 is a piece of shit. The C6k is nothing special, but the best of these two.

Unfortunately Sony's really not competitive at the low end. At that price point if you're not wanting to go TCL/Hisense, LG's base models are a lot cheaper but they're still better than the base model Samsung crystals. The LGs are direct lit versus the Samsung's edge lit which makes them a lot brighter and in general last longer.

The Bravia 2 is ass for the price, it's a basic LED TV with no local dimming, it doesn't come close to the TCL C6K.

If you watch movies its worth upgrading to 3 for dolby vision but if tv shows only 2 is enough.

The Bravia 2 and Bravia 8mk2 are not the same TVs. The mk2 is not entry-level.

FOMO YouTube have a blind test of QM6k/C6K vs the Bravia 9. The results and differences between the 2 models are perhaps not what you'd expect.

At that price point, a TCL has better value. Bravia 2 & 3 are just waste of money.

B2 is a direct-lit panel, the bottom of the barrel kinda tv. It's basic tv that I find to be on the overpriced side of things. If you are looking for a basic tv just for streaming or cable network, there are other brands that will do better for the same cost.

The Bravia 2mkII is an entry level TV with good picture processing and an entry to Sony build quality. For streaming and general TV viewing it's completely serviceable. That said, it's not very bright and I only use these in secondary applications where cost is the most important factor. B5 is a massive step up in color, contrast, clarity, processing, black levels, and brightness.

I own a Sony Bravio 55 which i bought 2021 December. Works perfect and never faced a glitched bug or any performance issue till date running minimum 7-11hours a day 100% based on Wifi. Best Highlight is the speakers which easily beats any speakers in and around 10k budget.

I am looking to buy the same. The model number is different online vs offline and the guy at store told us online one has 100 motionflow whereas offline one has 200 motionflow.

The Q6/7 range is probably your best bet. I got my mother in law a small one from wally world for under $220, and was shocked at the picture quality and overall value for money. I have a Sony A90K at home and going over there doesn't make me feel like I'd rather be at home when watching something with her.

My parents had a 65" Sony Bravia 2 II and recently replaced it with a 75" QM7K. TCL looks so much better IMHO. They have their TV in the living room where it gets a lot of natural light and I noticed that the black and white balances were awful on the Bravia even after optimizing inputs.

I have c6k and to get that picture quality you will have to shell out 1.2-1.5 lakhs in sony or samsung. There are many videos on YouTube in which they have compared c6k to high end TV — watch those videos you will know which one to buy.

May I suggest Sony SRS-LSR200 Wireless Handy TV Speaker? It is pricey yes, but it's perfect for aged people. And as I see, your tv has an optical output.

Bravia 3 with a sound bar. I used Chat GPT or Google Gemini along with some YouTube videos to figure out which settings were best for my current setup. It performs great for a budget TV.

What makes the high end brands special is never found on their low end products, so people might as well go for TCL or Hisense.

I went with a 55" in our bedroom due to size constraints, and it's brilliant. If you have the space and or the cash definitely go with the bigger unit.

Can you tell me if the black issues are very noticeable? I wanna use this tv for watching sports, playing story mode games on my PS5 and watching movies.

I was a die hard Sony fan. I got a 77" Sony Bravia. It's dead now. Lasted 4-5 years. I've read the 2020 models had issues, mine sure did. Like twice a year I'd get the dreaded black screen, flashing red light. Then eventually backlight went out.

Im pretty sure the Bravia 3 is within $50 which should have more brightness and color volume. Definitely a justifiable upgrade IMO.

I have the previous model, the Bravia 8 55', 2024 for about a month and a half. Very pleased with it. Pure black. For movies it's perfect. And with that sound coming from the screen.

Something like a Holdsound BKM500 would work a lot better, hook it up to the TVs optical port and both the TV speakers and headphones will work at the same time.

What TV's would you recommend at current time for 50-60K range? I am getting Sony Bravia the one you mentioned for around 51-52K — should I consider that or look for some other models?

I saw a Bravia 3 in a big box store — it looked dreadful. No decent blacks, way overpriced. Think Bravia 5 is first acceptable, Bravia 7 well received. Get a TCL QM6 or Hisense equiv for much cheaper, it's a mini LED with dimming zones for better dark scenes.
