Summary

The TCL QM751G (QM7) is a 2024 Mini-LED TV that has built a strong reputation as one of the best value propositions in the budget-to-mid-range TV market. Reddit sentiment is overwhelmingly positive, with owners consistently praising its 2400-nit peak brightness and 1500+ local dimming zones at a price point that regularly dips below $500 for the 55-inch. It appeals to a wide audience — from casual streamers to PS5/Xbox gamers — though some users with sensitivity to display flicker or PWM should research its backlight behavior carefully. Long-term owners report high satisfaction even a year in, and the firmware update community (particularly the unofficial V217/V321 OTA updates) has meaningfully improved the out-of-box experience.

Pros

  • Exceptional brightness for the price: hits up to 2400 peak nits with 1500+ local dimming zones — a major step up from the previous Q750G's ~1000 nits and 200+ zones
  • Killer value at sale prices: frequently drops to $497–$500 for 55-inch, with the 65-inch hitting $697, making it the go-to recommendation for anyone with a sub-$700 budget
  • Strong gaming credentials: dedicated gaming port with 4K/120Hz, VRR support, and HDMI 2.1 — PS5 and Xbox Series users report it works great out of the box
  • Built-in 2.1 speaker system with a subwoofer that owners describe as surprisingly capable for a TV, not needing an external soundbar for casual use
  • Active firmware community: unofficial OTA updates (V217, V321) add Filmmaker Mode, local dimming improvements, and better color accuracy — with users reporting noticeable picture quality jumps
  • Available in sizes up to 98 inches, giving buyers flexibility; larger panels also get incrementally more brightness zones

Cons

  • Power supply buzz reported on high brightness settings, particularly on the 98-inch model and at 100% brightness — TCL acknowledged it as abnormal but resolution has been inconsistent
  • Default Rtings-recommended calibration settings produce an overly dull and undersaturated picture in SDR — requires manual tweaking or switching to SmartHDR to look good
  • Viewing angles are mediocre compared to the 2025 QM6K, which uses a QD-VA panel with better off-axis performance — relevant for wider seating arrangements
  • Blooming is noticeable in dark scenes with bright objects, and blacks can appear grey without some ambient light — a known Mini-LED trade-off at this price tier
  • PWM flicker pattern is complex and worth researching for light-sensitive users: Rtings measures it at ~10,000Hz but with lower-frequency components around 76–144Hz that are detectable by some people
  • TCL's customer service and warranty support has received negative feedback: one user with a screen failure after 15 months was denied parts and told to use a repair facility at their own cost

Firmware is the real unlock

The QM751G ships on V113 firmware, which many owners call merely 'decent.' The unofficial V217 and V321 OTA updates add Filmmaker Mode, a peak luminance slider, local dimming medium, and meaningfully better blooming control — transforming how the TV performs. The update community on AVS Forum has essentially become required reading for new owners.

The QM7 beats TVs twice its price — with caveats

Reddit users routinely compare the QM751G favorably to Sony Bravia 7 and LG OLED panels at 2-3x the price, particularly for HDR movies and gaming. But those comparisons come with asterisks: OLED still wins in dark room contrast, the QM8 is noticeably brighter, and the QM6K has better viewing angles. At its sale price though, the QM7 is hard to argue against.

The 98-inch has a buzzing problem nobody warned you about

Multiple 98QM751G owners have reported audible power supply buzz at high brightness levels. TCL support confirmed it's not normal behavior, but replacements have shown the same issue at lower severity. If you're eyeing the 98-inch specifically, this is a known risk that doesn't seem to affect smaller panels nearly as often.

For $497.99 I don't think there's a better tv out there in this price range and even when it is at its regular price of $797 I'm not sure anything that isn't an open box or refurb will be able to match what this tv offers.

Yup after seeing this tv at best buy i can safely agree that it is for sure the best tv available for the price.

As a Canadian, seeing posts like this when it shows pricing always makes me a bit jealous. The 55" Q750G still sells here for $699CAD and has been dipping to $649, while the 55" QM7 is on sale now for $899.

I would recommend QM851G if you can increase your budget a little bit more. It's going for 998$ on Costco right now & they do price matching for a month if prices drops further. Everything better than QM7 but if you don't want to go over $900 in any case QM7 is better.

looks good enough, the thing with minileds is that it changes its behaviour each time you change the dimming type (speed) or the peak brightness.

If you need the additional brightness, QM751G, if not QM6K. If you're more price sensitive, QM751G, if not QM6K. If you can't tolerate poor viewing angles, QM6K, if you can QM751G.

It looks like the choice comes down to your use case. The QM6K has better viewing angles but the QM7 has better brightness.

Motion handling is definitely not better, both are very similar. The main differences are that the QM7 has a much brighter screen and more dimming zones, while the QM6K has wider viewing angles and better out of the box picture.

Q550 is straight up garbage. Get the QM7. It's a good tv.

I am at the checkout with the 5 year geek squad at $160, tax is $40 and TV is $700 so total is $900 for the TV with protection. I think I'm going to do it in the next 5min lol. Thanks. I'm TERRIFIED of playing panel lottery and having to rebox and have them pick it up if I get a bad panel.

Bought Qm7 from the brick, no regrets. Comparable to Q7k at Costco for $898.

The QM751G is a much better TV. I'd recommend saving up $200 more for a QM7K or a Hisense U7QG.

I just got a QM7 and am really happy with it. Everyone talks about how mini led can't come close to oled but to be honest I can't really even tell the difference.

No issues at all. I installed v217 the same day I set up my tv and it took about 15 minutes, most of that time was just waiting for the install. It was super easy and the tv looks so much better.

Was on 237 until recently since I didn't feel the need to update while the TV was performing great. Went up to 313 and I immediately noticed better blooming control and overall color and contrast. Menu felt a bit snappier but that could just be placebo. The qm7 is still holding up very well compared to my bigger qm8k.

I've had my 55QM751 for around three weeks now. It's a great budget tv for around $500. I did not use any settings that rtings.com had used. Just my personal preferences, when I set up the tv.

I had the qm7 and the issue i have is the motion. On my ps5 there was alooot of ghosting issues and motion blur. Ncaa 25 was almost unplayable for me.

If anyone gets one, I'd be interested in your calibration - I followed the rtings one on mine and found it way too dull. Looked better when I upped the saturation a bit.

Agreed. It looks way too warm and dark. Not a fan. Calibration is subjective anyway. Just turn off the post-processing stuff and keep most everything else default and you're good to go.

I have the 98" 98QM751. It has been great for movies on netflix, using my 4k bluray player and the gamemode on utilizing my Series X. Battlefield 2042 is amazing on that large screen. I have had it since Aug. 6 during the first BB sale. I am switching it out though, for another one. This tv has a buzzing sound at 100% brightness.

I just picked one up. I upgraded from a 43" X800D. And wow, this tv is amazing. Colors just pop, panel is great, and the 120hz and 1440p resolution is a nice added bonus!

I saw both in person and the QM7 is better in every respect. Brighter, wider color gamut (more saturated colors), better motion handling to my eye. My 98QM751G does have bad power supply buzz on really bright scenes which seems common. Otherwise I love it.

QM751G is basically C755 here where I live. I have the same TV. Join the telegram group and update to v503. That is the most stable update this TV has ever received. Regarding picture, i am mostly watching everything on movie mode, motion clarity off, brightness max, Local dimming zones to a medium.

Those 2 versions seriously improve color accuracy, add filmmaker mode, a peak luminance setting, and v217 also adds local dimming medium.

Bought mine 15 months ago. Screen is black, yet the sound is functioning. Did not extend 1 year warranty and reached out to TCL to see if they would still cover the repair. I was denied. Customer service says they do not sell or ship parts and that I must go to a repair facility. So I'm out of luck.

I'm on 321 which is the newest I think, I love it, very bright, it looks super realistic, but blooming kinda sucks and a weird thing I found is when watching a movie at night the blacks become grey unless I have some light Source on but other then that it's fantastic.
